  5. Law of the Land Joan. I once bought a w/d copy of The Dynamics 'Yes I love You' Top Ten off Matt Simpson down the 100club for £15. About a month later I was strapped for cash and sold it to Mr Brady for £150. Told matt and to compensate sold him some reords from my box at cheap value. Everyone's happy. Me him and Pat. Do you get it now? Kev

Another great Smokey Robinson and the Miracles-Just Losing You- I've only managed to pick it up on a Sounds Superb album so far but take my word its 'hairs on the back of your neck' kinda tune.

Is it just me but doesn't the later Smokey version of 'I'll try something new' sound better than the Miracles early 60's version. Kiki Dees version is also outstanding. What a vocal! Kev

Hey Ian I was reading the Pinnacle thread and you seem to know a bit about the business. I've read 'Death of Rhythm' & Blues and 'The History of Stax records' etc etc but could do with more info. What would be the market coverage of say a The Tempests, Maxine Brown, Chuck Jackson or Garnet Mimms album as opposed to The Miracles or The Tams etc. Any ideas??? Cheers Kev

I haven't come across that one yet-but Aretha has done so many good songs-one of my favourites lately has been 'I'm in love'. Kev

I don't think that's a fair comment as there's lots of 60's album tracks that have 'goodies' i. e. Leon Haywood 'Got to be mellow' or The Metros 'Do the Pied Piper'. The Shades of Blue 'A Way to Love' All phonomenal tunes. But you're probably right in the respect that albums in the black record market were not compiled in large amounts until later in the sixties, with the probable exception of the bigger soul labels like Stax and Motown. But surely Wand/Capitol/RCA/WB and others had there share of the market. Anyone got any more info please? Kev

Just thought as the ballads thread seems to be doing so well. And not knowing if this has been done recently as I'm a fairly new member. What about favourite mid tempo/ballad album tracks. 19. Don't care if it's underground or not me as long as I meet decent people and the music has been through quality control.
  20. Hey Mappy Lead and I'll follow. I've hit so many terrible nights in the last year or so. Not sure bout Ministry though can't afford the water and I don't fancy going to one of those places where the bouncers shoot you.
  21. Hey Mappy Nice to hear from you.........The debate goes on eh! Hope your doin ok. Kev
  22. Thank you
  23. Tell you what...we can have a rule...if your club night is south of the Watford Gap go for it Funny that, coz most of the good nights that have incorporated what I'd call 'soulful' house have been north of Watford and then some. It's a London thing and I've never been on a scooter in me life! But really even as a young un down the Casino and other clubs I frequented around the Burnley area in the mid 70's i always appreciated the new/modern sounds. Really got into em same as the Northern and oldies. Spent lots of time in the Modern room at Burnley Miners etc.. In the late 80's when I used to go to places thar played house and garage i was flabergasted. The first time I walked into a house club in Soho my teeth rattled and the strobe nearly gave me a fit. Not for me mate! Also down placws like garage City and other nights in Norwood and the like just left me cold. Too much looped vocal etc. Then in the 90's something seemed to happen. maybe it took a while for it to filter down to me but it began to sound more soulful. Production techniques (borrowed a lot from disco) and the vocals which were beginning to be allowed to flourish began to hit the spot. never looked back. still searching for the soulful ones. Just like I do with the northern. Checking dates, labels artists, producers. It's a big pond. I can understand if yoy don't like it anymore but for me the pond just gets bigger and wider.
  24. I'll share em with you. Pick up only? Kev
