  2. Wow, didn't expect that sound at all. Reminds me more than anything of "Do Anything You Wanna Do" by Eddie & The Hot Rods. Which ofcourse is a good thing! Has got a very proto-powerpop / pubrock sound to it. If that was a cheap record I would've picked it up immediately. Wouldn't mind a "Shardarp" either...
  3. No, you never get charged by PayPal when you use their site to buy something. They do however charge you about 4% when you recieve money.
  4. KOKO 101 with "You Got To Give Love To Get Love" is one of the absolute rarest Luther Ingram 45s. Great pounding 60s dancer! Can still be had relatively cheap if you look around a bit. I have had 3 copies over the past 2 years, in wildly varying conditions, and they have sold for: $78.99 $227.50 $73.00 The version of "I Can't Stop" on the b-side is not the same recording as the later releases of that title. In fact I think there are 3 (or 4!) different versions of "I Can't Stop". Tony Rounce should have the full lowdown on this.
  5. Just found this elsewhere on the forum: "The Commotions - Sock it to me - RCA Custom acetate but recorded for Blue Rock...they did have a 45 on BR and are the same group who cut 'Motown' on La-Ro-Ke. This is a traditional in-your-face Northern stomper." AND "...best find was a RCA Custom acetate for Mercury Records by the Commotions called Sock it to me, same group who recorded for La-Ro-Ke & Blue Rock and I assume this to be an unissued Blue Rock track...its a traditional Northern dancer with some great horn breaks which really grabs you after a few plays..."
  6. Nice to see that Numero Group are so good at placing tunes from their "Eccentric Soul" compilations on major US TV-shows! A while ago George McGregor & The Bronzettes "Temptation Is Hard To Fight" (a Twinight recording) was used in an episode of "Mad Men" as well. I've also heard Kool Blues deep soul masterpiece "I Want To Be Ready" in an episode of "How I Met Your Mother" and Marion Black's "Who Knows" in an episode of "Weeds".
  7. I agree, the songs are definitely where it's at. But as for being a "soul singer", his voice sure leaves a lot to be desired. Have always considered him a pop/electro artist so that doesn't bother me much. His voice is good enough though. I'm a sucker for good melodies and the "Jim" album is full of them, I guess that's why I'm so fond of it. Daryl Hall singing these tunes... not that would've been something! Have to go dig out the "Abandoned Luncheonette" LP now...
  8. The entire "Jim" album by Jamie Lidell is superb in my opinion. One of my favourite albums of 2008 actually. Definitely check it out if you like "Another Day". Here's another good tune on the album called "Wait For Me": ">
  9. An amazing price for a styrene copy of that record. Congrats to the seller though!
  10. You're absolutely right. Very nice scans! That scripted logo on the left side looks great, will try to track down one of those.
  11. Have never seen that variation. Thought it was a mispress first, but the lettering is clearly positioned with having the Gordy logo on the left in mind. Nice find!
  12. I totally agree with that.
  13. Didn't know that it was free to all UK users. It's still invitation-only here in Sweden. No you can't. There's a big difference between being able to download and being able to record a song to your computer. Recording 1000 songs to your computer is a gigantic task and takes about 50 hours. To download 1000 songs via a popular torrent-file can take less than 5 minutes. It will ofcourse not stop illegal downloads. But if you make streaming music/video easy-to-use on both home computers and cell-phones as well as legal and offering a massive catalogue, then the reason to download things will gradually go away. I think it will in any case.
  14. There's also a striking resemblance between Benny Latimore's "Girl I Got News For You" and Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive". Some of the words in the lyrics are even the same!
  15. Should perhaps add that so far the free ad-supported version of Spotify only works in the UK, France, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Spain. The fee based version is available for most other countries though.
  16. Have been using it for 4 or 5 months. I use it at least 4-5 hours per day. Thousands of albums are being added each week. More info here: https://www.spotify.com/en/help/faq/ I've got a bunch of invites if anyone of you want to try it out. It's a fantastic service in my opinion and points the way forward. Legal instant streaming services with a gigantic selection that are either financed by ads or by reasonable monthly member fees (like Spotify) is probably the only thing that will ever hamper illegal music and movie downloads. Looking forward to when the upcoming cell/iPhone application for this service is released, and mobile broadband gets cheaper.
  17. Only about 1-2 hours left on these auctions now. Thanks for looking!
  18. Doesn't the below do the trick? It does for me.
  19. There's about 1 day left on these auctions now.
  20. Haha! No, I'm not taking the hit... You're not logged in by just going to the link above and you can't bid, if you do you just get an error message. So no worries!
  21. The first four volumes of "Sweet Sounds Of Muscle Shoals" were issued on CD in 1996 on the OVERTURE RECORDS label with the same artwork as the CHARLY LPs. I've been told that these are bootlegs though, but they sound superb and must've been sourced from tape/DAT and not recorded from the Charly vinyl LPs. For those of you looking to track them down, here are the titles of the CDs: "The Sweet Sounds Of Muscle Shoals Vol. 1: Tear Stained Soul" "The Sweet Sounds Of Muscle Shoals Vol. 2: High On The Hog" "The Sweet Sounds Of Muscle Shoals Vol. 3: You Better Believe It" "The Sweet Sounds Of Muscle Shoals Vol. 4: More Power To Ya"
  22. What's so horrible about the OFS Unlimited 45? "Mystic" is a decent funk instrumental to my ears.
