  1. Just want to say, what a great thread this has been cheers Len for all your responses
  2. I think as always the 'scene' will find it's own level, smaller clubs playing more specialised variations, big clubs for the masses until the masses have buggered off, then back to finding it's own level again. I for one am optimistic for the future 'scene' and it's ever lasting longevity. Younger generations on the soul and scooter scene which are inextricably linked will keep the music alive
  3. It appears 'Time for Action' is at a place you were 5 1/2 years ago Dean. Have our night every 3 months so not flogging it to death but with our other DJ's playing a variety of genre's it's something myself and all our DJ's are enthusiastic about. Played British Beat out in York a few months ago and was immediately invited to the York alldayer in August.
  4. British beat but not exactly Northern, however, tunes I would play to a Mod crowd
  5. At last someone with the same ideas as me, Cos that's exactly what I play out. That is definitely the direction 'musically' for me. Early 6t's British beat and blue eyed soul will be what I will play at the York alldayer in August and is what I playout at 'Time for Action' in Newark.
  6. Probably because the records you are talking about have never been on a 90's goldmine cd track list, that's why the vociferous ones wont allow them to be played
  7. Bloody hell my worst nightmare, think i'll stay up north
  8. Surely that is the problem with a lot of sub genre's so to speak, a bad experience hearing tunes you didn't like has put you off RnB for good, presumably, however, if you had ever been to the Burnley allnighter on a Friday night you would have heard uptempo RnB of the very highest order which was far from depressing. Mid tempo Northern soul on the other hand depresses me to the point of feel like hanging myself, soulfull my arse, it's sh*te
  9. How you doing Terry, hope your well mate good on ya mate, someone with bolloxs to speak up.
  10. I wonder what the '100% oldies allnighter' DJ's from the midlands have to say about this, No comments from any of them, yet I would think they would add some sort of balance. Because as always these threads seem to always go in the same one sided direction. So come on, all you who DJ at 100% oldies advertised allnighters, whats your opinion. All of you add comments and run these nights yet never involve in these discussions.
  11. It's great to hear it played out, I played it recently at Cream Cracker. Lovely to resurrect tunes from the past, although must admit completely passed me by in 70's and 80's and of course in 67 was far too young from them all except the 80's
  12. I do believe i'm the one who has been championing this record, pleased to see other people enjoying it as much as me
  13. Why not try and listen to Julie Driscoll and the Brian Auger Trinity - save me Aretha and a Nina cover, not sure who did it first, but does that really matter when you hear this British girl belt out this classic, try telling me it's crap, Robert with a u if I knew how to you tube I would
  14. Come on then, smart arse, name me all the covers you know oh, and all the British bands you know and their songs and try not to google too much, or I will smell a rat straight away especially as i'm smelling one right now and by the way, where exactly do you live? cos it may help in determining your credibility
  15. This type of thread has been done before and it still irritates me, there's only Pete knows what he's talking about. Beatles, freddy and the dreamers, tremolos, lulu, dusty, hollies, cilla, hollies, dave clark absolutely pathetic, it appears to me not one of you on here has any idea as to the depth and quality of British Beat. God knows I have tried my best to avoid this pathetic thread, if you wanna know whats out there then open your bloody eyes and do some research cos it ain't all about northern soul on a cd track list, wigan, Stafford whatever
  16. No such thing as a DJ and a Punter anymore, nearly everyone is a DJ and nearly everyone is a punter, (or at least should be).
  17. Best allround allnighter present era, by far was Middleton and it finished at 8 Manus8fa whatever, you missed it
  18. I must say my man, you are talking my language
  19. There's one for sale in discogs for £34
  20. Bloody hell pete, can't you close up the font, it's hurting my eyes
  21. For me it was up to Scarborough on my Lammy for the Rally. Saturday night in the 'soul' room was amazing RnB and full on uptempo 'nighter' music Young mods and us old guys thrashing out the dance floor with not one swirly skirt or patched vest insight Thank god for the Scooter scene.
  22. Trouble with my Lover - is the reason I would never sell mine
  23. Perhaps this is one of the songs the original poster was alluding to The Underdogs - Mo Jo Hanna - VIP (Flip to Loves gone bad) Utube clip does not do this song justice, played on my system at home it is awesome Detroit blue eyed soul, amazing
