Has anyone actually seen an "original" vinyl 45 of "Think about it girl"? I thought it was a wind-up by Ian Clark, he "scanned" the label to his own fanzine. Looks like Sebastian's scan is from the fanzine. Wasn't Ian a graphic designer?

What's this like? Is it the same group that recorded on Southern City records, Tennessee?

Did it have Clifford Curry on the flip side? It was reissued by the Spanish Vampi Soul label as part of an SSS Intl. box set. £30 is rip-off since that's what the whole box should cost.

Original is on Volt, it was reissued on Stax back to back with "I like everything about you" by Jimmy Hughes. I once googled the same tune and got the same results, plenty of sauces but very few 45s.

Ady wrote "southern soul with style" on the sleeve notes when it was put on a Kent compilation. On the Goldmine LP compilation, "Let's talk it over" suddenly turns louder at 30 secs or something...

I turned 30 in December. About an hour ago I noticed there's an empty bottle of mineral water on my desk at work and the "Best before" date is the same as my 30th birthday. I kid you not. Seems like there are quite a few people on the scene(s) who were born in the late 70's. Soul music found me in the mid/late 90's when Northern Soul was having one of its peaks.

Finland: Soul Seed (Turku), a monthly night since 2003, mostly rare soul with some funk thrown in. Soul Sides (Helsinki), since 2003 also? Currently bi-monthly, similar music policy as above. ...Also some smaller club nights, some more regular than others. No regular 'Northern' nights at the moment, there was one semi-regular between 2001 and 2007, probably just one-offs from now on.

£60 seems very fair. It must be in demand since I saw another record (Bobby Foster on Select-O-Hits) on a sales list referred to as "The new Ronnie McCain"! Or something along those lines. A great record and one of my favourite "Tighten Up" tunes.

It's now sold. The flip side is "You're My Weakness", a good deep soul tune.

Which version are you talking about? I'd like to see the original but all the DVDs on eBay feature the remake from 2000, I never knew there was a new version until now.

Make sure you define the terms crossover and "modern" soul. Then start talking about modern oldies etc etc. On a more serious note, I can really recommend the book below. It a very good study about the transition from blues to soul, from an athropologist's view. It's quite an easy read though, it's not aimed just for the academics. There's a lot about the civil rights movement also, I know you're interested in it.
