  1. I've always struggled hearing lyrics clearly in a lot of records. Someone posted a while ago about the lyrics in the Formations At The Top Of The Stairs and I found it brought a whole new element to the record listening to it while reading the lyrics. Same for this one, its unbelievable really how different the record sounds when you know what the singer is actually singing!
  2. Dear god, when you think things can't get any dafter they do................
  3. Really? Can you point me in the direction of one?
  4. Picked a minter up for £6 about 5 years ago, when no one wanted it - should be a £30 record
  5. Unfortunately the record that stands out in my mind from my first trip to Wigan (march 78) is Muriel Day... I reckon it was played about 4 times that night Ive had nightmares about it ever since...
  6. Bargains indeed, some great records there for a tenner
  7. It's ceased to be underground twice (as mentioned previously) 74/5 with the likes of Pye disco demand, TOTP appearances etc then again in the mid 90s with a massive influx of returnees plus a lot of never were's of the same generation. Factors second time - TV adverts, cd compilations available in your local supermarket, the internet and large promoting organisations who's main concern is getting the maximum number of bodies through the door. For an underground scene, its only been underground for about 40% of its total life approx 20 years out of 50 (65-74 and 79-95) Of course there's still a true underground going to this day that the majority are either unaware of vaguely aware of, but thats another topic...

I agree, both £30 - if you're selling stick em in sales at £80 each..... they'll fit right in
  9. I don't know who's right and who's wrong in all this but as you have may have guessed, by the number of people on FB getting excited at seeing it or disappointed at missing it, this is important to quite a few. Its a part of our scenes history and our own long lost youth and to see it after 40 years is nice. In an ideal world it should be in the public domain and not just for someone who paid money for it
  10. I answered your question in the first reply......
  11. Yes, well no its the sharpees but I know what you mean.......
  12. The motown ones have been done by Richard Searling
  13. They are but that fact has no relevance in todays record buying market......
  14. Yes mate, on Stockwell Gate between the market and Queen St
  15. You know I'm just a young pup - mind you, as of last Friday i'm closer to 60 than 50.......... Is the frank you're on about the one who we got to know at Burnley/Lifeline etc in recent years? He was from Warsop originally and moved to Notts. Robinsons Tailors was where most of our crowd had our trousers made in the late 70s, much better than jeloneks...............
  16. No that was me, didn't make the last cornerhouse but will be at the next one
  17. Was at a party a couple of years ago and Ivor bought me a pint............ I nearly fainted Great photos BTW Derek
  18. Nice memories but they're mostly pressings aren't they? could be a list of stuff I bought at the time - same as most people I knew back then. They were only 85p in Syd Booths in Mansfield though, bargain..
  19. Who's said the scene is dead or dying at this point in time?? The point is whats it going to be like in the future when everyone who's in their 50s & 60s now are either dead or too old to go out. When the wheel, torch and wigan closed, there wasn't a large group of people closer to the end than the beginning their lives. I'll repeat what i said earlier, there might be some small thing going on in 20 years time (maybe less) but not on the scale of today.
  20. Next time you're out and about estimate what percentage of the crowd are young (young being under 40) As time goes on there will possibly be some remnants of a scene left but in 20 years the original generation will be in their 80s (those that are still alive) - anyone who thinks the scene will be anything like its is today is quite frankly living where the cloud cuckoos do.....
  21. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/I-gotta-let-you-go-Jimmy-Ruffin-House-for-sale-Millie-Jackson-Vinyl-/262631350726?hash=item3d260c61c6:g:JJYAAOSwLF1X3ok4
  22. Remember it well - Hollingwood hotel, sometime in the early 90s i think. One of my faves that doesn't get a mention very often is Al Williams - Try Them ......... Detroit brilliance
  23. Look forward to getting it Dave, if its anything like the fanzine it'll be superb
