Stan Robinson - Rhinoceros / CanShe Give You Fever (Amy 810) NM-

High quality but not much quantity. If there was some unreleased material kicking about then it would absolutely make a great compilation. As it stands, it probably won't happen though. Multiple people have tried.

While I wouldn't consider the Tuska discography complete by any means at this point, it sure hasn't been updated in quite some time. I don't have much biographical info on Richard Marks, and there seem to be very few people to ask at this point. I've spoken about him with the likes of Roy Lee Johnson, George Hughley, Hermon Hitson, Calvin Arnold and Tee Fletcher to name a few, and have never learned much more than that he played guitar. There may be a couple of other interesting people I could ask. As for the owner of the label, he won't talk about secular music anymore. A quick look at the label roster doesn't tell a pretty story though..... Richard Marks - deceased Barbara Hall - deceased Buddy Cantrell - deceased Jimmy Tig - deceased Bill Wright - alive, apparently doesn't like to revisit the old days (I have not spoken with him personally)

I listed this one last fall and nobody bit at it. Figure I'll try again since one went on ebay for more than my price today. PM or email agent45@gmail.com if interested. Bobby Strickland - The Girl That I Love / After All I'm Still In Love With You (Brother Love) NM $150 Still a little known deep soul and 70s dancer flip from Atlanta, unusual in that it's on a label which otherwise only released gospel. Thank you. I'll have to double check when I get home, but I believe it's "stereo"

This past weekend, I picked up a 2nd (I think) pressing of this LP on Jamie with the red inner label. Does anyone know when this edition was pressed? I know the 1st press is the yellow/white Jamie inner label. I am not sure how many times it was issued and for how long it stayed in print, hence the question.

All told I've run through a pretty fair number of these and have returned half of them. They're very spotty on speaker quality and the ones I returned had either a motor or a belt issue where the sound at 45rpm was "jumpy" for lack of a better term. Playing at 33 1/3 was inconsistent but better. However, I found some at a good deal and bought (after testing) four of these. I have purchased and returned an additional four. The one I've been using is still not as good as my GP-3 where the external speaker is concerned, but it's lighter, plays stereo through headphones (unlike the GP-3) and is holding up quite well. The battery drain is more pronounced using 6 x AA batteries versus 4 x D batteries. I've kept good batteries in my GP3 for over a year at a time. I've been using the Crosley since mid-December and noticed last night that it's time to change the batteries. Is it as good as a soundburger? Well, I don't have one, but I'd probably have to guess that it isn't. That said, it's a lot less expensive than a soundburger, so I do believe that this is a decent alternative without breaking the bank. I find that for pure convenience, I am reaching for the Crosley Revolution more than my GP-3 these days.

I realize that Manship gets prices that nobody else can but would anyone classify the price on the Lou Johnson EP as close to representative of the going rate?

Nobody knows for sure. The cook/chef story originated from Carl W. Queen (deceased), who owned the label. Countless phone calls were made to multiple states, all of which were dead ends. One of the Arthur Willis's contacted was highly amused as he had fielded a handful of calls from people looking for him, and wished he was the right fella since he must be important. In any event, this is a cold case. I know plenty about the label, and f*ck all about the artist.

I wanted to share a quick update on this thread, just because this is too good not to share. I'm the one who won the Billups 45, and it arrived yesterday, but in some unusual packaging. There was a medium size USPS priority box (dimensions 11" x 8-1/2" x 5-1/2"). Inside was an old rusty Kodak film canister packed in with plastic bags, styrofoam peanuts and fabric softener clothes dryer sheets (!). Inside the canister was the Eddie Billups 45. I've never seen packaging quite like it. I know most of us have stories about weird packing for records, but this one, for me anyhow, really took the cake!

This is outside the scope of Northern Soul to be sure, but one of my favorite Fontella Bass performances starts off this album. Funk fans who don't know it should check it out ASAP.
