  1. Was just going through some LPs to put on eBay and while making soundclips I stumbled across this uptempo dancer from 1967 on a Columbia/EMI Bluebeat Series LP by Blue Rivers And The Maroons which I thought sounded surprisingly good. Has it had any scene history? Was it issued on a 45?
  2. Big thanks to everyone who has bought 45s so far. Have removed the sold items from the list above. Last chance to grab the remaining 45s before they go back into the collection. Have a look/listen.

  7. Same backing track as Senator Jones "Do You Love Me":
  8. He issued 45s on Bobby Robinson's ENJOY and FIRE labels too. The flipside on the MERCURY 45 ("Dance All Night") is a decent uptempo r&b/mod/club soul dancer. You'd probably have a better chance of selling it if you list it for that tune instead and make a soundclip. It wouldn't surprise me if the 45 on the CINDY label out of Elizabeth, New Jersey is by the same guy. "Stop, Think & Listen" on that 45 is a fantastic mid-tempo dancer. The frantic flipside "I'm Lonely Too" also seems to be popular.
  9. No, that was another copy from the same seller who sold the $610 one and it probably sold for more or a similar amount as the first copy. It was on eBay for only a day or so before the auction got cancelled. The seller probably was offered a substantial amount for it off-eBay so pulled it.

  12. When we had this discussion on here a couple of years ago it was suggested that the "bevelled edge" copies were from a later pressing batch legally done by Specialty in the early 70s (because the title was kept in print):

  14. Well... I think it's really good to have an archive of the achieved results that you can go back to.
  15. It would make a fantastic compilation in my opinion. Might help make the general soul listener a bit more aware of the awesome stuff that Motown put out prior to the big hits as well. Have been thinking of compiling a CD like that for my own listening pleasure and there's plenty more where the list above came from. A few tunes off the top of my head: Earl King - A Man And A Book Contours - Whole Lotta Woman Gino Parks - Fire Gino Parks - For This I Thank You Bob Kayli - Tie Me Tight Lee & The Leopards - Trying To Make It Richard Wylie And "His Band" - Money (That's What I Want) Miracles - If Your Mother Only Knew Temptations - Oh Mother Of Mine

  20. Thanks! I'm glad that the explanation is understandable. To further illustrate the "dot matrix" printing, here is a better close-up of the "D. Hall" text on the labels. ORIGINAL: RE-ISSUE:
  21. I've explained the differrences between the ORIGINAL and the REISSUE of this 45 here: /forums/topic/195234-james-d-hall-i-wanna-get-into-you/
  22. There was some talk a couple of weeks ago () regarding James D Hall's "I Wanna Get Into You" and the fact that there exists two different presses of this 45. The original 45 has always been and continues to be extremely rare. The copies that the artist himself was selling a couple of years ago are not originals. The re-issue is pressed from the same plates as the original so it is most likely a legal re-issue, but for those of you who don't want to have re-issues in your record collection, I'll try to explain the differences between the two below. Due to the two 45s being pressed from the same stampers they have the exact same matrix details, run-in/out groove widths etc. so unless you're holding them side by side it can at first glance be fairly hard to tell the difference between them. Here they are side by side: As you can see, they look almost identical. But when you close in on the lettering it is obvious that the RE-ISSUE label is printed with modern "dot matrix" style printing and the edges of the text is fuzzy. On the ORIGINAL the edges of the text are totally sharp. See below: Another difference is that the "dips" at the inner part of the label (closest to the hole) are much more pronounced on the RE-ISSUE. Have a look: So basically: if the edges of the text are blurry and the dips in the label are pronounced, then you have the RE-ISSUE in your hands.
  23. No, they are different recordings. GREGAR: CAPITOL:
