  1. Have to check that one out. Really like The Searchers version of Ducks Deluxe "Love's Melody", but I've only got that on a 45. Will have to get the LP.
  2. Only distributed by Stax in the US and obviously not soul, but it was issued on Stax in the UK. One of my all-time TOP 10 tunes:
  3. The a-side on the BSP release is from the SMASH 45 from 1968. The b-side on the BSP release is from the CAPRICORN 45 from 1970. According to some discographies the BSP release is from 1979. In any case it's a reissue.
  4. Yes, very common/cheap. Craig Moerer has currently got 212 (!) copies in stock.
  5. I've seen that bandied about as fact as well, but it's not true. The ERIC release of "I Got The Fever" has got cat# ERIC 5009. ERIC 5008 is Georgia Prophets "Music With Soul" b/w "California" and that 45 was originally released on CAPRICORN in 1970. ERIC 5002 is the Assembled Multitude's version of "Overture From Tommy" and that track is from 1970. Further to this, the Eric label was reportedly started in 1969. The Prophets 45 on Smash is from 1968.
  6. I agree. Both sides are superb, especially "Scotch...". Great mod/hammond instrumental.
  7. Not directly related to this thread... but as far as weird UK releases go... I stumbled across a UK demo of The Shadows "Scotch On The Socks" just the other day... and it had a big "B" instead of an "A" on it. Perhaps well known to everyone, but it must be one of the earliest instances of a "double b-side" (¡ la Stiff Records 10 years later). It just looks so weird!
  8. The "Thelma Story" CD on Goldmine, featuring the tracks discussed above, was released in 1994. I have no idea if the 45s were available before that?
  9. The instrumental synth/moog track "Popcorn" hasn't got anything to do with the "popcorn scene" as far as I know
  10. One of the venues in Belgium that played this kind of music was called "The Popcorn".
  11. The info in the run-out groove was only written/scratched/stamped once into the "mother stamper", all copies were then pressed from the mother stamper making the run-out groove markings on all copies of the 45 identical.
  12. A bit hard to read in these scans, but it just reads "Nashville Matrix" in fancy script:
  13. It's just easier. I gladly pay for stuff that makes my life easier.
  14. I agree, pricing things by going solely by Popsike is of no use. The prices are however the LAST thing I take notice of when I'm using Popsike. It's a massive hub of information about records, that's why it's so good.
  15. Posts a playlist = NOT worth his salt. Doesn't post a playlist = WORTH his salt. Apparently...
  16. Soundclip can be found on Manship's site: https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/d/154836/CENTRAL_POWER_SYSTEM It's a pity that the vocal wailings are so out of tune.
  17. I agree. Well worth the money.
  18. Anyone can/could press a record and have "SABAM" printed in plain text on the label. That doesn't make it official or legal.
  19. "VG" and "NM" are two very different grades.
  20. No, that's a reissue / repro / bootleg of some sort.
  21. I totally agree with you, I just commented on the fact that many of the records in for example rodw's list are good, not crap. Most of them are not cutting edge or extremely exciting, but good records that I would dance to. By the way would you really class the below (from rodw's list) as "oldies"? I.e. in the same league as Drake & The Ensolids etc? Markus Kelly - Pushing To The Top Frederick Knight - Steppin Down Martha Bass - Since I've Been Born Again Hot Ice Company - You Ain't Heard Nothing Yet Al Johnson & Angela Coulter - You Got To Make It For Yourself I'm obviously not at all a part of the UK northern soul scene, but the above are a bunch of records I've got myself and I've just kind of gotten the idea that tunes like the above have not been getting many spins in the past?
  22. Plenty of it is very good though.
  23. Thanks for the info everyone, I have amended the discography above.
  24. Definitely a "win" situation for you, it's a great 45.
