  4. Just had a pair of leathers re-soled for the first time in years.... nearly died when the cobbler told me how much - £35 And that was the cheapest option, could have been £60 if i'd have wanted a different quality leather. BTW what was this topic about???
  5. Karl Heard played houseparty at Burnley earlier this year in amongst a more up front set - sounded great. Would love to hear what can a man do played out somewhere

  11. Good point, had this very same discussion in the pub at Whitby on Sat afternoon. You used to have to earn your place behind the decks and the respect that goes with it, I've heard a few talk about buying records to "become" a DJ over recent years
  12. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one Russ, we'll have a chat in 20 years and see who was right Agree with a lot of the other points I dont care how much my records end up being worth With regard to relative values, fair do's to an extent but I wouldnt want to pay £15 for a pint if you know what I mean PS hope we're both here in 20 years to settle it
  13. Yeah Russ but the difference is now we're (mostly) seriously knocking on the door of old age, whereas 10, 20 years ago it was along way into the future. Dont want to sound too morbid but the fact of the matter is that in 20 years time alot of us 50+ year olds will be dead. To keep the same demand an equal number of younger people will have to appear from somewhere to keep the number of collectors (and therefore the demand) the same. Do you think this will happen? Back to the original post I agree with a lot of the points made. Looking through boxes at events I often see records with £40/50 on them that you can easily pick up on ebay for £15/20. Impossible I know but I'd love to know what % of records actually sell either at venues or on here/ebay for the asking price.
  14. On Marvel - any info on this anyone? Any demand for it? Mr manship has a copy for sale at £100, anyone know it/ like it? Anyone want a copy at a reasonable price?
  15. The one I bought only took about 4/5 days to get here if I remember right Posted the record today, actual cost was £2.90 for future reference
  16. Cheers Pete

  20. I like it but feel deep down that somehow I shouldn't
  21. The world has definitely gone mad if that sells, think of the records you could buy with that
  22. Sure there will be some sort of interest into the future - maybe the majority outside the UK? But the "scene" as we know it now just wont be there. At the nighters and soul nights I go to (Burnley, Lifeline, Rugby, Tadcaster etc) the majority of people are in their late 40s and upwards. There are some younger ones but a definate minority, so how can anyone think that in 10-20 years time the numbers attending venues wont have shrunk drastically? Any new blood wont be in sufficient numbers to balance the people getting too old and dying away(literally, sad but a fact!) I agree with Dave Abbott, the same scenario will apply to collecting - there will be "some" collectors but nowhere near as many as there are now and consequently prices will have to drop. Get out and enjoy yourself while you still can and anyone who views their collection as an investment should think seriously about selling up
  23. Sold mine over the last few year and always keep an eye on this market, whats funny is that while some particular records always seem to fetch money but others dont sell at all. It seems like the ones on lookalike labels sell better but not always, a good example I saw recently was a Detroit Soul clearly described as not original went for £122 Try selling something like Terrible Tom though and you'd be lucky to get £3 for it! Strange!!
  24. As Ted says - spot on summary
