  2. I'd quite like one ... where are they all ?? Andy
  3. This is such sad news ... but so pleased he finally got recognition, and royalties, from his legendary 45 thanks to Mark Bicknell I have a special connection to this 45 having first heard it on the 28 August 1980 in Skegness when Dave Raistrick played it as 'Roy Hamilton' ... I fell in love with it I pestered Dave and he finally agreed to sell it to me, in 1981, but I had one chance, as he had half-promised the 45 to Soul Sam, which meant a drive to a Sunday Notts Palais all dayer to hand over the £50 ... only problem was I couldn't drive and didn't have £50 .. but a nurse colleague, I was living in nurses residence at the time, drove me there and lent me the cash ... result So I covered it up as Don Gardner & The Chicago Hit Men - Gotta Find A Way .... inspired by Pat Brady having the General Assembly - Sensitive Mind - covered as Don Varner & The New York Soul Generation ... it sounded cool It soon became my No 1 sound .. and I soon lent it to Ian Clark who cut an acetate and then started playing it at Yate ... and Nigel Parker borrowed it a few years later when he was DJing at Bradford .. the rest, as they say, is history R.I.P Eric ... Andy
  4. Just to note ... Bobby Allen, who was one of the trumpet players on the Shrine sessions, later became a member of the El Corols .. and had a 45 release on Rouser .. told me that Frank Beverley's uncle was also in the group ..so there is afirm connection between Frank and Rouser Andy
  5. I spoke to Pat Livingston about the 45 as she co-owned the label with Don Wilson.. she only vaguely remembered Esther and didn't have a copy .. she tried to connect me to Don via his daughter but that got nowhere .. still a very tough 45 Andy

  7. yes I did meet him .. he was a very nice chap Andy
  8. Vince Montana gave me this acetate when I visited him in Philly ... the annotation 'Me and Bud' means Vince M & Bud Ross Andy
  9. http://soul-patrol.com/the-dreamlovers-a-philly-doo-wop-history/ worth a read Andy
  10. I spoke to Herbert Campbell on a few occasions many years ago and still have the cassette recordings of those conversations With regards to 'Double Cookin' he referenced the fact that it was very heavily influenced by the Motown sound and in particular the strings on Kim Weston's - I'm Still Loving You ... which he said had received a lot of local airplay when released the previous year ..... I think many of us had clocked that but it was interesting that he confirmed it was so Andy
  11. Just found this on the shelf ....
  12. OK that's great ... always best to check just in case .... Andy
  13. Have you touched base with Keith Rylatt ? He featured the details of the Tour heavily in his book 'HITSVILLE - The Birth of Tamla Motown' .. and spoke to a lot of those who attended Andy
  14. It wasn't an Ace/Kent release so not included ... I was shocked, but thrilled, when it came on Andy
  15. And Mr Peel played The Cairos - Stop Overlooking me ... when Ady released it on Horaces Margaret is the sister of Bobby Mandolph (Vault Records) Andy
  16. He did ... https://www.facebook.com/groups/162490680469744 Andy
  17. Sure Pete Smith listed one today for £100 A
  18. Never ever seen a single sided DJ copy ... must be tough ... well obviously it will be if there was only a run of 50 Still wonder why they bothered given the personal nature of the song
  19. Lifted from the 1964 Radio Luxembourg 'Record Stars No 3' Annual ... might be of interest to some
  20. I think I purchased mine at a St Ives niter ... maybe 78 for about £6 ... put it up for sale about 10 years ago, via a dealer, for around £80 but nobody was interested ... he also didn't have any takers for my George Hobson or Delegates Of Soul so they are still here ........... thankfully Andy
  21. It's an odd one ... you would have thought that as this was done specifically for Scott Regan the number they pressed would have been really low ... you wouldn't imagine that other Radio DJs would play a song promoting another DJ or Radio Station ... but I recall seeing it a lot in the late 70s for less than £10 Makes you wonder why Ric Tic didn't just cut a few acetates for Scott for his own personal play Andy
  22. It's pure Philadelphia ... might be influenced by the Detroit crew ... as everybody was at those times Andy

  24. Pretty sure it was a Soul Sam exclusive for quite some time covered-up as Smokey & The Blades - Hang On In There ... only the instrumental side was played at the time .. the vocal didn't get a look in Andy
