  1. just found lots of old membership cards from many moons ago. anyone shed light to what clubs/venues they're from? TOP DOG SOUL CLUB (dated 82) Soul Time Promomotions (dated 82/83) Stateside soul society (1998) Soul promotions (81) allnighter club of great britain (83) also found a RicTic revue programme in top nick p.s. can you guess the artists on the photo's i've added around the programme? (easy peasy)

Jnr Walker, nottm palais, 1980 Edwin Starr & Chuck Jackson, Nottm Astoria (various name changes) Eddie Holman & Jnr Walker, Peterboro Ric-tic revue, Alfreton (still got programme) Gene Chandler, Hinckley Curtis Mayfield, Hinckley Martha Reeves, Alfreton (i think). she sang 'one way out' with the crowd coz the band didnt know it these stand out above others.

  12. those early days for me were fab! Harry's mini bus , blimey . not seen Martin Chapman for over 25 yrs, he was one of the original mod revivalists around early 79 (along with jock). what about Neil Parker? he was a young soulie during those early days too.... he actually is still a mate who is still around town. shame about sam and 'Jim' , they were kind of peers of ours when we first kicked off. (dont mention the fight at St Ives ). eye opening days/nights indeed

  16. just looked at Dawns pics of the phoenix all-dayer,,......... me thinks i spot wokko hiding . (behind the girl in foreground) looks like him when he had hair edit : the slim lass with blonde hair looks very much like Jacquie Brown

I only did 79 -81 , went as a spotty 17 yr old for the first time for the Christmas niter. loved the place, rain snow , thumbed, got lifts, coach, train ... we got there somehow..... it was a great all nighter. from what i remember, the music was back on track the last couple of years, i dont remember hearing many nasty tunes in the main hall, but i do remember watching from the balcony as 100's of dancers moved in unison below to the sounds of 'anything i can do' by will Collins. now that will stay with me . top venue
  18. only met the guy once (briefly) at the kings hall, stoke in 97 for the Torch 25th anniv nighter. he was like a man posessed on that stage, full of life , especially when he played Williams n Watson.

    i have to agree, i loved mr M's more than the main hall. packed dancefloor so we found room on the threadbare carpet on the balcony. amazing nights in there.

  22. oh me gawd yes. he was a nice guy, i have vivid memories of him dancing close with his wife to 'you dont love me' at a Nottm palais all dayer many many moons ago talking of the Brit, i only ventured a couple of times, the most memorable being a coach trip to wigan in the snow, but thats another story

    Rulessssss , ITS A TRICK . i have just listened to that tune and can honestly say ive not heard it for best part of 30 years !! p.s. after listening to it , there seems no doubt it is indeed mr Virgil Henry, good stuff!

    Tim Tam & the Turn On's - There she comes?? (i think) . how awful was that? i seem to remember it being 'covered up' , Frankie Valli & the Beach boys?! heaven forbid! what about the Harry Betts orch - fantastic plastic machine (or summat like that)? The Jewells - we got togetherness Muriel Day (enough said) The grand piano company - Esperanto Phil Coulter - A good thing going ( i remember asking soul sam to play this at Kirby bellars) and finally........ the Mickey Mouse concerto I remember all of these packing dancefloors in the late 70's

    Tunes i recall vividly were the stalwarts like : you get your kicks, i love music, keep on running. but the most memorable tunes i heard in there were- just can't live my life (Brian Rae stating it was his fave tune, along with 'baby i need your loving') sweet darling let her go
