  8. I just wonder if the writer, Charles Daniels, who went on to C&W fame with 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia' (a big UK hit record) cut the demo on this ..... that would be interesting !!! I agree that in the UK it's always been a tough record to acquire ... not that expensive in the early days but price didn't reflect rarity as we've all learnt Andy
  9. Bobby Allen who played trumpet on the Shrine sessions was a member of the El Corals I obviously asked him about Frank Beverly on Rouser thinking he might be able to throw some light on the connection .. he said that Frank's uncle was a member of the El Corals which might explain how Mr Rouser hooked up with Frank .. all assumption but could make sense Andy
  10. I have to assume Data is a typo .. it should be DaDa really Andy
  11. Sorry for delay chaps Here it is ... 7" acetate Andy
  12. George - As far as I'm aware Richard still has it .. I've not heard anything about it being sold although cannot discount the possibility of a private sale Chalky - the acetate is the one that Richard played c/u as Rose Valentine and having had it in my hands I certainly felt it was the real deal. I've never seen the acetate/s that Gilly & Tats got and to be honest didn't actually realise they had acquired any until you said. I'd always assumed they just got cassette tapes ... but you know what they say about people who assume things Andy
  13. The acetate Richard had was a genuine 60s 7" with full label details so he always knew what it was. As we know it came from John Anderson and was in the find that included her 'Lean Lanky Daddy' acetate that Ian Clark got. When Ady was compiling the first Dave Hamilton CD Richard supplied a cassette of the 'What Should I Do' acetate for comparison purposes. He also supplied a photocopy of the label which is added to this post I will never forget sitting in the car with Tats, and Steve, listening to it ... he told us it was Dena Barnes but I struggled with believing that. Knowing for sure it was a Detroit recording prompted me, the following day, to call Dale Warren to see if he might know the song or could identify the singer. He thought it was familiar and suggested the singer might be Orthea Barnes. I eventually tracked her down in a bar and played it to her with high hopes that she would reveal all. Sadly my dreams came crashing down when she said she had no idea. Thankfully the real identity was eventually revealed and the rest, as they say, is history. It is amazing to think that the quest to discover the identity of one song led to the work of Dave Hamilton being made available to the world ... all thanks to the hard work of Gilly & Tats and continued by Ady. We have a lot to be thankful for Andy Rix
  14. Hi Steve I didn't get any copies of 'The Hardest Part' .... I never spoke to Curtis just James Lindsay... In 2000 I contacted George Tobin searching for copies of THP without any result. I'm pretty sure he had some but wasn't very forthcoming about them. What was of interest was being told that the song was written for and recorded by David Ruffin but the project was shelved as David, apparently, ran into some problems with the IRS which created some problems. George said the tracks remain unreleased in the Motown vault .... .George then cut the track on Curtis Anderson some time later I also spoke to the co-writer Gary Goetzman who never knew that Curtis had cut the track .. he said there wass a possibility that Mike Piccirillo, the other co-writer, had the unreleased David Ruffin version on tape So .. if anybody wants a challenge in tracking the DR version down start looking for Mike .. I never got round it Andy
  15. You must have got it somewhere else ... but we ordered about 10 copies and they were given out 'sealed' so can't discount the possibility that one of them was a non-disco 12" version although I'm sure I looked at them all and labels were exeactly the same I think we paid $10 each for them Andy
  16. Here's confirmation of the date I don't recall any of those we purchased being any version but the disco one I spoke to James Lindsay last year, he has no stock left of 7" or 12" He said they released the non-disco version first but rapidly replaced it, with the boom boom version, at the suggestion of local DJs who thought it would do better in the emerging disco market Best Andy
  17. It's Norma Jenkins ... unissued and unavailable Mr Manship had the Jobete acetate up for auction a few months ago Andy
  18. The Volcanos - A Lady's Man (Arctic) was also recorded in Detroit .. Golden World studios as far as I recall Andy
  19. As I recall Carl Fortnum purchased the original acetates from Tim Ashibende I'm 99.999999% sure that Carl made at least 2 copies ... certainly Nigel Parker had one of them as he brought it to my house to play it to me This might be one of those copies Andy
  20. He is the same guy .... His father co-owned Random House publishing one of the largest in the world I've been to his 3 storey Brownstone in Manhattan where I managed to smash some of his treasured 78s whilst looking through his records He is also the guy behind the music of Sesame Street Andy
  21. Jobete acetates from Brenda, Kim. Liz Lands and an unnown NY group doing the demo for the Exotics 45 on Coral
  22. I typed them I can't recall how the tracks got duplicated across a number of cassettes but two of them will be direct copies of your originals... I just couldn't remember which out of the 5 !! Andy
  23. Robb Here's the flip with 'Diane Lewis' written on in pen. The track was produced by Andrea Henry. This acetate came out of Herman Griffin's garage ... so did Andrea & Herman have some ownership of 'Love Records' Andy
  24. Mr Shard You might recall I borrowed all of your original cassettes ... the scans certainly include all I borrowed + possibly a rogue one from elsewhere .. these all date back to late 80's Andy
