  1. You're obviously talking about us…….
  2. Certainly was mate - brilliant!!
  3. What you said was "every DJ worth his salt should be striving to fill the dance floor" What that results in, in my experience, is the said DJ's playing the same, safe records because they're afraid that something outside that bracket will clear the floor. "‹Thats the connection I was making, don't you think thats true?
  4. Sar Cazam & The P-Takers on Hu-Ma…….
  5. Dance floors are for dancing on and its a dance based scene, there's nothing better than a packed floor and an atmosphere you can cut with a knife - agreed. BUT and here's the big but - nights out AREN'T for going out week after week, month after month and year after year to hear the SAME hammered to death records which is what happens in general. If you've got to do this to keep the floor full, count me out - its enough to bore you to death! I know the thread isn't exactly about this but this issue is at the heart of the debate! Only my humble opinion of course
  6. Ever heard of irony?
  7. Well fancy playing Court Davis when the crowd probably wanted Wigan oldies….
  8. Some of you need to read the initial post and get a grip on what its about "records that might have been monsters on the scene" being the important bit Jesus…...
  9. https://www.nottinghampost.com/Singers-dancers-needed-Northern-Soul-Wizard-Oz/story-26062648-detail/story.html#c2HbPBrBUIA8pTQ8.01

  11. Great stuff, looking forward to the Saturday afternoon session at Prestatyn
  12. Exactly, if you haven't got the records don't pretend to be a DJ………. end of
  13. I agree completely Gav, no rules being broken but its just plain greed in my eyes
  14. Dave, I have spoken to people in recent times who had honestly never heard of it……. unbelievable really
  15. Look forward to reading, sounds great
  16. If you put a salvadors on now, its guaranteed to make around the £100 mark I'd say (i'm talking about the 70s pressing)
  17. My first reaction was that it was big in mansfield in 74 when i started, every youth club played northern (alongside more mainstream stuff I should add) and there was a big contingent of older lads (& lasses) that went to the torch and early wigan. However at school there were 90 lads in my year and I can only think of two of us who were into it properly although most of the others would have known what it was and been exposed to it. Later when starting work and attending tech etc, again a small number of people in the groups I was in. By the time I started nighters in 78 the Mansfield crowd had diminished considerably, there were probably around 15-20 regular attendees. So to answer the original question - its difficult to quantify, it seemed big in my little world at the time but maybe not in the grand scheme of things…..
  18. Just skip straight past it Jim, thats what i do….
  19. Sky+ is the best invention ever… well nearly
  20. My record buying started off with all the usual pressings and disco demands from Syd Booths in Mansfield around 74/5 but my first proper original was The Parliaments - Don't Be Sore At Me…………….. although for the life of me i can't remember where / who i bought it from………..
  21. Nostalgia? You couldn't be wider of the mark if you tried, I'll reiterate what I said I'm my first post - you either get it or you don't. I'm outta here, going round and round in circles is pointless
  22. Old news mate theres already been a thread
  23. I'm the last person to stop anyone from enjoying themselves. Anyone can go out and do whatever they want for me, life too short & all that. However if you had to witness something that you have been a part of and loved for over 40 years being bastardised, commercialised and generally changed beyond recognition from what it was and should be about, just to accommodate newcomers, you might feel differently. You either get it or you don't. If you don't - don't try to change it, find your own thing to do
  24. Theres no doubt that will be technically possible at some point in the future, whether it'll happen before we all go up to the great all nighter in the sky is another story... Fingers crossed, I'd love to be on a packed Casino dance floor again, with a crowd who know how to clap properly…..
  25. Dunno but I've definitely done this before without any problems so somethings changed. Anyway I got round it but its an unnecessary hassle I reckon
