  1. is there a link to the show ... really want to listen to it Andy
  2. This is such sad sad news ... it cuts as deep for me as many of us felt when icons such as Popcorn or Mike Terry left us. The simple fact is that John shaped our musically journey through life as much as those who made the records he discovered and we loved. An equal partnership in my eyes. We all have our stories about frantic phone calls .. stories he would relate about his numerous trips and the people he met that none of us could ever equal .... Many of us had visits to Soul Bowl and both places were pretty overwhelming. I recall my first visit to Portland St in the 70s, as I'd been in Kings Lynn with friends, I live not that far away, we dropped in one Wednesday morning to see what was on offer this week . pretty mindblowing ... in later years I used to go to West Winch with Steve Handbury as he had stuff to collect but as I didn't know if I had enough money that month to pay for my gas bill, let alone my mortgage, I was just an innocent bystander as deals took place... but just being there amongst all of that 'stuff' and seeing what he had sitting on his bench remain memories that I'll keep, and treasure, forever When it comes to buying vinyl I've always been frugal ... some would say tight ... and John knew that... so when I had some spare cash and phoned to try and buy a 45 off the list John would say "Ok Andy, clearly I've made a mistake on the price because that's the only reason you're calling" ... and he was right. It is a sad, so very sad, loss but what an incredible life he must have had ... he continued the journey, in a different way but as equally important, as people like Dave Godin, and many others, that opened a door for us all to enjoy and appreciate music that we probably take for granted but is firmly embedded in our DNA . R.I.P John ... thank you for just being you Andy
  3. The JW acetate was found in Rose Marie McCoys basement ....... the 'Switch Around' girl Andy
  4. True words indeed Chalky ... I think the 100 Club has gone above and beyond any other club Happy 40th guys Andy
  5. That's because it belongs to Ian Clark ... one could therefore assume this 'acetate' originated from somewhere in the Guildford area .. as opposed to L.A. Andy
  6. I believe it was a slightly different version as well ... certainly sounded different at the Palais Can somebody ask him ? Andy

  9. I've become confused ... not about Garrison Records because Steve G has set that record straight ... more about the Honey Bees There are comments on YT from family members about who they were ... I'm sure this has been pointed out before As examples Delano Williams 3 years ago This is My Aunt Barbara Williams; I AM Juanita Williams Son.... Thank You for remember them...... GOD BLESS There was a YT comment from a family member that named all of the group members Has anybody saved it ? Andy
  10. My memory is failing me ... should I be worried ? I taped all of the 45s Nigel got that day ... if I find it I’ll be able to list the lot ... obviously got confused about exactly what he got on which day Andy
  11. Indeed ... I’m sure he said £50 ... so that is quite a lot more than I recall him saying .. I’ve never been good at numbers unlesss they begin with TMG or ZTSC Thank you for clarifying the situation .... and as an aside lovely to see you on Saturday at the wedding do Andy
  12. It was a 7” ... Nigel Parker called in to see me the day he purchased it from Martin Koppel via Tim ... he’d been over to collect a few things ... Magnetics (Bonnie) being one ... he didn’t pay a lot for it as it was in pretty poor shape at the time ... lots of snap, crackle and pop ... I’m thinking it was £50 ... as we know it now lives happily with Mr Fortnum Andy
  13. Well it is a fantastic recognition for Richard .. and I think well deserved for reasons that go way beyond playing a few tasty tunes over the years It feels like an acknowledgment of the importance of British culture in embracing the lost music of the USA .. I just wish Dave Godin had been awarded a similar honour but I can imagine when Richard receives it Dave will be in his thoughts .... in my dealings with Richard humilty has always been one of his most endearing qualities So bloody well deserved .. thrilled for him Andy
  14. That must be the most heartfelt and beautiful tribute I've ever read. It's opened my eyes to a woman I only knew as a voice .. a jolly good one at that Thank you Alec for sharing your memories and the lasting tribute you've given her R.I.P Leola .. I feel I know you now Andy
  15. Sorry to be a bit slow ! .. I can't figure out what'nvm' means I'm intrigued Dave .. Harry should have taken much better care of those masters. I was in touch with him early 90s trying to work out a licensing deal but, as I recall, all of his tapes were long gone Such a shame but a common story .. Dimitri Villard told me he'd binned all of the Jet Set tapes, never thought they'd be of interest to anybody .. heard that so many times .. heartbreaking really Andy
  16. Thanks Chalky I’m aware of the other two recorded, but unreleased, tracks either via Tim or Gilly .... don’t recall we ever knew what they were but memory tells me they were cut at the same time as the Inferno 45 ... so connected to Duke Browner & Mike Terry and not George Fowler might be easier just to ask John .... when was April’s Fool Day ? Andy
  17. So ... in his accompanying text for the current Dena Barnes auction 45 ..... https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/auction/soul-auction/soul-auction-ending-this-wednesday.html John states the Inferno 45 was her second appearance on vinyl "Dena Barnes : If You Ever Walk Out Of My Life / Who Am I ( You Ought To Know ) :Inferno: 2002 DJ (45s) It's is hard to believe a voice of such exquisite quality, the voice of an Angel; had only two 45 releases, this is Dena's second Detroit 45 unlike her first record guided by Motown trainedGeorge Fowler some years earlier. This Northern Soul masterpiece enlisted the services of Duke Browner & Mike Terry to provide heavenly words and arrangement for Dena to craft not one, but two killer Northern Soul classics" So I'm very familiar with the work George did at Motown and his stewardship of the 'gospel' side of things .... his production on LaBrenda Ben 45s .. and reports that they were a married couple ... but the consensus is that he departed about '64 even though songs released later featured his name and he is listed as the producer in '67 on a Supremes track Simple question then ... what is this other 45 .. I've never been aware she had another release Looking forward to learning something new Andy
  18. Evening .... white DJ Copy wanted to upgrade please PM price and condition thanks Andy
  19. This is such sad sad news. I always had a very soft spot for Winston .. he was kind, funny, had an enviable passion for his music and living life to the full ... coupled with a humility and warmth that brought him nothing but admiration and respect .. he was just a really cool guy My deepest sympathies to his family and closest friends R.I.P Sir Andy
  20. The artist and title writing on the above is from the pen of Ian Clark .... I'm 99.9 sure of that .. I guess he picked this up from somewhere and then annotated the detail Andy
  21. Another very sad day I have great memories of Pete that will be treasured R.I.P. Andy
  22. Jeannine Greer .... Maiden name ... As I recall George was signed to Jobete as a songwriter which was the contractual reason for putting his wife's name on it it was also why any arranger credits, as on the Maltese 45s, were attributed to Mr Lucky .. George 'in disguise' Andy
  23. It is true .. he put his wife's name on it for 'contractual' reasons Have you got a link to the article you could post ? Andy
  24. Stemmons Express .. Woman, Love Thief ... Karma or Wand It was covered up as the Precisions .. Look There She Goes Andy
