Sorry if I'm a bit out of place... I'm not a big fan of reggae, ska or rocksteady but I really like Jackie Mittoo and all his first tunes on studio one...  maybe it's for the way he plays his organ,,, I couldn't find nothing similar so far... how would you label the stuff he plays? rocksteady?

I unusually got a copy for very little money (roughly 20£) few years ago... I'm wondering now if mine is a boot although the description said it was an original...

At least with The Masqueraders you've got half a dozen records to fall back on, How, Thats The Same Thing, actually you only need those two, both utterly perfect Northern Soul records.

this is one of the few tunes that makes me emotional

Was there much in the way of a 'soul scene' in the 1970's or was it just as someone else suggested a general disco scene that happened to play some of the same records we did?  

I don't really know if there was a real soul scene in the 70's but from the 80ies on modern/disco/soulful house has become very popular in nighters...  I may investigate why all that music was so much produced here....

What do you mean, 'unfortunately' 

 well I'm not a fan of that stuff and i often happened to have travelled all along the country to find myself in some nights that were supposed to be northern soul but, in fact, hours of disco music were played..

unfortunately this disco stuff seems to be going strong even now...

Bend it. If it snaps, it's styrene. If it doesn't snap, it's vinyl. Simples...

 

Alternatively, hold the record with thumb and index finger by the centre hole and rim, lightly flick the record with a finger nail and listen to the sound. Styrene sounds tinny, vinyl sounds dull. Play the record - if it starts with a short hiss, chances are it's styrene. Styrene is easily discoloured by solvent so be careful when cleaning records with lighter fluid in case you accidentally discover it's not vinyl. Err, that's all I can think of...

 So even if it's ano original it's dull? 

Mine should be a vynil white demo (no star as the boot). And it sounds great... bought it at the market prices from a reliable and well known seller so it sould be alright.

I'm away at the moment. I'll post a pic as soon as i can.

Drop it on a hard concrete floor. If is shatters into pieces then it's styrene if not it's vinyl

if I descover that mine is a boot I'm gonna drop myself out of the window.... i live on the 6th floor....

Sorry for the silly question, but how can you can be sure one is vinyl and the other styrene?
