  1. I got mine from Soul Bowl .. £10 and a clean, non-water damaged, copy ... Ian Clark tipped me off as it was still being played as the Harmonics - I'll Be Right There Got 2 copies of Charles Mintz on one of the Philly trips ... let them both go in time as DoS is the better version I tried to sell my DoS a few years ago for circa £300 but nobody was interested ... as a result it's still here .. thankfully I might say Andy
  2. Here it is Andy
  3. I've checked my old notes .. I did purchase on 2 August 81 ... Dave said I could go collect from Notts Palais dayer and if I hadn't arrived by a certain time Soul Sam was having it ... I didn't drive so had to persuade somebody to take me Andy
  4. It would have been late 81 early 82 as I purchased this from Dave Raistrick in August 81, for £50, and played it out as Don Gardner & The Chicago Hit Men ... I lent it to Ian so he cut get an acetate cut to play ... and then he secured a copy for himself it’s getting harder to keep track of time as the years pass Andy
  5. So John has listed a Dena Barnes and supplied this information which answers the question I originally posed ... https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/dena-barnes-if-you-ever-walk-out-of-my-life-who-am-i-you-ought-to-know-inferno-2002-dj.html "It's hard to believe a voice of such exquisite quality, the voice of an Angel; had only two 45 releases, this is Dena's second Detroit 45 unlike her first record guided by Motown trained George Fowler some years earlier credited to Rose Morris on Puff Records." I've listened to the YT post and sort of hear her when she was obviously a few years younger ... does anybody know the provenance of the information .. I'm just intrigued to know who 'knew' Andy
  6. It is Gino Washington .. Pete Lowrie got it from him on one of his Detroit trips Andy
  7. Evening Simon audiodisc acetate ... no artist name .. as you know played by Mr Brady as Jerry Cook .. pretty sure this came from John Anderson originally because when Steve purchased it from him he commented that he’d got it back .. from Pat B I therefore assume ... this surfaced at the same time as all of the acetates and vinyl that John got from the Leaner group e.g Mr Misery, Ringleaders, Accents, Jimmie & Entertainers ... so could it be a Chicago track or just a coincidence Andy
  8. Decided not to be so lazy but couldn’t find it on Discogs .... found it on Juno https://www.juno.co.uk/products/the-greatest-thing-rare-classic-60s/830766-01/ A
  9. Have you got a link ? Andy
  10. Beyond impressive ..... What a amazing piece of work Andy
  11. As noted the song was written by Rose Marie McCoy ... I see there is a YT link above ... .. but I have recorded it straight from the acetate, that came from Rose, of her demo vocal for the song Andy Rose Marie McCoy I Remember The Feeling demo.mp3
  12. The composer of the 45 Archie Himons was a member of The Parliaments who recorded 45s released on Cabel and Predictable ... and had solo 45s as Little Archie on Dial ... he was involved with the Magnificent 7 check this old thread out ... loads of info there I played Archie ‘She’s called a woman’ over the phone and he said it was him singing ... but when asked by others he said it wasn’t ! he sure sings lead on ‘Rainy Day’
  13. I had a response from Joey ... it was brief to say the least ... full text below "Hi Joey ... I trust this finds you well ... Just a quick ask ... Many yext belowrs ago we spoke about Johnny and you said you hadn't seen him in a long time and thought he might have ended up in a psychiatric hospital ... I just wonder if your paths have crossed since we spoke or if you have heard anything about him .. Additionally any idea about Horace Pinkard or Walter Lewis Smith who were co-writers ... Before you recorded Johnny .. releasing his 45 in Nov/Dec 67 he was in a group called John & The Wierdest who had a 45 released in Sept 67 .. did you know anything about that ..I've attached some pictures ..Best wishes, Andy" Joey's reply "andy, walter smith has been deceased ,i recorded john hendley first"
  14. I've dropped Joey a line .. will have to see if he responds Andy
  15. Walter Lewis Smith ... I know nothing about him .. I could ask Joey Jefferson but he's and bit hit & miss in responding Andy
  16. No ... it's Horace Pinkard ... I believe he died in 2011 Andy
  17. superb .. buy it .. support the guys and the artists Andy
  18. I spoke to Joey Levine a few years ago about another matter but this came up in conversation ... he said the idea for the song happened when he took his favourite leather shoes, which were pretty worn out, to the cobbler for repair ... he said, and I quote, the cobbler said "I'll do my best but there ain't no sole left in these old shoes .. I'll do what I can with them" Priceless Andy
  19. Agree ... I think the strangest one was Jackie Beavers - I Need My Baby ... covered up as Mel Britt ... what was that all about !!! Andy
  20. Nigel Parker had clocked that 'Try Me' was Junior McCants ... he spoke to Pat about it but Pat, as one would, denied it .. Nigel had done a compare and contrast to 'The Boy Needs A Girl' which makes it barn door obvious When Marvin was first played it was pitched up .. not intentionally as the cassette tapes had everything at a faster speed .. so it wouldn't have been immediately obvious it was Marvin Andy
  21. It would have been at least 40 years ago ... 78 or thereabouts ... I was still living at my parents .. I left in 81 ... in the same pile of 45s was a Del Larks with a damaged label that had been repaired, Joann Courcey on Twirl, Major Harris on Okeh ... so my memory of it actually is pretty sharp A
