  1. I'd just like to categorically state that its not me Another slur on the towns reputation, as if it wasnt already bad enough!
  2. Bobby Womack - What Is This on Minit thinking it was the same as keymen
  3. Martyn, if you got to offending venues a lot of the people there were never there first time around and so dont get it in that sense. I'll bet a fair % at some nights have never done an all nighter. Thats not a dig before anyone shouts me down but the whole scene has been diluted down to accommodate people and increase attendances.
  4. Mine just dropped though the door, looks great! Looking forward to reading it
  5. If you enjoy stopping in and getting old before your time then thats your perogative, after all its a free world, BUT FFS if you can and want to, get out and enjoy yourself while you still can - we'll all be dead soon enough. Back on topic, agree with many of the points raised and was vocal about certain issues in the past. However you're pissing in the wind if you think things can be changed, the many headed monster that is the northern scene has evolved into its present state and there's no going back or altering anything dramatically. There's just too many different people all with their own interpretations of things for any sort of unity, its as simple as that. Just pick the bits you like and enjoy it and ignore the rest (admitedly thats not easy sometimes) thats all you can do
  6. I'm surprised no one from our area has been on here and mentioned the Westfield Folkhouse Youth Club. A place that introduced numerous generations of Mansfield people to the music. Summer holidays 1974 (aged 13) went down to the disco there, not really knowing what to expect and up to that time being into the usual Slade, T Rex & Sweet. I'm not sure if it was the first night that it hit me but it didn't take long. The older lads dancing to this amazing music really gripped me, up till then I'd only seen girls dancing at school discos and other youth clubs. Soon I was hearing talk of Wigan, The Torch and other exciting sounding places, and I was down at Syd Booths spending my pocket money on the latest pressings. One record that really stand out is Johnny Sayles - I Cant get Enough, 37 years on and the music has never been far away, in for the duration
  7. I'll bet you're still scarred by the experience as well? True though, and its only going to get worse as old father time marches on. But thats the way of things and in the long term everything will shrink and deteriorate( ) naturally The only solution is a cull, unless a good old fashioned plague comes along to speed things up
  8. Echo previous comments -Impressive set of plays, must have been a good night
  9. Doesnt anyone know RS to ask him personally about this? It was related recently that another A Dyson spin of the moment (Eddie Daniels) was played in the mid 70s, could there have been confusion between this and the Hopkins Bros? Wouldnt be surprised either way, the amount of records that I thought were latter day plays when in fact they go way back never fails to amaze me
  10. The description "an m's record" has always confused me. During my time at the casino (78/79) I never spent that much time in there but as it was oldies only, wouldn't anything have been played from previous years ie any wheel, torch or early/mid wigan records?

  12. Its a pretty good tune, has it had many plays out? Cant remember ever hearing it (not that that means much)
  13. Had an interesting conversation a while ago with one of the parties involved in this lp, not the previously unnamed person either. He told me he still had a load left that had never been sold.
  14. I agree Aug bank holiday always has the best feel to it for me, especially if the weathers nice! Only one place to be this weekend - Lifeline PS not a hard type so that'll be it
  15. Good question, at that age I know I wouldnt have been seen dead in a place full of 50 somethings Love to see young uns out and about enjoying the music though
  16. Hopefully, for us mere mortals at the bottom of the food chain
  17. dont feel sorry for me barney - i love it
  18. The one in question is the first one Roger posted With 46 drums.. on the flip
  19. Anyone aware of a bootleg copy of this on Back Beat?
  20. True, there's some skeletons in that box of his!
  21. I'm not saying that they dont but from my personal perspective I dont see them at the venues I go to or venues I've gone to over the years. I tell a lie I can remember some at Wigan in 79. I've often seen quotes about how the two are intertwined but for me they're not. Dont really know anyone on the scene who's into scooters either. I'll check the carpark at Lifeline, Burnley, Rugby niters etc next time I go but I dont think I'll see too many
  22. I agree, I think most people selling a collection would stuggle to sell a high percentage doing it individually. obviously depends on the records but if i list 10 records (cheaper end) I'm lucky if I sell one
  23. This hits the nail on the head. For me personally scooters or anything connected with them have had no bearing on the northern scene whatsoever.
