  1. Yes, but do you have the copyright, this is the whole point of the argument. And I don't agree with your definition, please tell where you got that information, is it written down in a soul bible somewhere, will it be the old testament or the new?
  2. I guess it's all down to opinions then and how pedantic people want to be. Fantasy records who acquired stax used the stax material solely on a re-issue basis, Concorde Records who acquired Fantasy and therefore Stax, re-activated the Stax label. Concorde then released the 2 tracks in question on a 45 (Albeit on a double A side 45). These 2 tracks had never previously been released on a 45 in america, therefore it must naturally follow that the 2 records in question are not 'boots' or 're-issue's' but authentic american OVO 45's. If Stax themselves had done this in the 1960's no one would be questioning their authenticity, so why are people questioning it now. Or is it because it's the people that own the french version and the LP that are questioning it and are blind to the facts because they don't want to see their versions decrease in value. It smacks of self preservation rather than a balanced view after all the facts have been presented.
  3. I'm happy to play the original american 45 STAX-589008. I would also love a 1960's Alfa Romeo but i'm happy to drive an up to date Alfa car owned by FIAT. After all, even though Fiat have the copyright it's still released under the Alfa label, happy days
  4. No worries mate, I would also suggest that it is not a re-issue i.e. on the Atlantic label, but an official original american Stax issue
  5. Like you say Nige it is 'Proper' and it's an official Stax issue, how pedantic people want to be is up to them, i just wanted to make it clear that it is not a 'boot' A definition of a 'boot' is 'an illegal pressing' i.e the persons or company do not own the copywright, unless someone can tell me different.
  6. FIAT own Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Maserati etc, are these cars all 'boots' To say something is a boot because the original company doesn't own the copywright anymore is pathetic
  7. Dont agree! On what basis is it a boot, for instance, How many labels did Motown own?
  8. In 1977, Fantasy Records acquired the post-1968 Stax catalog, as well as selected pre-1968 recordings. Beginning in 1978, Stax (now owned by Fantasy) began signing new acts and issuing new material, as well as re-issuing previously recorded Stax material. However, by the early 1980s no new material was being issued on the label, and for the next two decades, Stax was strictly a re-issue label. After Concord Records acquired Fantasy in 2004, the Stax label was reactivated, and is today used to issue both the 1968-1975 catalog material and new recordings by current R&B/soul performers. Atlantic Records continues to hold the rights to the vast majority of the 1959-1968 Stax material. STAX-589008 Johnnie Taylor / Otis Redding Blues In The Night / Loving By The Pound (7", Ltd) 2006 According to this information which can easily be googled, this version of 'Blues in the Night' is an official release and I challenge anyone to question it.
  9. Always and always have done stayed till the end, the peeps at the end are the people I really want to be with. Afterwards motorway services or Mcd's somewhere and reflect on the night, especially in summertime.

  14. As I said to you on the night Ian, fantastic set
  15. You have it spot on Nige Theres no need to name and shame, the DJ's that do it know who they are. It's not a case of being a key board warrior either, (like I said earlier it just grates sometimes) and lots of people know me and I always announce which nighters I will be attending.
  16. Very good point It just grates sometimes when you are travelling hundreds of miles on a round trip, paying your money, helping to keep the venue going (and there have been promoters on here stating if peeps don't come through the door, the venue wil close) then you just see the DJ piss off straight after his set, you just wonder sometimes, is it bloody worth it
  17. All we want now is a burning bush and tablets of stone, oh and some bugger shouting thou shalt not
  18. No disrespect to Nige but I think we all know of DJ's, either at Nighter's or Soul Night's who do their spot then Piss off, I find this ignorant and disrespectfull, smacks of take the money and run. If you don't wanna be there then don't go, or is it cos they do the gig for the Kudos of playing a particular nighter or soul night. All I know is that when I see em buggering off, I say good riddance. I never saw Karl Heard bugger off early and there will never be a DJ like him.
  19. Now that would make a good thread
  20. The man for me who consistently week in week out year in year out is Bob Hinsley He can play upfront rare, oldies and modern and when called upon mix all three. A man who has been there done it and got the T shirt.
  21. Not really into the Latin stuff except for Mongo santamaria - We got latin Soul - Columbia First heard it at Middleton nighter and now own it myself
  22. Kev Whats the story with Johnny Taylor - Love on a lease plan - 7s Is the 7s version (Licensed from Groovesville) the official original 45 (I realise it was released on a Groovesville LP) I also know there was a boot done under the pseudonym Johnny Burke The reason I ask, is that I heard it played out at a prestigous nighter last year and I wondered which version the dj would have played Excuse my ignorance on this matter dekka
  23. I agree with the 11th commandment, but try telling that to some people and you get vicious rantings and foul language. I have Gerri Hall - who can I run to - grapevine (a place filler) you may say I but would love the original on Hotline. Needless to say I would never play it out at a serious soul night. I have picked up various boots, reissues, carvers etc along the way but they are just to enjoy at home.
  24. I know mate and i was definitely not having a go at the Lad. I just think it's a shame he didn't complete his full set with OVO. He obviously has a talent and knows how to work a dance floor, for such a young age thats no mean feat
  25. Seems to be making a mockery of chalky's poll, make no wonder he's closed it. Personally I agree with the poll.
