Thanks for your comments, guys. Might be the mastering, and I don't have a UK MCA issue myself to compare it to. But to my ears there's lots more reverb on the US Brunswick 45. Just listen to the brass, it's very "sparse" sounding in the soundclip above, hardly any reverb at all. Oh well! Just thought it was an interesting oddity.

I was just making a soundclip of what I thought was a spanish picture sleeved issue of the bog standard Barbara Acklin tune "Love Makes A Woman". But it sounds quite different compared to the regular US Brunswick 45. It is obviously the same recording/take, but it sounds very sparse and it seems like the "sweetening"/post-production (i.e. added reverbs etc.) is gone. Almost as if the sound went past the "effects console" when the master for this 45 was made. Have a listen below and let me know what you think. The picture sleeve has by the way got what must be the most un-flattering image of Barbara that you could ever imagine (why use that photo?).

Tollie says 1976 on the label. VJ international says 1977 on the label. I have no idea how accurate that information is though.

Was just going through some LPs to put on eBay and while making soundclips I stumbled across this uptempo dancer from 1967 on a Columbia/EMI Bluebeat Series LP by Blue Rivers And The Maroons which I thought sounded surprisingly good. Has it had any scene history? Was it issued on a 45?

He issued 45s on Bobby Robinson's ENJOY and FIRE labels too. The flipside on the MERCURY 45 ("Dance All Night") is a decent uptempo r&b/mod/club soul dancer. You'd probably have a better chance of selling it if you list it for that tune instead and make a soundclip. It wouldn't surprise me if the 45 on the CINDY label out of Elizabeth, New Jersey is by the same guy. "Stop, Think & Listen" on that 45 is a fantastic mid-tempo dancer. The frantic flipside "I'm Lonely Too" also seems to be popular.

No, that was another copy from the same seller who sold the $610 one and it probably sold for more or a similar amount as the first copy. It was on eBay for only a day or so before the auction got cancelled. The seller probably was offered a substantial amount for it off-eBay so pulled it.

Well... I think it's really good to have an archive of the achieved results that you can go back to.

It would make a fantastic compilation in my opinion. Might help make the general soul listener a bit more aware of the awesome stuff that Motown put out prior to the big hits as well. Have been thinking of compiling a CD like that for my own listening pleasure and there's plenty more where the list above came from.
