  2. Thought we were all gonna be heading for the trenches again
  3. How can a sound look anything?
  4. So on that premise, our love of Northern Soul started in our youth, So are you saying "Thats where it should stay"
  5. Cos it's a Mod thing, Soulie thing, Rock and Roll thing, Rockabilly thing, It's a Youth culture thing, and it's part of our Youth
  6. Looks to me like all the swirly skirt, baggy trouser pictures are taken by one man, simple enough then, if it's not your thing, avoid where he goes, Personally I don't have a problem with it
  7. I was there and I would love to hear it, infact I was at the very last one when Robbo went home to fetch his records as one of the Dj's didn't turn up. Think there was about 20 of us in, proud to say "I was there"
  8. I'm currently waiting for one of my all time wants, Johnny fingers sold it a few years ago but I missed out Don Gardner -Tighten Up Your Love Bone - Cedric Can't fookin wait
  9. So back to the topic if you are one of the promoters that is just starting out putting a night on and you believe in what you are doing and do a good job look after your customers get the venue right etc. dont let detractors put you off. If your doing the job properly then people will come and keep coming despite how many other nights may be on. As you appear to be a succesful Promoter, could you please expand on what constitutes; a) 'A good job' b) What measures you have in place to make sure your customers are 'looked after' Just interested
  10. 7) Bellenders Top 5 hundred Boot players jumping on the bandwagon and charging people for the "Priviledge"
  11. I know a Northern Soul promoter/DJ who likes to be called Bell End. When I asked how he came upon such a colourful handle (as I believe the trendy people call it), he replied, as though it was obvious, that his real name wasn't familiar to people as he had never really been on the Northern scene. He must have realised that I was struggling to make the connection, because he spelled it out to me as though I was a child. He almost did a diagram: "My name's , you see, are derived from the fact that I want to be a big noise on the Northern Soul scene, I want to be a big name promoter/DJ so I want a name that rings and makes a big noise so I decided on Bell . Because I only have Boots and Re-issues I want to be DJing at the end of the night when I know no one will care because they're all too pissed. And so that's why they call me Bell End, because I is a bit of a gangsta..."
  12. I think that about sums it all up, hope your well Andy atb dekka
  13. Tittle tattle and hearsay At least now i'm aware of why I was made to feel uncomfortable especially as your Ex Wife and her cronies were there. Fret, if you reflect back to the malt shovel you will remember I arrived just after 9 and was warmly greeted by you and others. I danced and had a thoroughly enjoyable time at Your event. I even asked for a request which Kid duly obliged. The next day I put a favourable post on lookbacks for Your event. What i've been accused of just doesn't make sense or add up. But I leave that down to you to make that judgement. Who am I to come between a man and his Ex Wife You are out of order and if I knew then what I know now I would not have offered my hand in friendship. That is my last word and saturday was my last appearance on the Newark soul scene.
  14. This has definitely nothing to do with Sweet Soul, Dougie is one of the good guys. just thought I had better clear that one up.
  15. As a resident DJ I too have suffered these whispers and inuendo and been made to feel a periah. I have supported Pete and promoted Smooth Soul with it's philosphy of OVO as I believe this is the only true path. On saturday night at a local soul night I was welcomed and warmly greeted by the promoter and his DJ's however, I was made to feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome by another local promoter, I found this very distastefull and totally unwaranted. Having said that, for all the people who wish me ill, I wish them well and hope that one day they see the light. S&F dekka
  16. I agree with Julie, anyone using foul and abusive language should be banned from the club until that said person makes a public apology. If steve does not return to the club then many will suffer for the sake of one, that cannot be right
  17. For a club that advertises itself as 'Across the Board Soul & Motown' I for one fail to see why anyone could take issue with what Steve played on the night. Across the board incorporates 60 years of Soul music surely, bizarre !!!
  18. JOHNNY TAYLOR - LOVE ON A LEASE PLAN - GOLDMINE SEVENS PROMO ONLY M- 15 Hi Pete Excuse my ignorance but is this considered ovo cheers dekka
  19. Billy Kennedy "sweet things" Thelma Danny Woods "you had me fooled" Correctone Emanuel Laskey "i'm a peace loving man" Detroit at it's very very finest, fookin toooooones !!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing set mate, love the seventies and the soulfull house stuff, Marc Evans "this thing called love (7" edit) TSOD TUNE If that ain't an eclectic mix of quality I don't know what is All the best dekka
  20. Your right there Nige At least all this has made me realise that legitimately and importantly Morally the only true OVO is the LP, so I bought the LP off Lenny (Big soulman)
  21. I reckon the album is the only true pure OVO how much you want for it mate?
  22. There's plenty of Stax, you can have mine if you want
  23. Thankyou and I agree with everything you say, I know I was being beligerent but I just wanted to make the point and that this record cannot be discriminated against on an OVO policy (in my opinion) be it 2 years or 39 years hindsight, it makes no difference. Atlantic only released the pressing because of it's popularity through being played out from the LP, it's called shrewd business acumen as is with Concorde.
  24. Stax Wanted One Soul Singer released 1967 Atlantic Watermelon man/Blues in the night Released 1969 It just managed to stay in the 60's, therefore it's an official 'ovo', 2 years or 39 years, what is the difference (apart from the obvious) Atlantic pressed and distributed records for Stax, which suited both stax and atlantic financially. Stax owned the copyright and allowed Atlantic legal pressing. As Concorde records (the legal owners) re-activated Stax records and released the afore mentioned 'lepper' record on the Stax label, the question has to be asked, is the Atlantic record a boot?
