  1. Whats the luther randolph take on just gotta have you like Andy I'd like to hear that I think it's included in one of the six-pack sessions that were put in in 2000 ... should be in Refosoul Andy
  2. These must be some of the first recordings the Stylistics made ... note both written by Marty Bryant, their road manager, and Robert Douglas, a member of their backing group Slim & The Boys The songs sound nothing like the group who went on to international fame Andy
  3. Luther Randolph demo versions of 'First Date' & 'I Just Gotta Have You' subsequently recorded by Nella Dodds
  4. Hi Robb BMI lists the writers as Lucille White and Sidney Barnes ...... https://repertoire.bmi.com/title.asp?blnWriter=True&blnPublisher=True&blnArtist=True&keyID=692961&ShowNbr=0&ShowSeqNbr=0&querytype=WorkID Andy
  5. Ronnie Forte - Tarx
  6. Following on from the excellent thread highlighting unusual releases from around the world I thought it would be of equal interest to see label scans of acetates. I'm sure many of us have the odd item sitting on the shelf. I'll kick off with 4 of mine Andy
  7. Is it just my defective hearing or does anybody else hear an echo of a slowed down rhythm track of Eddie Parkers' . "I'm Gone" when listening to the Tiaras - "Love's made a connection" .... well in parts anyway if one is clutching at straws !!! Andy
  8. are we able to listen to samples of the songs anywhere ??? Andy
  9. Interesting to note my Frankford/Wayne acetate has the Showtime label details on Andy
  10. So do we know who the second bidder was on the Bill Dennis ? Maybe I should offer him my copy Andy
  11. Sad news indeed. His contribution to our lives was significant. I hooked up with Don in the 90's via Eddie Singleton, they had been good friends for many years, and Don & I spent many hours chatting on the phone about his life and times. He was a real character in every sense of the word I'll raise a glass to him tonight RIP Andy
  12. This was photocopied from the original acetate 20 years ago. Sadly I only had access to a B&W copier. I believe this went from USA source to John Manship to Richard Searling Andy
  13. French .... maybe ?? Andy
  14. Hi Lorraine How wonderful to see you here. I can't really add anything to the numerous comments that have been made other than to agree that it is an honour to have you with us. take care and enjoy Andy
  15. Thanks to all Much appreciated Andy
  16. You're correct Ian .... he has always had the master. I got a cassette of a bunch of unissued stuff off him many years ago including a funk version of 'One More Day' by some group I always loved the a capella fade on the GAR release ... shame it's not here but the srings and vibrant horns sound great Andy
  17. Always a possibilty as we all know ... stating the obvious the label was owned by Pat Livingston(e) and Donald Wilson ... Pat never had copies, and doesn't have any, and doesn't recall much about Esther Grant Donald has been dead for years .. he has a daughter, called Debbie, but she remains elusive. So location from the primary source looks like a 'not going to happen' scenario I wonder if the rarity is related to the odd whistling sound that you can hear on the 45. it's obviously not intentional but possibly a mastering fault or some other odd thing. Possibly a good enough reason to ditch the pressings Andy
  18. Pete ,,,, bless you and thank you for the response Hope all is good with you I think it is Chuck take care Andy
  19. get your ears tested ANDY
  20. I'm 99.99999999% sure it's Chuck Jackson If you check BMI it's a Joey Levine - Laynge Martin composition which, according to my logic, places it in New York I think Mr Rounce has better ears than I so I would bow to his expertise and opinion if he is able to comment Andy
  21. It was The Executives .. released in 67 see here https://www.poparchives.com.au/407/the-executives/my-aim-is-to-please-you Looks like Kenny Young, the songs composer, cut the original version Andy
  22. "If I remember correctly, this was written by UK writers Reed & Mason, always thought there would be a UK version out there somewhere" There is another version of 'My Aim Is To Please' from the 60s released in Australia .. I have it on tape somewhere but haven't listened to it for years .. I'm pretty sure it's on United Artists but forget the group name .. I'll need to try and find it I was also told once, possibly by Kay Lewis, of the Lewis Sisters, that Al Wilson had a brother called Ted who was a singer ... so this could be him Andy
  23. Sorry Steve No idea ....don't even recall you having it Andy
  24. Thanks Steve - I think I only purchased two records last year and if I get Otis it'll be my first this year !! ... you letting everything go then ? Fozzie . thanks I do hope I pick one up Andy
