Ebay: Linda Jones (Turkey 45!), Sam Moultrie
Sebastian replied to Sebastian's topic in Website Sales
There's now about 2 days left on these auctions. -
...and the label on the 45 on the right, is about 3% smaller than the one on the left Plus it seems like the label on the right one has been printed using the "dot matrix" system (which the original definitely wasn't printed with).

Otis Clay - Only Way Is Up - Sold $255 Us
Sebastian replied to Sunnysoul's topic in Look At Your Box
Thanks for the comments everyone! I was personally more surprised at the prices achieved for the Fabulous Downbeats and Jeff Perry 45s. And that picture sleeved norwegian Free 45 went through the roof as well. I have no idea what happened with that James Taylor 45 that Dave mentioned above. It sold for over £250 and it was as far as I could tell a standard issue of "Carolina In My Mind". It is ofcourse one of the best tunes ever recorded, and M- UK issues aren't THAT easy to find, but the price achieved on that copy made my jaw drop to the floor. There were three people putting in similarly high bids though, so perhaps I was the one that was missing something (might have been a different version of the b-side or whatever?). There's no secret, I put a lot of work into this. I have a big mailing list of past customers, solid feedback, clear pictures, long soundclips of both sides of the 45, I sometimes make MP3-mixes with the tunes that I have up for auction, spend a lot of extra money on fees for "featured auctions", UK+US visibility etc. In my opinion you can't just put records on eBay and sit back and expect them to get bids. You have to promote your sales as well. That's what I would do if I opened up a store down the block, and selling things on the internet is not any different in that regard. By the way, that turkish Linda Jones 45 that I posted about a couple of days ago is on eBay now: https://cgi.ebay.com/...em=370377285281 -

That was cheap if it was mint! Usually goes for about 3 times as much when it pops up on eBay. Sold my copy for $327 about 4 years ago...

It seems like the word "rare" is taking on a new definition? As far as I know if a record is "rare" then it simply means that there are few copies around of it. It has got nothing to do with the tempo or style of a tune.

Don't know if it's of interest, but here's an article from a July 1978 issue of Billboard Magazine that mentions "Space Age Lover" and "Special Occasion" (plus its b-side):

I agree, it's amazing that it turned up here in Sweden. But you would be surprised at the amount of turkish stuff I've found over the past couple of years. Don't know if it has got anything to do with the fact that a lot of people who earlier lived in Turkey are now situated in Malmoe (where I live) or if the 45s for some reason were imported at the time of release. But it sure is interesting to find these oddities! Will upload scans later of some of the other things I've found.

Was out looking for records here in my hometown today and came across the 7" release of Linda Jones "My Heart Needs A Break" on Warner Bros. TURKEY! I didn't know that it existed. Has anyone of you seen this before?

Check out Howlin Wolf's "You Gonna Wreck My Life", Guitar Ray's tune is lyrically pretty much a straight cover of that one: Great version of "How Many More Years" here as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ou-6A3MKow&a=W-7zocZ9du0&playnext_from=ML

Vikki Styles - The Tears Won't Stop Falling - Odex
Sebastian replied to Sunnysoul's topic in Look At Your Box
Some eBay results for this 45: 2009-09-13 - $631 (VG) 2009-02-25 - $126 (G/VG-) 2008-09-11 - $720 (M-) -
The Clarence Carter version on ICHIBAN is from 1985.

Worth noting that the CAB release is the original issue, the one on CAMILLE came later. If you compare the deadwax markings on the CAB and CAMILLE issues it looks like they re-used the CAB stamper/mother for the CAMILLE press (which might account for the bad sound quality on some of those due to overuse of the stamper).

I've always been hesitant to believe that Billboard awarded Wigan Casino as the best disco in the world. Mainly beacuse it was a club that mostly played old music and it would go against what Billboard stood/stands for (i.e. promoting brand new music). But I'd love to be proven wrong as it's such a widespread and accepted claim that there hopefully is some truth to it. A scan of the article would be great if anyone of you has got it. The only mention of "Wigan Casino" in Billboard Magazine that I've been able to find so far is in a paragraph about Chosen Few's "Footsie" from a february 1975 issue.
-
A gentle bump on this. Can anyone throw up a scan of that article or point me to which issue it was printed in so that I can go find it.
-
His entire new album is superb in my opinion and packed with well-written tunes. Includes a very nice cover of Frank Lynch's "Young Girl" as well!
-
Does anyone have a clipping of that article? Or at least know which issue or month it was issued?
-
According to the liner notes in Numero Group's Twinight/Twilight anthology CD, the Mist were the same band as The Visitors on Bashie / Dakar / Dispo. Apparently the Mist 45 was issued (and quickly deleted) without the knowledge of any of the members in The Visitors.
