Coveted Tracks You'll Probably Never Own On Original 45
Sebastian replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
I will not be buying a copy of Liz Verdi's fantastic "You Let Him Get Away" in a hurry... unless it's a copy where the other side ("Think It Over And Be Sure") is unplayable I guess... -
A couple of years ago "The Peanut Duck" was included on Rhino's massive box set "One Kiss Can Lead to Another - Girl Group Sounds Lost and Found". As far as I know they're a company that properly license eveything they release. I don't have that box-set, so don't know what info can be found in the booklet, but perhaps there are some clues?

If you like screaming deep soul you definitely should.
-
Most likely because it's a pretty rare 45 that features the phenomenal deep soul side "If I Ever Needed Your Love". It has been selling for £100+ for years.
-
The Uplook is first. Was then picked up by Abbott for national distribution. The Uplook issue is on vinyl and the Abbott issue is on styrene.
-
No, they are both pressed on vinyl.
-
If it's the Doni Burdick "Slant" cover-up you're talking about then it's "It's Gonna Rain" by Gentleman June Gardner on EMARCY. A very well known tune that as has been stated was comped on a high profile New Orleans funk compilation a bunch of years ago.

I would go for the James Barnett version on FAME myself. Found the french 45, here it is (note the mis-spelled name!):
-
Definitely issued on a french Atco 45 (as well as on a US LP). Will see if I can find my copy of the 45 and post up a scan.
-
Glad you enjoyed the mix, James! That P.J. City track is a beast of a tune. Helena has indeed been spinning it heavily during the past two years and it's a constant floorfiller at the Function nights. Have been on the lookout for a copy ever since she outbid me in that eBay auction... I'm incredibly glad that I finally own a copy of that 45! Thanks! Glad you liked the mix. Don't think the Bobby Caldwell is too well known, and a lot of people probably think it's a bit cheesy... It's always been cheap when I've seen it for sale ($30 or less). Thanks Simon!

Not much. A copy on eBay ended without bids at $19.99 about a week ago. I managed to sell my copy for $34 on eBay 2 years ago, but that was before Kent put out their Spencer Wiggins set and the demand for the japanese CD seems to have disappeared after that.
-
I see what you mean, and apparently written by Pam Sawyer and Lori Burton. Didn't know that earlier. Just did some research and noticed that the exact same recording of "One Sweet Kiss" as on the Hopefuls 45 is included as a "previously unissued" track on a Candy & The Kisses CD compilation called "Do The 81 & Other Soul Classics". I haven't heard the flipside of the CARDINAL 45, but it's called "Stand By And Cry" and apparently both Betty Turner (on LIBERTY) and Jan Panter (on CBS UK) recorded versions of that tune.
-
It's "One Sweet Kiss" by The Hopefuls on CARDINAL. It was comped on one of those "Girls Girls Girls" CDs from MARGINAL. Have only ever seen it on that Belgium label.
-
Was issued by KENT on a 7" about 5 years ago. Unissued/CD-only otherwise. It has got Bill Brandon "Streets Got My Lady" on the flipside. Manship has got copies at £8 each: https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/d/76490/EDWAR...w__BILL_BRANDON I personally prefer America's original version...
-
It is legit. Have a strong feeling it was reissued because the owner of the label wanted to spread the music and not because it was in-demand. Great tune, just a pity that the drummer is a bit out of it during one of the breaks...
