  1. Keyboard to keyboard
  2. Yes mate but that R&B had a totally different meaning to the R&B which is a subset/spin off from northern soul which has only been used relatively recently
  3. This is like two people in a room arguing over fruit, one is trying to convince the other that apples are oranges Ray Agee, The Invitations - Watch Out Little Girl & The Constellations - I Didn't Know How just aren't R&B in my book
  4. I'd rather not hear them thanks
  5. Yes Yes No No…………….. Thats where these discussions go pear shaped for me, everybody's definitions and perceptions are different
  6. Can I just clarify this - are you saying The Constellations - I Didn't KNow How To is at the soulful end of R&B?
  7. Has everyone been drinking tonight?
  8. Abso-frickin-lutely
  9. Picked up a Monorays for a fraction of that only a few years ago, its like some sort of parallel universe……………………...
  10. Jesus, another one gone! Remember Mona from my earliest days at Notts Palais all dayers 75/76 time, as a young kid he was one of the older lads we used to look up to. Haven't seen him for a couple of years, but knew he wasn't in the best of health. Sad times….. RIP mate
  11. Thanks for all the input. So this is another case of a record being around for a few years before becoming known to the majority of people. Maybe the guy who claimed it was played at Va Va was right? Cant discount it completely but I don't think Ian Levine DJ'd there did he?
  12. If you haven't been to a venue for so long you'll enjoy it and you won't look too out of place dressed like that, plenty still do

  14. Not bad Terry
  15. No claims for Va Va in 73 then?
  16. Phil 99% of records bought over the last 45+ years relating to the northern scene haven't been bought to DJ with surely you know that? Most have been bought for the purpose of collecting and playing at home, whats wrong with that?
  17. You're on a slippery slope now mate, trust me!
  18. Not heard at East Midlands oldies events very often if at all. Strange when they pride themselves on playing 100 mph oldies and they play most of the other big tunes from the same period as ann perry
  19. The point was made previously that buying records has always been expensive and that looking back in time you have to consider what earnings were and what money was worth compared to now. I was saying the same as you, you can't just use the figures comparing what money is worth between two specific dates to compare what a records value is on the same dates. If it worked like that you could buy a copy of the Invitations I quoted for less than a tenner which you quite obviously can't on todays market (unless you are extremely lucky)
  20. Exactly, the figures put up by Mikey are interesting but theres lots of other factors to be thrown in. Ive got some old Pat Brady lists from the early 90s and you could have bought an Invitations - Watch Out Little Girl on MGM for £5 which is £8.67 in todays money according to those figures. How much would you have to pay for one now? £150/200 ?
  21. Thats roughly what I would have said, the reason I'm asking is I just heard someone on an internet radio show claim it was played at Va Va's. Late 70s was my prime time and JB was big then, would have been surprised to find it was played earlier but stranger things have been known
  22. When, where & by whom?
