  1. So... what was the correct name for the group? Ivorys or Ivories? Which record company got the group name wrong? Ivorys on DESPENZA and Ivories on WAND. Perhaps that's the reason why the Wand issue is so scarce? They mis-spelled the band name, destroyed most of the copies and didn't bother to press up a new batch? Just a theory.
  2. I just had a look... and damn what an unnecessarily gigantic book that is! A great and informative read/look ofcourse, but the size and weight of it is ridiculous. Anyway... there's actually a different photo of the Dream Team in there. Here it is: Not relevant to this thread, but from the same book, here you have The Deadbeats of "No Second Chance" fame:
  3. Will dig out the beach music book and scan the Dream Team picture and post it up if I remember it. This is apparently James Edward Gregory:
  4. I don't know the names of the group members but: "I'm Not Satisfied" is written by James Edward Gregory. "There He Is" is written by James Edward Gregory and Myrtle Elliott. I guess that James last name was where the label name GREGORY came from. Both sides on this 45 are published by NIMBIG MUSIC which these days is owned by Howard R. Biggs. He is the son of Noah Biggs who started the SHIPTOWN and HOW BIG labels. More info about Shiptown/How Big etc.can be found here: https://www.shiptownmusic.com/ Here is a tiny picture of The Dream Team (from the site above):
  5. Yes. Loads of new soul/house/(any genre really) indie releases only gets released as MP3s. Or preferably as high quality WAV or FLAC.
  6. If you don't want to see the buy-it-now items, just click "Auctions only" at the top of the search page. I just did a search for "northern soul" in the records catagory on ebay.co.uk and then clicked "Auctions only"... and lo and behold, 7000 items out of 10000 disappeared!
  7. It was pressed several times at the time of release because it sold well locally. That's also most likely the reason why Wand picked it up for distribution, but I guess it was a case of "too little too late" and it didn't take off nationally. According to Manship: DESPENZA BLOCK LOGO: £600 DESPENZA SCRIPT LOGO: £750 WAND: £2000 He doesn't mention the third Despenza label variation though.
  8. Just 3-4 hours left on these auctions now. Thanks for looking! :-)
  9. The mis-pressed copies where "How Can One Man Live" plays "Hung Up On Your Love" were made in the early or mid 1990s. They are definitely not from the 70s. I'm on about the ones that looks like this:
  10. It's a 70s euro disco classic, isn't it? Clip on YouTube of Su Kramer: Here's Camouflage's version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSQmAGhRalM
  11. It wasn't issued as a 45 as far as I know. Can be found on this LP though: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260455645508 https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310153992799 https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180401956735
  12. There's now about 2 days left on these auctions.
  13. Check out post #11 here for scans of the originals vs. bootlegs:
  14. Don't know if you're bothered about which country it is pressed in, but have you had a look at eBay? There are some buy-it-now copies up there right now: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140279925243 https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360172015688
  15. It's unissued and acetate (mastertape?) only. Don't know how many original acetates there are out there, but I think it's just one copy. Or perhaps it was only on mastertape? It was bootlegged on a white label 45 a bunch of years ago.
  16. Hello! I've listed a bunch of records on eBay. There are label/sleeve scans and soundclips to all records. 17. The reason I'm asking is because I have a copy of this on Wirl that I've had for quite a while. I've never put much thought into this LP and it's just been sitting here, but as I was preparing to put it on eBay I started to do some research and found out that both a UK Wirl and UK Doctor Bird pressing is supposed to exist. Does anyone know for sure? Come to think of it... perhaps the WIRL issue is from somewhere else in the West Indies? But the machine stamped matrix markings "looks UK". In any case, here is my WIRL copy, housed in a heavy carboard (jamaican?) BMN sleeve with "paste-over" front:
  18. According to some discographies I've seen, the "Sensational Maytals" LP was issued in 1965 by both WIRL and DOCTOR BIRD in the UK. As Wirl DBL 1003 and Doctor Bird BLM 5003. Is that correct? And if so, which came first? Thanks in advance.
  19. Someone seems to have scooped up all his copies (not me, by the way!). Or perhaps Don has seen this thread...
  20. Another give-away is that the bootleg has got DISC JOCKEY and NOT FOR SALE on the label. The original issues doesn't. Perhaps it was booted from the elusive white demo copy and then printed on yellow paper?
  21. Only 2-3 hours left on these auctions now. Thanks for looking! :-)
  22. There's now about 1 day left on these auctions.
  23. Here's their news announcement about this: https://pages.ebay.co.uk/sell/sellerupdate/freeshipping.html Might be something in there that answers it.
  24. They will only charge the insertion fee if the item doesn't sell. And that is only £0.35 for a £50000 item with a £75000 buy it now, so not much of a risk. This only applies to ebay.co.uk.
