  1. another amazing track, really enjoying this thread, think my record buying spectrum will have to widen a tad, think the "funkiest" 45 i have is Teacherman- barbara st clair and not heard that played out for years, morcombe pier era, but would that be classed as funk, funky disco, definatley not northern although was played out at niters

Just bought a collection of early punk records to flog on e-bay and in amongst them was a Jerry Butler EP, Green MERCURY label, number 26 018 MCE, made in portugal, its in a picture sleeve and has the tracks, whats the use in breaking up , dont let love hang you up , a brand new me , moody woman....can't seem to find it listed anywhere, looked in all the usual places but nothing, just wondering if anybody would have any info on it, rarity, value ect....thanks in advance phil ps if anybody needs a scan...just ask
  3. top tunage there, and i would love to hear that played out
  4. suppose my first experiance of NS would have been local youth clubs especially cantilever youth club near stockton heath in warrington, i would have been about 15, there was a lad from our school called "wacker" i think , a year older than me and was a fantastic dancer and i used to watch in awe to his spins and backdrops ect, he told me once that he used to go to Wigan Casino, which i hadn't heard about, anyway fast forward 6 months ish, mum and dad get divorced, dad lives in warrington, mum lives in Leigh and i,m on the bus with my mate going to stay at my mums in leigh, halfway there we have to swap buses in culcheth, as we are waiting for the bus to leave 2 girls get on it and come to the back where me and my mate are sat, these 2 girls are off there faces, whizzing there t*ts off and one of them ,JANICE THORPE lives behind my mums house in a bedsit. they were going to janice's to get ready and then onto wigan, me and my mate "Butch" then went to wigan with them, remember first record i heard "larry houston"-lets spend sometime together, fantastic, this was in july 81 and sadly only went another 4 times, but still had such an impact i,ve never been interested in any other music, went to wgan tiffs after casino closed, stafford, rotherham parr hall, morecombe pier ect and nearly 30 years later whenever i hear Larry houston i think back to the exact time place and even how old i was ,15 years and 8 months old
  5. nothing wrong with a bit of funky northern imo, there 's so many different genres of soul that now come under the" Northern soul" umbrella and always have been, there's only so much 4/4 beat that i can take in a night, sometimes ya just gotta shake it down and get loose, know what i mean
  6. great AD, although not seen it yet on telly, fave for me though is "come on train" by don thomas used for a bank or is it a phone company? cant remember now and of course there was addias using dee edwards "why can't there be love" which caused a mild storm last year..

thanks Dave, thats very kind of you, i,m alright with most stuff, was just stuck on who coined the phrase "northern soul", i,ve read that it was Dave Godin in an article in blues and soul, but also read in Neil Rushton's book -NORTHERN SOUL STORIES that it was a chap called Cliff Clifford, anyway i,m gonna put both versions in the essay, just as a bit of balance, thanks again...peace...phil

thanks mate, thats great., the link you sent was very interesting read, i mentioned the blues and soul article because jon manship had one for sale not long back and i,m sure he mentioned it was the issue when dave godin recalls how he termed the phrase " northern soul." thanks for taking the time to reply...atb phil

Hi guys, i,m helping a mate write some essays up for his degree (music production) @ leeds uni, anyway he has to write 10 essays on different genres so he's roped me in to do one for him, so i,m hoping someone could post up a scan or email me a copy of the the actual article from blues and soul when Dave Godin terms the phrase NORTHERN SOUL, or words to that effect, thanks in advance ...phil
  10. if its any help, i paid £315 for my copy, all be it 15 months ago, i have seen it for as much as 400 buts that top end i think, remember picking a copy up from a lad in warrington coming back from morecombe and i paid £15 and a copy of larry houston-lets spend sometime together, sold it on ,along with loads more when my daughter was born in '92, wish i'd kept it now, oooh if only we knew then what we know now, oh well ,c'est la vie....phil ps..i think graig moerer was selling these at $1000 each about 12 months ago, certainly has them on his auction every few months
  11. whats the deal with these custom charges and handling charges, i only ask beacause i,ve bought loads of records from america and never been charged yet...phil
  12. nice one joe, i will let you know if i get it back, i was well gutted and frustrated cos its the first record i,ve ever had gone walkabout, or (pardon the pun) a camel walk ............phil
  13. sent out 12 records on 25th nov, all arrived at destination except 1, all were recorded delivery, after 6 weeks waiting the (non) recipient of the missing record was rightly pissed off so issued refund, so i rang the post office help line because the track and trace facility was saying that it had been returned to sender and i,ve not got it, after about half an hour waitng and going through various, no f**king loads of different menus to speak to someone i was told that because i didn't put my FULL address on the packet for "return to sender" they had sent it to the national returns centre, in BELFAST, all i had forgot to do was put on my post code, now i have to check track and trace every few days for an update, which can take upto 3 weeks for them to scan the barcode into the system and my status will then tell me to ring with my post code, its shite, surely all they have to do is look up my address and post code and when i suggested this (thru gritted teeth) i was told its all computerised and that the staff are to busy, btw, i,m in wigan, it was going to sheffield and now its in belfast, ....phil

had this a few times and one of my fave records, i,ve sold 3 of them in past 12 months averaging 150-160.. https://www.popsike.com/LEE-BRACKETTSAVE-A-FOOLISH-MAN-RUBYLISTEN/120437157124.html but then again i,ve seen it go for more than 200 gbp, the last couple on ebay have been round about the 120 mark...personally i think 150 is about right for this fantastic piece of crossover....phil
