I understand what your saying and i still want the record, if say the guy came back to me in a few days and said the other buyer dropped out and cant pay, do you want this record at your highest bid then i would have proberbly said yes, but to offer me it less than 5 minutes after auction ends, to me says he's had a mate bidding it up for him/her, another example, just after christmas i put in a maximum bid of £81 for a record(valued at 100), it started at 9.99, less than 10 minutes to go and i,m still winning and the price is still 9.99, then a load of bids by the same person takes it to £82, i lose auction, within half an hour i get a 2nd chance offer for £81, i didnt buy it , to me its the princepal of the thing, unless its a mega rarity most records eventually come on the market again and i'd rather wait and buy off someone who i dont thinks taking me for a ride..i sell records myself on ebay and i always start my auctions at a price that i,m happy for them to go for if i only get one bid ... atb phil
-
is it me or do some folk, like me, view 2nd chance offers on ebay with a touch of cynisism, at least half a dozen times this year (and its only end of march) i,ve been bidding on records only to be outbid at last minute and then soon after get a 2nd chance offer, last night prime example, bidding on Jesse Gomez-lace (mankind), 2 minutes before end i get outbid, 5 minutes after auction ends i get a 2 nd chance offer for a buy it now price at my maximum bid($51.50), now i know thats a good price but i also reckon that if i had had put in a bid of say $75 then i would still have been outbid and then got a 2nd chance offer for $75, i know this proberbly happens all the time but it hacks me off and now that all other sellers remain anonymous there's no way of checking other biddres history with the seller (or is there ??), i,m cutting my nose off to spite my face here but sometimes you gotta see it for what it is, someone trying to screw you for a bit of extra cash....grrrrr....rant over

Ian D Interviews Top Compiler Dean Rudland
Garswood replied to Ian Dewhirst's topic in All About the SOUL
nice one Ian, a really good and informative laid back interview, didn't realise that a lot of the comps i,ve got were by Dean, i really enjoyed it ....phil -
dont know about that chalky, i always state whether a record is original, reissue or bootleg, got one on ebay at the moment- turner king (big joe turner) and i fully tell folk its a bootleg, and never had a problem with ebay about listing boots, i think as long as you're upfront about it and people know what they're buying its ok but when you mislead and skirt round the truth or use misleading words it becomes out of order
-
just click the link below, more being added over next few days...cheers phil

another amazing track, really enjoying this thread, think my record buying spectrum will have to widen a tad, think the "funkiest" 45 i have is Teacherman- barbara st clair and not heard that played out for years, morcombe pier era, but would that be classed as funk, funky disco, definatley not northern although was played out at niters

Just bought a collection of early punk records to flog on e-bay and in amongst them was a Jerry Butler EP, Green MERCURY label, number 26 018 MCE, made in portugal, its in a picture sleeve and has the tracks, whats the use in breaking up , dont let love hang you up , a brand new me , moody woman....can't seem to find it listed anywhere, looked in all the usual places but nothing, just wondering if anybody would have any info on it, rarity, value ect....thanks in advance phil ps if anybody needs a scan...just ask

suppose my first experiance of NS would have been local youth clubs especially cantilever youth club near stockton heath in warrington, i would have been about 15, there was a lad from our school called "wacker" i think , a year older than me and was a fantastic dancer and i used to watch in awe to his spins and backdrops ect, he told me once that he used to go to Wigan Casino, which i hadn't heard about, anyway fast forward 6 months ish, mum and dad get divorced, dad lives in warrington, mum lives in Leigh and i,m on the bus with my mate going to stay at my mums in leigh, halfway there we have to swap buses in culcheth, as we are waiting for the bus to leave 2 girls get on it and come to the back where me and my mate are sat, these 2 girls are off there faces, whizzing there t*ts off and one of them ,JANICE THORPE lives behind my mums house in a bedsit. they were going to janice's to get ready and then onto wigan, me and my mate "Butch" then went to wigan with them, remember first record i heard "larry houston"-lets spend sometime together, fantastic, this was in july 81 and sadly only went another 4 times, but still had such an impact i,ve never been interested in any other music, went to wgan tiffs after casino closed, stafford, rotherham parr hall, morecombe pier ect and nearly 30 years later whenever i hear Larry houston i think back to the exact time place and even how old i was ,15 years and 8 months old

nothing wrong with a bit of funky northern imo, there 's so many different genres of soul that now come under the" Northern soul" umbrella and always have been, there's only so much 4/4 beat that i can take in a night, sometimes ya just gotta shake it down and get loose, know what i mean
