  1. This might shed some light on the spelling .. lifted from a posting elsewhere "I'm Billy Hambric's nephew. My name is Rev.Roger L. Hambrick!" Andy
  2. I've come to the conclusion it was all a dream ... Never mind Andy
  3. My search so far has only found a Drum copy listed on Record Haven ... i'm begin to worry i might have dreamt it all up .. still doesn't explain why I noted it down in my book at the time What was interesting, looking at those old lists, is noting the fact that the Honey Bees - She Don't Deserve You (Fontana) at £30 was more expensive than Tomangoes, Mel Britt, Candi Staton, Yvonne Baker, Four Perfections, Freddie Chavez and so on. I guess that what demand does Andy
  4. I would hope Kev Roberts might recall selling the 45 I can see that i'm going to have to go through all of my old record lists to find it Andy
  5. In 1979, or thereabouts, i recall being at a St Ives all-dayer and Jonathan played Billy Hambric. I was standing on the stage at the time and was taken aback to see that his copy was on Fury, yellow label with black block lettering. i asked to have a look at it as I'd never seen one before. I then seem to recall the 45 appeared on a Record Haven sales list for circa £40 .... So ... did I imagine things or does it really exist Any idea where that copy went or if others reside in anybody's collection. It doesn't seem to appear in the Fury label listings that I've seen .. granted i won't have seen them all So .. thoughts anybody Thanks Andy
  6. Two from Eddie Holland
  7. It is J.J. Barnes and remains, officially, unreleased Andy
  8. A couple of years ago Harry Bass told me about looking at these mags on-line. Over the last year, when I've had a few minutes spare, I've done random searches for things which I've compiled as I've gone along. Rob Moss recently did an article on Billboard which I found really interesting so thought it might be worth sharing what I've assembled to date. I haven't yet figured out how to 'grab' the text so you'll have to open the links and look for yourself. Maybe it's something that can be added to. 9. Steve I didn't see the Manifesto article .... did he explain the reasons for the releases on Rouser & Fairmount.. which came first etc or what the deal was As I mentioned in a previous thread Bobby Allen told me Frank's Uncle was in the El Corols and I wondered if that was the link to Tommy Rouse Andy
  10. Well you learn something new everyday.... I was always under the impression that Cameo recorded the origiinal version and had never connected the song to other artists. This thread has been really enlightning Andy
  11. Nice one Heath I guess it's not that commonly known ... sort of thing you need to dig down for She is married to Nick Ameno who was a member of the Lasalles, Antiques etc.... Rob Thomas and I visited her many years ago early one Saturday morning at her home in Buffalo NY Sadly no pictures ... she hadn't put her slap on so declined the photo opportunity. Nick was at work. We left with a trio of La Salle 45s .. Lynn Terry, Utopias & Antiques + her solo 45 on Rust Andy
  12. Some references here ... I don't know how to grab the text to reproduce I thought she was married to Joe Simmons who wrote the track ... think Tim Ashibende spoke to him about it Andy Billboard - 24 Jul 1965 - Page 40 Billboard - 17 Apr 1965 - Page 12
  13. The track is in the Vault but not listed as a Contours recording .. it is credited to Dennis Edwards as a solo artist Title is 'Can't Do Without Your Love' - Written by James Dean, William Weatherspoon & Spencer Seajoseffer .. I've never heard of the last guy and can find no other tracks written by him Andy
  14. Thanks Grant ... nice one Andy
  15. Yes .. the obvious answer .. trust me to look for the mystery that doesn't exist I've never heard this side .. will try and find it Andy
  16. Yes GGIML did get some play circa 78-79, can't remember exactly when, and was booted Which other Baby Dolls 45 are you referring to Ady ? .... the one on Boom ? ... which is reported to feature La La Brooks on lead vocal ? I recall hearing that for the first time when I was 13 so it pre-dates the Hollywood 45 being played out ... I'm pretty sure they must be different groups. The Boom 45 was co-written by Mike Lewis who also did stuff with Roddie Joy &; Vickie Baines Andy
  17. Same here Ted ... i found the IMO receipt for the money I sent to James Duval, of the Epsilons, a few weeks ago for the stash of Shrine 45s he had put in his mothers attic.... I paid about £43 for J.D. ...... Happy Days ! andy
  18. A vinyl 45 is a sensible way forward for Lou ... I got the CD and really treasure it As an aside I had a fascinating conversation with Jack Eskew a few weeks ago who remembered the 'Gone Wth The Wind Is My Love' sessions really well and was thrilled to hear the tracks again. His memories of L.A. Motown, Frank Wlson, Hal Davis, Brenda & Patrice were a joy to listen to. He was a prominent guy in those days and Brenda gives him a name check in the interview I did with her. I think it's somewhere around on Soul Source The world is full of interesting characters that we need to embrace As regards the 'bootleg' 45 that is just wrong and needs to be stopped Andy
  19. I think Chris King used to have T7MLA which looked cool I've seen , in my home town, 5LAG and 5LUT ... not soulful but highly amusing given the drivers were both women ... I mean would you ? Andy
  20. Thanks Pete I enjoyed listening to that ....I've never heard the Action version of 'Baby You've Got It' took me an age to figure out how I knew the words !!! Bobby Vee was also nice to hear again .. I have a USA copy on the shelf but haven't played it for years .. first heard this at Yate Andy
  21. Oops .. Sorry Steve ... for some reason I had it in my mind that Rob and I picked it up the trip after you went on. I guess I saw it at Rob's and the passage of time has distorted my memory If you're doing a clip I wouldn't mind hearing it again Cheers Andy
  22. James moved from Chicago to the West Coast, where he cut another version of the song ... he's been back in Chicago for quite a long time He said he left 45s behind in a facility, lock-up I assume, but it was a bit far for him to check what was actually there Andy
  23. HI Steve I wondered where that had gone ...one out of Rose Marie McCoy's basement along with Ronnie Forte (Abtone) ... I can't remember what the flip was like but recall it had some damage My memory says this was pioneered by Pat Brady circa January 1983 Andy
  24. I seem to recall it was a 7" Jobete acetate with no artist credit but it was always obvious it was the Velvelettes It is available on CD https://www.amazon.co.uk/Motown-Anthology-Velvelettes/dp/B0002Z9YGY Andy
  25. I bought Milton Wright as a new release for 85p purely on the strength of his name. I thought it was ok at the time but nothing special. It got filed away and I dug it out towards the end of the 90s to reappraise it. I thought it sounded a bit dull and pointless so it went in the sales box. I know I doubled my initial investment. Judging by the support I obviously didn't hear it in the right place to be able to connect to it .... sometimes it takes that 'moment' for a song to hit the mark Andy
