  1. Saw the Showstoppers live at a friends 18th Birthday Party, which was a coach trip to Park Hall at Charnock Richard in Lancs. Must of been 1979, I knew Houseparty, and seem to remember them playing loads of covers, but it was a good nite and they went down well. Anyone else see 'em ?
  2. Oops, should of searched first, v sorry, and thans for the link Simon. Best Dave.
  3. I was given this record back in the 70's by an old mate. I reckon it's time I found out if it's pedigree I've always thought it to be a boot, that's probably why he gave it me (cynical I know), just that JM's guide isn't too clear on it. Mine has the letters LW then B.F and an A scratched in the run outs, but anyone could of done them. It has a dip toward the center but not a sharp dip. I wouldn't call the run out pitted though but I wouldn't describe the vinyl in general as perfect either. Could somebody help please Best Dave.

  5. Impact 1018 WDJ The Sheppards/Poor Man's Thing/When Johnny Comes Marching Home VG+ b I can add the above to the list, for anyone trying to collect the series. I'd take £20 or a northern trade. Sorry to crash your thread tastytunes, felt it was apt. Briles.
  6. Cheers Baz, wasn't sure if it was more for Vinyl, and thought more would see it where it was. Good response, thanks and the ticket has now been reserved. Dave B.

Find the original Brunswick copy on Gemm.com for little money. I'm gonna miss you/Hope we have.
  9. If I had to play a record for a non-soulie to define northern soul to them it would be - Luther Ingram - Exus Trek firstly, then the flip. For me this record could be catagorised as nothing other than Northern Soul. I thinks that's what this thread is getting at
  10. I reckon that's the mgm demo, which I think looks great, there is a wolfie one too, see attachments, also looks good.
  11. I certainly enjoyed your writing Neil, that Marstons must be fantastic stuff !!! Thanks to everyone for their input. My personal faves are Okeh and RCA, some excellent stuff on them, don't think anyone mentioned Swan, so I have. Best Dave.
  12. Personally not a big fan of the stuff on this label, but Revilot is a quality label imo. Thanks for the opinions, keep 'em coming. Dave.
  13. Just want opinions of which labels are considered the most important from the Northern scene as it has developed, as I said a top 5 or 10 maybe. I am talking about labels that have supplied the greatest percentage of top quality, so not just one-off small companies which may a 100 percent record, I'll suggest the should of pressed at least 20 soul singles to qualify

I'd be interested to hear the rumour, but don't imagine I will
  15. Agree Craig well worth a listen. Dave.
  16. I'm past remembering the dates etc, but maybe Dave Moore may be able to help on this, I believe he used to arrange Burnley coaches to the oldies nights, and can remember Dave and other Soulies coming out of the Concorde and crossing the road to the Bus station. After that it was an adrenaline blurr - I think.

I like the 'Herbert Hunter - Love has taken over me' track. I beleive it's on a Kent CD, and soundfile can be found on Soul Club. I do agree with earlier comments about the Temptations track though, probably the best IMO.
  20. /index.p...t&event_id=1873 Already done by Kev Roberts in the Midlands. A bit of something for all tastes there. Going for the first time tomorrow.

In my experience, the cardboard sleeves do damage vinyl, some of my records I've had in them 30 years, and they have loads of surface scuffs, so definitely make sure there's a paper sleeve inside to protect.
  24. Paul I come from the same town as you, and think it's a fair question you ask. My contribution to this is to say that during the 70's footy violence, and inter town violence from my own experience were both rife. Coach loads of lads on stag do's in a town with a different accent would inevitably be involved in large scale disturbances. Some of these lads were soulies, some not. I've bought records from one of the worst (or best) hoolies in the country in our town. I've been to Blackpool Mecca and it's kicked of big time every week. Not all involved were soulies, many on the free bus went for the fight. Just a coincidence in timing IMO. most of my old mates are soulies and have at some stage been involved, but we come from a small feicely proud, and working class town mate. Not sure if it's the same nationwide, though Garv is from the South, so sounds likely. Best Dave
