Roger Williams is your man for this, or the EMS forum! My understanding is there is not date as yet, seem to be some issues, the Him single (?) I have not heard of other than the CDR exclusives so favoured by Roger Any news Mr Williams? Cheers Jock

Yes and so was the price it went for but that has been mysteriously edited, am I missing something here?? In case its Billy worrrying about it affecting future prices, it was also a totally fu***ed copy from his description, something along the lines of looked vg- and only just played that?? Why would anyone pay for something in that bad nick??? Another one I sold so apologiesif ranting, just bitter! Cheers Jock

Funny thats exactly the offer Billy Mercer, Preston cyberman and handy fast bowler in his day I believe, made to me when I made the same quip to him, I declined his offer of a test in the nets as after my knees stopped knocking I was able to promptly walk off!! It is becoming more popular up here I believe, even taught in some schools, no wonder we no longer produce world champion caber tossers!! Now where did I put my bat and traffic cones........ Yours quiveringly now Jock PS should have said your first post it had me chuckling at my screen in office, will get taken away if do that too often ,.

As far North as you like please, I dont travel as well anymore!!! Interesting post, sadly missed the London renaissance of the 90's although always ventured down the 100 club, Midlands was place in 80's, nothing to beat it (apart from the occassional Scottish flourish obviously ) so maybe the North East is the place now?? I actually think its the size of the venues rather than the location that impacts on upfrontness (new word), its obvious reading on here some guys believe in trying something different regardless of their location, which I love about promoters, however as Stevie says, not a job I envy. Sadly too often now I go somewhere, on the rare occassions I do, because I know a good crowd of friends will be there and therefore have little expectations of the music, last week at Stoke being an example where my expectations were sadly met, but have been pleasantly surprised at the Lifelines, maybe I need to get out more, back to my original plea, as far up north as you like please!!! Yours wistfully Jock

Thanks for help guys, pint on me Frank if we meet, and you hit the nial on the head, I bought decks as am making up lots of cd's (including dreaded house cd's, soulful of course!) and its much easier. Will try out tonight. I am thinking also of creating deck to pc link for sound files also (although will never be as prolific as Dan ) and know the hows and equipment has been discussed here before, however cant find it a moment, can someone direct me to it, failing that does somebody fancy pm'ng me with details, save repeating it all over here again. Many thanks again guys! Cheers Jock

No out and out 60's stomper (remember I dance slow!), great double sider, well worth a play for you more adventurous chappies out there (there are some arent there ). Cheers Jock

Question for Frank and other resident technical consultants, thankfully you dont charge their fees !!, Having played my increasingly rare 7"s for years on dansettes and other such sophisticated equipment thought should invest in something remotely decent, hedging against increasing prices of decent turntables went for decks, simple set up, couple of Stantons and Numark Mixer with 2 active speakers. Works very well, (too well according to my other half ) however have introduced a cdr to the mix ( ), the Phillips cdr from RS, this plays out okay but when recording its at a very low level. Have been advised I need pre amp, but was wondering if you can actually adjust recording volume, either at the cdr stage or at the burning stage (always use PC to burn cds). Any help greatly received, if preamp is only option (have no problem with this but as am suffering equipment overload) can anyone suggest a fairly decent one and where to purchase (richer sounds being my normal choice where possible). Apologies if simple question but when it comes to audio equipment I am a simpleton! Thanks in advance, Mr Murphy if you are again the advisor will buy you a pint at play in week or so as am assuming you will be there! Cheers Jock PS Susbidary question, on Phillips cdr 2 cd components (1) to record the other (2) to play or record from, cannot open the 2nd one at all, not a problem as can play from the first but just wondered if I was doing something stupid.... again!!

Sometimes I Wonder - as my friend, lead singer of the Ascots used to say! Sharon McMann proper Stafford record but didnt even get near the play list! Billy I have a double sided Bill Haley acetate if you want it Cheers Jock

I think you will find it was probably played as much and discussed as much when it was only a tenner, my very good friend Colin Law was lucky enough to get a dozen of these in the 80's, a few which resided with me for a few years, sadly no more, As someone else said just a very special record, one which was definitely around at the right time, however as not out that often I am probably lucky enough not to be suffering from it being overplayed, easy record to fall back on as dj would imagine. Cheers Jock

Until Soul Sams 's flirtation with WWYGWTPO side the DLLGYD side was always the side, big on the London rare groove/funk scene of the 80's, Mr Jay MBE being a champion of it if I remember, it did go for money then (harder on 12")but peanuts now would have thought, get the LP for £2.50 tops ( ), another couple of good dancers on it. Yours Sagely Jock

