  1. If there's an edge on the outer part of the label where you could peel it off if you wanted to = it's styrene. If the label is moulded into the record and you can't peel it off no matter how much you wanted to = it's vinyl. But then there are also the Amy/Mala/Bell-distributed styrene 45s that have got "painted labels", i.e.:
  2. Only about 1-2 hours left on these auctions now. Thanks for looking! :-)
  3. Earlier this year when you asked about this 45 here on SoulSource I did a "completed items" search in eBay and a black issue copy of the Don Covay 45 on Landa had sold just a couple of weeks earlier. It sold for less than $30, but was in poor condition. I thought that I had saved the label scan, but can't find it now. I did however definitely see it. I'll post up the scan if I find it.
  4. He did two sessions at Stax Studios, the first in July 1973 and the second in September 1973. These recordings can be found on three of his albums - "Raised On Rock" (1973), "Good Times" (1974) and "Promised Land" (1975).
  5. There's another article about it as well, written by Stuart MacDonald. Here are links that goes straight to both articles: STUART COSGROVE: https://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/c...icle5732973.ece STUART MACDONALD: https://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/s...icle5733428.ece
  6. Might be worth mentioning in your auction text though that "How Young Is Young" wasn't issued on a 45 in the US. Actually, I don't think it ever was released anywhere apart from on that french EP (and on a latter day Stardust 45)? Can't find any US release info for it, not on any of his LPs either. It was recorded during the same March 1964 session where he also cut "It's All A Bad Dream" and "You Made A Man Out Of Me", but "How Young Is Young" seems to have only appeared on this french EP.
  7. Indeed. Also strange that there is more than a full year between the Gordy and Laurie releases. The 45 on Gordy was issued in April 1962 and the Laurie 45 was issued in October 1963.
  8. GREAT tune indeed! As far as I know the Fania release came first, but both are from 1970/1971 or so. In my experience the Fania release is harder to find than the Uptite one, but as far as value goes I've never seen either sell for more than £30-£40. It's interesting to note that in the latest Manship guide the Fania 45 is valued to £10 and the Uptite 45 is valued to £100...
  9. I've never seen that one before. Seems like the SGA issue is the second release as it credits (P) 1981 Rocmar Records, and has got different distribution info.
  10. That 45 is by The Simpson Sisters. A different group as far as I know.
  11. Here are the releases I know of: Crampton Sisters - I Didn't Know What Time It Was / I Cried When I Found You Gone - DCP 1001 Crampton Sisters - If You Were The Only Boy In The World / It's Gonna Take A Miracle - DCP 1101 Crampton Sisters - Always / My Guy Is Boss - DCP 1107 Crampton Sisters - Baby, Baby / Hey Boy - ABC 10853
  12. There's about 2 days left on these auctions.
  13. Haven't seen many copies of "Steppin Down" by Fredrick Knight on MAXINE.
  14. The Undertones, A Certain Ratio AND Mitch Ryder on just a regular wednesday night out. Nice!
  15. Yes, it was issued. Two issue copies have sold on eBay during the past 2 weeks. Below are scans of both the demo and issue:
  16. James & Bobby Purify had the big hit, but there are many versions around of it. Dan Penn's original version on MGM is great as well. He actually sings "I'm The Puppet" in his version.
  17. That is such a bizarre thing to say. "Cold Game" is superb. But the biggest part of my record collection is probably "just" music, so who am I to say...
  18. Was Diane Jenkins "Recycle" on CREATIVE FUNK ever played?

  20. Yes. Better vocal on the Connie Austin version in my opinion.

  22. OK, I understand that people think that it's ridiculous to cover-up a tune like this which isn't excatly the most exiting thing ever put to vinyl... but in which universe is Gentleman June Gardner's "It's Gonna Rain" absolute crap/appalling? Surely not "northern" in any way, but it's a good mod-jazz / club soul / rhythm'n'soul type of thing out of New Orleans. I can see that the cover-ing up of it gets people wound up, but why the actual tune offends anyone who have even the slightest interest in r&b/soul is beyond me.

  24. It is the same track as the Beckett Brown tune on RCA, but sounds like an earlier version. Here's the RCA version:
  25. I think Christian B has still got it. I seem to remember that he bought it from someone here on Soul Source. Scan:
