    For me too mate
  2. Kev, I dont think it would. Most people (me included) would be genuinely interested in any tales you could tell from those long gone days. Love reading things from people who were central to the development of the scene, there's a lot of gaps in my knowledge still to fill

I've been surprised once or twice about records being played well before I thought they had so I would never rule anything out. However I'd need some serious proof that this was played before 79, rather than a couple of "so and so said it was' and some hazy recollections to believe this. I was there when Searling started playing it and it blew the scene into orbit, surely someone around at that time would have been aware if it was previously known?

Yes it is mate, not quite as good IMO. Made a mistake with that once upon a time
  5. Alan Rhodes used to run a pub about a mile from where I live, quite a while ago. I didn't know at the time (found out much later) or i would have gone and had a word with him. The strange world of....
  6. Er what? one of the best soul records ever! Still i respect your opinion, Magnetics- Lady In Green for me - what a pile o' shite that is (anyone who likes this feel free to slag me off!)
  7. I agree with Chalky here, the nighters I go to are mainly up tempo dance music. Also the funky edged records that have come to the fore are nothing like James Brown funk to me. I certainly wouldnt enjoy hearing any JB type funk or lots of mid tempo and ballads
  8. Andy the 'up front' scene is not as you imagine it mate. Softer/slower/smoother? No - my taste in music is up tempo 60's soul in the same vein as that which we were brought up on, and thats exactly what I get ( in the most part) at the venues I go to. Have a listen to Chalky's podcasts (theres a link at the bottom of his posts) and listen to the up tempo tunes on the Andy Dyson bit. There are some mid tempo and a couple of 70s tracks as well but listen to Sir joe, Eddie Daniels (actually this was played in 76) Hopkins Brothers, Johnny Praye, Tiaras etc and tell me these records arent as good as the best oldies?
  9. Harry, Betty performed at the Northampton weekender in 2006 along with Pat & Diane Lewis. They sang together as the Adorables and then she did "Say It Isnt So" on her own! Apparently it was the first time she had performed the song since she recorded it as a 16 year old, at first she was a little scared I think and struggled a bit but after about 20 seconds the crowd stared singing and that lifted her. Just been looking for a photo to post up but the only one I've got of her is a bit dark and you cant see her very well. I've got nice pics of me with Pat & Diane cos they came into the bar area after the show but Betty didnt, I think she might have been overwhelmed by it all. Shame I would have loved to have a photo with her
  10. I still do it Pete, usually on my lonesome though Why, I've no idea -its something I grew up doing and couldnt stop if I wanted to! Great podcast, just before I started going

  12. Has the scan disappeared Andy? Cant see anything
  13. Pretty good, better than most similar attempts. One or two minor points I could pick but nowt's perfect Also look forward to Elaines film, that should be good judging by what I've seen so far Merry Xmas
  14. Quite correct, there were quite a few of us
  15. I'll try mate The programme is on at 10pm by the way just checked on bbc website
  16. What time is it on? For or against, you have to watch/listen to these things
  17. What about people who list records without giving a grade? Seen it a few times

Cleethorpes weren't running all nighters in 78/79 were they?
  19. The light you look at the record in is critical IMO, the room where I keep my records has a 3x50w halogen light fitting and under that you see every possible mark. However in the other rooms where there's ordinary light bulbs the record can look completely different, also in bright daylight its different again. Minefield really, as someone who only buys M- whenever possible I'm finding my range of sellers shrinking through experience. I've had (supposedly) M- records that looked like someone had skated over them
  20. Yeah I've been listening to the podcast Chalky. This is one of those records that float around in your head for a bit when you first hear it then one day - bang! It hits you how good it is. What a record!! Any more comments people? Is it not that widely known? Who else has played it out ( I know Karl Heard has)?
  21. Heard this over recent times out and about but was curious about the background on it. Unissued I believe so what are the ones being played? Where, when, who etc any info appreciated
