  1. The track is in the Vault but not listed as a Contours recording .. it is credited to Dennis Edwards as a solo artist Title is 'Can't Do Without Your Love' - Written by James Dean, William Weatherspoon & Spencer Seajoseffer .. I've never heard of the last guy and can find no other tracks written by him Andy
  2. Thanks Grant ... nice one Andy
  3. Yes .. the obvious answer .. trust me to look for the mystery that doesn't exist I've never heard this side .. will try and find it Andy
  4. Yes GGIML did get some play circa 78-79, can't remember exactly when, and was booted Which other Baby Dolls 45 are you referring to Ady ? .... the one on Boom ? ... which is reported to feature La La Brooks on lead vocal ? I recall hearing that for the first time when I was 13 so it pre-dates the Hollywood 45 being played out ... I'm pretty sure they must be different groups. The Boom 45 was co-written by Mike Lewis who also did stuff with Roddie Joy &; Vickie Baines Andy
  5. Same here Ted ... i found the IMO receipt for the money I sent to James Duval, of the Epsilons, a few weeks ago for the stash of Shrine 45s he had put in his mothers attic.... I paid about £43 for J.D. ...... Happy Days ! andy
  6. A vinyl 45 is a sensible way forward for Lou ... I got the CD and really treasure it As an aside I had a fascinating conversation with Jack Eskew a few weeks ago who remembered the 'Gone Wth The Wind Is My Love' sessions really well and was thrilled to hear the tracks again. His memories of L.A. Motown, Frank Wlson, Hal Davis, Brenda & Patrice were a joy to listen to. He was a prominent guy in those days and Brenda gives him a name check in the interview I did with her. I think it's somewhere around on Soul Source The world is full of interesting characters that we need to embrace As regards the 'bootleg' 45 that is just wrong and needs to be stopped Andy
  7. I think Chris King used to have T7MLA which looked cool I've seen , in my home town, 5LAG and 5LUT ... not soulful but highly amusing given the drivers were both women ... I mean would you ? Andy
  8. Thanks Pete I enjoyed listening to that ....I've never heard the Action version of 'Baby You've Got It' took me an age to figure out how I knew the words !!! Bobby Vee was also nice to hear again .. I have a USA copy on the shelf but haven't played it for years .. first heard this at Yate Andy
  9. Oops .. Sorry Steve ... for some reason I had it in my mind that Rob and I picked it up the trip after you went on. I guess I saw it at Rob's and the passage of time has distorted my memory If you're doing a clip I wouldn't mind hearing it again Cheers Andy
  10. James moved from Chicago to the West Coast, where he cut another version of the song ... he's been back in Chicago for quite a long time He said he left 45s behind in a facility, lock-up I assume, but it was a bit far for him to check what was actually there Andy
  11. HI Steve I wondered where that had gone ...one out of Rose Marie McCoy's basement along with Ronnie Forte (Abtone) ... I can't remember what the flip was like but recall it had some damage My memory says this was pioneered by Pat Brady circa January 1983 Andy
  12. I seem to recall it was a 7" Jobete acetate with no artist credit but it was always obvious it was the Velvelettes It is available on CD https://www.amazon.co.uk/Motown-Anthology-Velvelettes/dp/B0002Z9YGY Andy
  13. I bought Milton Wright as a new release for 85p purely on the strength of his name. I thought it was ok at the time but nothing special. It got filed away and I dug it out towards the end of the 90s to reappraise it. I thought it sounded a bit dull and pointless so it went in the sales box. I know I doubled my initial investment. Judging by the support I obviously didn't hear it in the right place to be able to connect to it .... sometimes it takes that 'moment' for a song to hit the mark Andy
  14. Wow ... thanks Steve .. that's really generous ... feel like the sun is shining on me today Cheers Andy
  15. Both would be good .. I have a pile of Uk Pop that need sleeves as well as USA stuff You're a gent Best Andy
  16. I'll send you the postage now Pete as advanced payment That's a serious proposal Andy
  17. Dave Can you give us more detail on the 4 CD Box set you mention ...with regard to any interesting alternate takes I see on Amazon & E-bay that it is out of print thesecdays Thanks Andy
  18. I think the Wand guy is related, possibly lthe cousin of, Jackie Wilson The 'Snake' guy is a different person and I believe the brother of Ted Wilson (Sierra) I might be totally wrong !! Andy Rix
  19. Thanks all That website is amazing ... must have taken ages to put together Derek - you're a good lad. Look forward to hearing from you Best Andy
  20. USA Tamla & Motown Company Sleeves wanted I'm looking for sleeves for the USA group of Motown labels ... Tamla, Soul, VIP etc... If anybody has any spares I'd appreciate you contacting me with details .. condition, price and so on In particular I'm chasing Motown : Red or Blue Record Player design Tamla : Black Penny Farthing design Hitsville USA : Black & White with record label names on the lower half The Sound of Young America : Album Favourites design in Red, Blue, Green, Brown or other I'm trying to get all off my Motown collection 45s into proper sleeves so any help appreciated Thanks Andy
  21. I just wonder if the writer, Charles Daniels, who went on to C&W fame with 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia' (a big UK hit record) cut the demo on this ..... that would be interesting !!! I agree that in the UK it's always been a tough record to acquire ... not that expensive in the early days but price didn't reflect rarity as we've all learnt Andy
  22. Bobby Allen who played trumpet on the Shrine sessions was a member of the El Corals I obviously asked him about Frank Beverly on Rouser thinking he might be able to throw some light on the connection .. he said that Frank's uncle was a member of the El Corals which might explain how Mr Rouser hooked up with Frank .. all assumption but could make sense Andy
  23. I have to assume Data is a typo .. it should be DaDa really Andy
  24. Sorry for delay chaps Here it is ... 7" acetate Andy
  25. George - As far as I'm aware Richard still has it .. I've not heard anything about it being sold although cannot discount the possibility of a private sale Chalky - the acetate is the one that Richard played c/u as Rose Valentine and having had it in my hands I certainly felt it was the real deal. I've never seen the acetate/s that Gilly & Tats got and to be honest didn't actually realise they had acquired any until you said. I'd always assumed they just got cassette tapes ... but you know what they say about people who assume things Andy