Actually it was a jokey statement wrapped around 2 real questions that you seem to have ignored, was never a big fan of Scottish jazz funk scene, did more travelling myself including the Goldmine a couple of times, but was always more into the soul side than the jazz funk scene. Hmm assume above was straight out of Micheal Howards campaign leaflet, too old to move to London now, all I ever see when I make one of my regular trips there are drunken Scotsman begging, right puts me off the place. Cheers Jock

Agree with the abive, although must veer back to Ashford & Simpson (1) because they are among my favorite artists and (2) sheer quantity of great songs in their name. Slightly off topic but has anyone ever seen album with A&S singing their Motown compositions, believe it was part of a series of demos done for Motown 25, seen it it in DT box once but missed it, he cant remember it and noone else seems to know about it. Tell me I didnt imagine it?? Cheers Jock

Can only echo above statements, where did it all go, but amazing photos like that bring it all back, some real memory jerkers in there, get a book done Mr Buck, they are the real story of Northern!! Cheers again Jock

Wow some beauties in here, some really thoughtfull choices, if my therapist ever allowed me behind the decks again would choose the following for the under 20gbp section!! Rosco & Barbara - Could This Be Love (Old Town) Almost off key but love it. Jackie Verdell - Are You Ready For This (Decca) Kim Tolliver - Get A Little Soul (Sure Shot) Sensations - Got To Find Myself A New Girl (Way Out) Lee Lamont - Ill Take Love (BackBeat) Chilites - Im So Jealous (Blue Rock) Don Varner - More Power to Ya (Diamond) Bobby Taylor - Blackmail (V.I.P.) Love Peace & Happiness - Strip Me Naked (RCA) Chuck Overton - Is It Possible (Kapp) Universal Mind - Reach Out For Me (Red Coach) sure that will change next week as an awful lot of my records fit the price levels!! Cheers Jock

Is that the same scene that embraced 50s swing music and has now evolved into playing the same 20 records (including Idris Muhammed) at every gig for the last 20 years, yes bits of that scene, including Chris Hill, was amazing at times but some of your claims are a little bit inflated no? Part of the Caister group by chance?? Everyone knows the Scottish jazz funk scene was the only unique scene or so my much older cousin tells me!! Yours doubtingly Jock!

Hi Sid, long time no see, still waiting on the advance promo of the record you and Jamie were going to make! Sid as smart as ever with the above words, so true.Wow, what can I say, in all honesty tears in my eyes reading this, it makes you realise just what good things we had here. In danger of sounding like a wannabee Victor Meldrew again, remember Clouds all nighter, so good that Searling and Dave Withers were playing brand new discoverys here first in 79-8?, Searling even calling one of his cover ups Clouds in tribute to Bruce Hanning, who was at the forefront of Scots being progressive music wise before sadly passing away. And you guys have summarised the rest. For me Glenrothes for atmosphere was unbeatable, the shirtless table dancers, Allanton (aka Shotts or Scotland to the many travellers from down South) for actually leading the way in music when much of the scene had lost its way and the friends that were made there, the Kilt for just having all these trendy West Of Scotland dudes who looked like they should have been in local disco but instead were singing along with every word of Josie Armstead and Sam Dees, As I get older I realise just how good these times were, and some of the best people around, people like Brian, sadly missed as Sid says, I have been saying for ages need to record the Scottish scene with one of the fanzines where is my quill!! Again wow!! Off for a greet now!!

Ooh another good one, not as bad as the areaplone song drone but even worse than Bob and Freds playschool type dirge, good call Mr Ham, now stop slacking in your new job!! Of course as someone else said as I should say IMVHO! Cheers Jock
-
Too right, even worse than Bob and Fred! This is an insult to singers all over the karaoke world! And Gash, you are not alone in the B&F fan club, was always popular North of the Border, I hated it from day one, and wasn't just being difficult (for once)!! Cheers Jock
-
Really?? Two great sides in my eyes. Much more fitting for the title is Bob & Fred absolute rubbish possibly the worst record ever, G Lemons as discussed elsewhere just a seriously bad record, Buck Rogers and many many more, sadly its sometimes easier to think of rare crap than good stuff, or is that just me. Cheers Jock
-
And one that dropped through my door this week for the same price I sold it in late 80's, makes a nice change, especially as with Mr G's seal of approval it will quadruple in this week alone!! Cheers Jock

Bloody hell Gareth, have you sent your cv to Ady for future cd booklets, much more eloquent and well put than most ! Totally agree and reading this made me dip into Mr Manships cheap section (its there if you look for it) and see if any Masqueraders he had that I didnt and for all of £8 bought Say It on AGP and to me this highlights why they are so great, maybe not stunningly original, as Steve says maybe not totally on key (I am too tone deaf to notice this I reckon!) but they have great proper soulful voices that very few singers were blessed enough to have. Just amazing, probably are creeping in as favorite group! Cheers Jock PS Yes I know the whole cd is cheaper than the 45 but I already have cd and there is still no greater feeling to me than listening to genuis on vinyl.
