  1. Joan, I doubt it - its a joy to behold seeing you on the floor, the big smile says it all. You're probably right though some of us think we're still moving like we did 30 years ago, what others see is a different matter though Who cares so long as we're enjoying it? There's too many people in the cemetery who worried about what they looked like on the dance floor
  2. I agree Pete but like Kev says I've seen em go for a ton. Its a crazy game we play and really shouldnt be surprised at anything. Off topic I saw a Velours on one of those blue UK MGM issues go for £56 the other week Unfortunately I never get any of these daft prices when I sell on Ebay
  3. There really ought to be a dislike button! I'll be keeping my copy BTW
  4. Because most people reading this will know that the OOTP label was a bootleg operation. Now the bootleg OOTP label has been bootlegged by other bootleggers, are you with me so far? My comment about them taking legal action was what is known as irony or an attempt at a joke (delete as appropriate) Hence my "misplaced sense of humour" question. On a serious note I'll have a copy of the UK issue off you for £6 (the one with I Cant help Loving You on other side)
  5. Misplaced your sense of humour today Pete?
  6. The orange UK RCA issue fetches around £30 on ebay. Maybe the owner of the original OOTP label could take legal action? He's still knocking about somewhere I think
  7. Some of the pop stuff would have gone down well at Wigan in the pop/stomp years, oh the irony

  9. No, its just because its being built up as the return of Ian Levine with the 100 club spot and everything. Also other people dont build everything up as "this is the best thing ever, better than so called top dj's are playing" blah, blah, blah Most of the stuff I've heard so far is distinctly average with some absolute tripe in there. If he thinks this kind of stuff is going to cut it at the top level alongside Butch he's sadly mistaken. If he just presented them as "this is music I really like have a listen and see what you think" that would be fine but I suppose thats not in his nature, he knows he going to get a reaction and is probably reading this now. As said before not all nighter music in 2012
  10. Thats crossover, no funk in there to my ears though. Funk shoudn't even come into the equation IMO
  11. 60s soul has a definite style to it, 70s soul also has a definite style to it - the two are completely different and fairly easy to identify one from the other. Records from say 68-72 can have elements of both decades in them and are less easy to define. In general thats all there is to it really, I dont know why people have to complicate thing with loads of different theories as to what crossover is
  12. Looking at the interest in this thread already I reckon Ady's pulled off a PR master stroke to get the 100 club off to a flyer in 2012. Hope it doesnt turn into the usual slagfest for once though
  13. It'll be an interesting night thats for sure, wish I could be there. The un-retired bit is good news also.

  15. Me too, not that I don't like Jerry Williams
  16. For me too mate
  17. Kev, I dont think it would. Most people (me included) would be genuinely interested in any tales you could tell from those long gone days. Love reading things from people who were central to the development of the scene, there's a lot of gaps in my knowledge still to fill
  18. I've been surprised once or twice about records being played well before I thought they had so I would never rule anything out. However I'd need some serious proof that this was played before 79, rather than a couple of "so and so said it was' and some hazy recollections to believe this. I was there when Searling started playing it and it blew the scene into orbit, surely someone around at that time would have been aware if it was previously known?
  19. Yes it is mate, not quite as good IMO. Made a mistake with that once upon a time
  20. Alan Rhodes used to run a pub about a mile from where I live, quite a while ago. I didn't know at the time (found out much later) or i would have gone and had a word with him. The strange world of....
  21. Er what? one of the best soul records ever! Still i respect your opinion, Magnetics- Lady In Green for me - what a pile o' shite that is (anyone who likes this feel free to slag me off!)
  22. I agree with Chalky here, the nighters I go to are mainly up tempo dance music. Also the funky edged records that have come to the fore are nothing like James Brown funk to me. I certainly wouldnt enjoy hearing any JB type funk or lots of mid tempo and ballads
  23. Andy the 'up front' scene is not as you imagine it mate. Softer/slower/smoother? No - my taste in music is up tempo 60's soul in the same vein as that which we were brought up on, and thats exactly what I get ( in the most part) at the venues I go to. Have a listen to Chalky's podcasts (theres a link at the bottom of his posts) and listen to the up tempo tunes on the Andy Dyson bit. There are some mid tempo and a couple of 70s tracks as well but listen to Sir joe, Eddie Daniels (actually this was played in 76) Hopkins Brothers, Johnny Praye, Tiaras etc and tell me these records arent as good as the best oldies?
