  1. All this confusion
  2. But Kev you yourself said there's a sizeable proportion of the jean genie crowd (great tag BTW) at certain venues now. So if they respond to certain records which then become "top 500" records then "outsiders" are influencing things on our scene which cant be right. This trend was noticeable years ago and while i'm not against anyone coming in, it should have been a case of "this is how it is, if you want to come along fine" instead of diluting things to keep them happy!
  3. Thankfully not where we go kev Steve in Mansfield ( 4th most backward looking soul town)
  4. No mention of a bootlegged issue in either guide, only demos. I know originals of "Too Late" exist with scratched in matrix as well as stamped so I suspect its original
  5. £30 my arse, theres a seller on ebay (teddy pickles) who lists these on a regular basis - 0.99p start price If you look at his history they usually sell for around £2 A prime example of John Manships world v the real world IMO There's one for sale today by the way for anyone who wants to save themselves £28
  6. RIP Pete, a lovely bloke - gutted
  7. Doh, dont worry mate we wont take the piss
  8. Met Dave a few times but havent seen him for a few years, wasn't afraid to voice his opinions on here! Nice bloke and another one gone too soon - RIP
  9. What was his username on here?
  10. I think the same every time I go on there Steve. Its worse when there's a free listing weekend, everyone tries to offload all the crap records they've got lying around and ebay is flooded with pap!
  11. Pete it was still done in 78/9 when I went, slightly different in style but was still a part of Wigan
  12. Andy you've got a lot of catching up to do! You're right though, 78/79 was my time as well and generally speaking a lot of records played then don't get an airing nowadays. The reasons for this are complicated, just do a search for "overplayed oldies" and you will find loads of threads that debate this very subject on here. So much so that I'm off before I get strung up for starting it off again (contentious subject) Happy catching up
  13. Charades - Key To My Happiness International GTOs - I Love My Baby Yvonne Baker - You Didn't Say a Word Dena Barnes - If You Ever Walked Out Of My Life Lou Ragland - I Travel Alone Lou Pride - I'm Comun home Van Dykes - Save My Love For A Rainy Day Incredibles - Theres Nothing Else To say Tempos - Countdown Hear I Come Soul Twins - Quick Change artist
  14. Cant you send it in code, have you got an enigma machine?
  15. Thats a piece of cake to understand Winnie compared to some of the issues on the soul scene I find particle physics more of a challenge myself
  16. Not rocket science Len so why is it so hard to find a venue that plays that perfect mix? One of life's great mysteries
  17. Put me down, great idea
  18. This can only be done by using part of the matrix or a stamp as reference ignoring the label surely? Thats how its put in JMs book e.g. if you hold the stamp at 6 0'clock x will be at 3 and y will be at 9 o'clock Just realised someones already said that but i've typed it so...
  19. Sean, that the best written post I've read for a long time and sums the situation up perfectly. Something I'd like to add is that on the "nostalgia" scene there is a sizeable number of people who aren't being nostalgic. What I mean is that there are people who were never there in the 70s, they've stumbled across the scene in recent years either via going with a partner or mates or in some other way. Before the plates start being thrown, I'm not saying theres anything wrong with people who weren't there. BUT these people don't and cant be expected to know the ins and outs of the scene, how things were or how they should be and any arguments such as this would mean absolutely nothing to them! To give you an example theres a night local to me which is actually on tonight, very successful with over 300 in every month. I don't go very often but the last time I went I counted in my immediate vicinity around 20 people who I know, out of this 20 maybe 12 or 13 had no history on the northern scene and had probably never been to a soul night 5 years ago. Its basically an over 50s night out for a fair chunk of the crowd and I daresay the music doesn't mean an awful lot to them. Dont get me wrong I'm not saying everyone is like this or that theres anything wrong with over 50s going out and enjoying themselves but this type of pesrson has swelled the numbers considerably. All this adds to the pressure to dilute or dumb things down to please the maximum number of people, keep everyone dancing and coming back next month (Mr DJ - whatever you do dont play a record that they dont know) to the detriment of the whole thing.
  20. You either get it or you don't
  21. Would the person who suggested the taking off of the said record care to step up and put their case forward?
  22. Frank Lyndon great memories but wouldnt want to hear it played out on a regular basis!
  23. I was going to say that but couldn't be arsed
