  1. Hi ... PMd you yesterday .... Andy
  2. Eddie and I spoke about this a number of times and he never once indicated anything other than Lada was the vocalist ... and given they co-wrote the song, which he confirmed they did, as opposed to him bringing a song to her and then cutting a songwriting credit share to 'persuade' her to record it would puzzle me as to why another artist would be drafted in to cut the vocal as her performance wasn't good enough ... would she really let that happen ? Obviously there are a number of potential scenarios ... Eddie had a rough demo recorded with Miss X ... he plays it to Lada .. they work on the final lyrics so share credit .... but that all is theory I've fallen foul in my interpretation of stories .. and I have no reason to challenge what Eddie told Tim .. but it was never a conversation I had .. he always indicated it was Lada ... and my ears tell me it's Lada singing Sadly Eddie isn't here anymore so we can't ask him Andy
  3. Beyond impressive .... Well done Chalky for a brilliant job done so quickly .... And thanks to Larry for preserving history Andy
  4. I first contacted Charles Spurling in 1999 as I wanted to learn more about the Junior McCants 45. That proved to be fortuitous as Ady started working on the first King Northern Soul CD (CDKEND 185) shortly afterwards. What Charles said was that Junior was giving him a lift across town on his recently acquired motorbike when he called out that he couldn't see; Charles took control of the bike thus averting an accident. As a result of this sudden onset of vision loss Junior went to the hospital where the diagnosis of a brain tumour was subsequently made. His sad death followed shortly afterwards. The planned release of 'Try Me For Your New Love' was cancelled as a result. Charles had a copy of the 45 which he had removed from the King record library ... and I recall that Tony Rounce said when he went through the library that there was a note left where the 45 should have been saying "taken by Charles Spurling" ... or something along those lines. Charles couldn't find the 45 and upon asking his son discovered that he had taken it to play. Charles tried for a few years to get it back but his son said he had lent it to a friend and subsequently it had disappeared. Who knows where that might have ended up. The conversation with Charles was used in the sleeve notes for the King CD ... which I'm sure you can still buy .. and I suggest you do if you don't have it Andy
  5. Does any video of this performance exist ? Andy

  11. I've just listened to half a dozen and technically they are incredible ... I certainly couldn't do anything like this ... and like many I'm not a huge fan of 'messing around' with 60s Motown tunes ... but these mixes bring out so many individual elements of the recordings that they become somewhat addictive. For something to listen to at home they are brilliant ... just amazing Andy
  12. Are these extended mixes available anywhere to listen to ...... I find such things quite intriguing thanks Andy
  13. I love stuff like this Nice one Dave Andy
  14. The featured version of the Fantastic Puzzles - Come Back - is a different take to that issued on the New Moon 45 .... not much different but the vocal is certainly an alternate take ..... one of my fave tunes from the 70s Andy
  15. I'm just waiting to hear from Dennis .... I'll let you know what he says when he gets in touch Andy
  16. When this thread first started I contacted Joseph Anderson, who alongside his brother Stefan, are the Anderson Brothers as featured in the picture They have soulful connections as detailed here .... https://www.geocities.jp/hideki_wtnb/anderson-bros2.html Stefan did record 'You're In Love Child' for Crazy Horse .. which got some spins years ago ... but with regard to the GSF 45 Joseph basically said "It's not us ... we know nothing about it" So I wonder who it is then Andy
  17. That's my recollection as well .... first spun by JM as Lenny Curtis - Not Another Day ... I might even have a cassette tape in the garage of the Cleethorpes spot where it got its first play Apparently the song was recorded at the infamous Gold Star studio in L.A. Andy
  18. Joe is in the middle ... white hair & glasses Andy
  19. I asked Joe about this and he said it was recorded at the RCA studios in New York ... Gloria Toote said she leased it to the Leaner Brothers as she was trying to get the Tru-Glo-Town product into new markets Andy
  20. A brilliant CD
  21. It is ... CDKEND 280 .. The Right Tracks - The Complete Okeh Recordings 1963-1966 Andy
  22. Thanks John is anybody in touch with Josie Armstead or Val Simpson ..... They might know more The song looks like it was written around September 1968 Andy
