  1. 1) It might seem like that but I dont think its quite true. The main thing about this whole issue is that a lot of people rediscovered the scene after a 25 year gap of literally not being aware the the thing still existed. They went to Wigan etc in say 1974/5/6 and then forgot about it completely. When they returned they set about recreating an identical copy of what they had experienced years before without understanding/appreciating/learning about what had happened in the years they were away. The people who kept the scene alive in the 80/90s quite understandably IMO resent this. 2) Most people on the other side of the argument still love all the classic oldies from the 70s, they dont think "their" tunes are better but just as good and equally deserving of merit/reverence 3) There you go about tempo/danceability again Ask the all nighter goers of the 80/90s how much dancing was done (other people are better qualified than me to comment on this)
  2. Does the fact that it's Jack Ashford copy come into play for some Phil? BTW who discovered this/ first played it /where / when etc? My memory is failing by the day - late 70s?
  3. hilarious
  4. My esteemed companions might be nudging that way but I'm most certainly not I'll have you know (Cheeky tw@t)
  5. Plus Home is Where the Heart I, I'm so happy, Love Is A Serious Business etc etc
  6. We're not that young mate I assure you Unless 52 is young to you
  7. Care to give us any examples of that? Which venues, what records arent proper northern soul? I'm not talking here about venues that play crossover, modern or "across the board" (f***ing hate that term) I'm talking about venues such as Burnley, Lifeline, 100 club, Empty Bottles and other similar places that play dance music true to the original ethos of the scene I dont know if you ever frequent such places but if you did you wouldnt be able to tell me that what Butch, Andy Dyson, Mick H and lots of others play isnt proper northern soul
  8. Can we get rid of this misconception thats trotted out on here time & time again - not all places that dont play top 500 oldies play mid tempo "tosh" as you call it - try the burnley all nighter - up tempo dance music all night The butch tape from 91 (whilst top quality soul) is not necessarily indicative of what he plays out at Lifeline or the 100 club which is good fantastic dance music How many records discovered in the 80s/90s and even beyond do you know and have listened to out?? Too many people condemn the rare/underplayed scene without actually knowing what they're talking about IMO its proper f***ing northern soul!!!!! No offence
  9. No it wasnt mate, I distinctly remember having to get up and down to change channels and turn the f***ing sound up & down - what a ball ache
  10. Damn him, bringing the name into disrepute!!
  11. I'm always suspicious of records like this with one bid on a fairly high start price, I bet he got someone to bid on it to "encourage" others to
  12. Chris is Rob's older brother, had a top collection at one time - known as a detroit collector
  13. There's quite a few on there I still like, Idle Few, Frank Lyndon, 7 Dwarfs & Charlie Gracie Mick H played French Fries at a local oldie do a few weeks ago, sounded pretty good after about 8 pints
  14. People were doing that high kick thing before 1980, cant think that any northern moves would have been borrowed from disco dancing but who knows?
  15. The "Butch's playing it I want one" = rise in price, is a well known phenomenon but if this causes a rise its taking things to a new level surely? " Butch played this 22years ago on radio at the yarmouth weekender" = rise in price??
  16. I've got a soft spot for it Pete from a memories perspective, was just making a tongue in cheek point about playing it out on CSP
  17. People used to get sent to the colonies for lesser crimes
  18. What about Snoopy Dean - Shake & Bump has that ever been played anywhere since Blackpool mecca? I reckon theres loads of mecca & cleethorpes records that havent been played for 30+ years
  19. In demand as they say!
  20. Where/who was that so I can avoid it/him?
  21. Yeah they're the same everywhere
  22. Most wouldnt be bothered if it was put on a plate for em. If these records were played at my local oldies nights I guarantee there would be a mass walk out and much wailing and gnashing of teeth As has been said, its their loss
  23. rock & roll? lack of soul? Peoples different takes/perspectives on things like this never fails to amaze me
