Boba just to put you on the right track here, in our culture the term "wank" has 2 meanings
1) the act of masturbation (for males)
2) an adjective meaning poor (in the sense of quality) ie shit, crap, useless etc
If you are described as a "wanker" ( also tosser) it is more to do with meaning 2 than meaning 1
Hope that clarifies
So its being released legitimately on a UK label? Which one and by who? The white label "test press" is legal as well then?
I stand corrected and apologise if this is indeed the case
Let me get this straight, are you saying you'd rather pay £50 more for a record to buy it from JM rather than someone else? And buying has never been better - for who ?? People with large bank accounts??
You like paying more for stuff do you? Does this policy also apply to your other financial outgoings? you must have plenty thats all I can think
Good post(s) Tim - keep on ramblin'
Has anyone mentioned Benny Sigler - Who You Gonna Turn To?
The b-side of this ( I Can Give You Love) is pretty good as well, a lot of people I mentioned it to recently hadn't heard it
Great story Tony, thanks for sharing that. Regarding the other records I can just see a story in the local newspaper
"bizarre burglary at local mans house - thieves broke in and left all the valuable goods behind, just taking some old boxes of worthless old records- local police are mystified "
I'm not sure what the capitals are all about, you seem to have taken offence to my questions - I'm not sure why?
Thanks for the reply though it all makes sense now. I was looking at the situation from the perspective of the UK soul scene ie where people started travelling to the US in the early 70s to find records. 1967 seemed unusually early but your post makes this clear now.
Fascinating story, any other input along similar lines would be appreciated by me
Thats even crazier! Sorry I dont know who you are or what your background is, maybe you could tell us more? I would be really interested. Did you know what records you were unearthing or was it pure luck?
I realise this was a defining record for the scene in the Stafford era - I just wondered if i was in a minority in not liking it thats all Garv. If other people love it great, even though I dont like it I appreciate the story surrounding it as well especially the fact that it was dug out in 1967 - amazing!
Fair comment Mark but for me as well, I've always enjoyed watching dancers and part and parcel of that is that some are better than others. Nothing wrong with people who cant dance so well but I really enjoy watching the good ones.
The good ones being in my personal opnion of course cos I think dancing is the same as music - we all have a different opinion on whats good or not.
Not big on acrobatics (only in small doses) interpretation and feeling of the music is the most important
A big memory for me this one when first introduced to the music via local youth club around 74ish. Agree with previous comments, I've not heard it played out much since that time. Why do you think its been generally overlooked by the oldies scene in comparison to similar records of that era?
Always liked it myself
Cecil Washington
Eight Bells Mansfield 1979
Richard Searling
er you might have been there otherwise Mart Baggaley, Bri Beastall, Garrry, Dean, Rob & Chris Marriott and the rest of our lot
More recently Mighty Lovers c/u, Butch, Lifeline, you & Paul
Cant understand why the Persians has never been massive, absolutely top drawer record for me!
Do youself a favour If you dont know it track down a soundbite
Have they latched on to it Ted? Wouldnt have thought it would get much reaction at oldies nights round here
Referring to John Pugh's comment, am I the only one who doesnt like this record? Its another Lady In green for me
Some people think playing original vinyl is a matter of life and death, its much more important than that
(to quote a famous quote - non brits may not get this!)
Isnt this turning into another "nice cheapies" thread?
The original post to me meant records that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, are you all saying that these records do?
True mate, it really makes you think again about what you've been listening to all these years
Like I s aid before there's some turkeys here but a lot of good stuff as well
