  1. Well there is that, plus he got me backstage to meet Don Gardner et al
  2. And he's a very nice chap as well!
  3. Been listening to some 70s cds in the car lately for a change (mainly a 60s person) I started to wonder why the trend towards longer record times came about, what were the writers thinking and why change? Irrespective of your taste and whether you like these records or not some of them go on for so long and are so repetitive, doesn't it do your head in after a bit? So what I'm asking really is even if you like the 70s records doesn't it get on your nerves after 4 mins or so? Give me 2mins 30secs, wham bang thank you ma'am any time! Disclaimer:- this thread is not intended as another 60s v 70s debate, any move in that direction will be due to individual posters and the thread starter will accept no responsibility for any such circumstances arisng
  4. After all the hype it didn't reach reserve

  6. Looking for original M- copies of International GTO's - I Love My Baby & James Bounty - Prove Yourself a Lady Must be M- with no marks and clean labels or I'm not bothered. Both these are for sale on major dealers websites so I'm looking for competitive prices if anyone has em to sell. Cheers
  7. Crikey its a rumour factory! Anyone watch celebrity juice? This reminds me of where they have to sit on the toilet and pass on a message that they cant actually hear due to them wearing headphones (if you've seen it you'll know what I mean)
  8. Didnt you sell this via John Manships auction ? The one with a lot of hype leading up to it?
  9. I've got em both but if I had to pick one it would definitely be Manship's because of the label scans for bootleg identification
  10. Whats worth more than a kidney that I can manage without? I agree Harry - all time great, wish I could afford one

  12. No reason for anything to turn unpleasant Kev, were you involved in working with any of these reissues? I'm genuinely interested in any info you've got about the era, as a young un it all went over my head at the time
  13. On the recent thread that Brian Phillips started about one of his sales lists from Jan 74 I noticed he put a comment "just going big" about The Persians - I Cant Take it Anymore. Did it go big? I never heard it way back then although 74 was my youth club time . Any of you who were there remember it getting plays, even for a short time? It certainly (in my experience) doesnt get a look in at oldies events that hammer to death the popular records from that time (Why not?) Great record IMO
  14. There were quite a lot of records reissued legally in the 70s as we all know, the phrase "to satisfy demand from the northern scene" is used frequently. Examples are the small 45 okeh, columbia special products etc etc I'd like to know how the situation came about for this to happen and how the record companies knew about this demand. What I'm trying to say is that bootlegs were done by people close to the scene who knew there was demand and there was money to made. Who would have approached Okeh for example and persuaded them that reissuing a record that was originally a flop 6/7/8 years previously would be a good idea? Surely these big companies would have no idea of demand in a tiny section of the UK record market? Are these releases as legitimate as we have been led to believe?
  15. Click on Chalky's link, podcasts, scroll down to Chalky's choice - track 23
  16. Good question but I'm not sure we'll ever find the answer. No one would admit to buying em on here would they?
  17. Christ Swifty dont encourage him!!
  18. You mean Lasoo surely Steve Got me at it now
  19. John Manship has the blue copy at £25 in his price guide, this would suggest a legal reissue as he wouldnt list it if he considered it a bootleg, he also states there is a maroon coloured bootleg. However Tim Browns guide states that there is a maroon and a blue bootleg. So who is right? How does anyone know for certain in these situations?
  20. I cant believe some of the stuff I'm reading on here, you disenters really need to get your ears washed out How is this record in any way country & western like? Its pure northern soul dance floor magic!! Sounds as good now as when RS played it in 78/9 Its nearly as bad as someone describing the Hopkins Brothers as funk
  21. Great stuff Brian, thanks for posting Got a few old lists myself but not this far back, this is about 6 months before I first heard of northern soul so its interesting to see what was available then!
  22. Nice!! Great record that stands alongside Cecil Washington (wanted to say Joe Matthews) from the days when I was in my prime!!! Sorry Joan, your taste is top notch except on this one
  23. Begat, there's a word I haven't seen much since I last read the bible Might adopt it as word of the month!
  24. Doesn't Ritchie Pitts live in sheffield?
  25. Crikey is this your own personal thread?
