  1. The Fred Bridges, Wilson Pickett and Luther Ingram tracks are all the same tune. Written by Fred Bridges and Harrison Smith. Here is the BMI info: https://repertoire.bmi.com/title.asp?blnWri...uerytype=WorkID The Versatile label was active from 1960 to 1962. Does anyone know what cat# the Fred Bridges 45 has got? Wilson Pickett's version was recorded 1962 or 1963.
  2. Yes, it's out on a portugese EP as well on the Tecla label. Here's my copy (the only one i know of actually). The other side has got two tracks by Otis Redding.
  3. Well... I personally think his "Give a Man A Break" is much better than "Running Back". It was issued on both Uplook and Abbott, but the Uplook issue is the first release. His "Since I Found You Girl" (also on Uplook) is another good dancer. Click below to listen to RAs of: Give A Man A Break Since I Found You Girl
  4. Here are a couple of 45s I'm selling. PayPal payments are prefered, but cash is OK as well. Postage is extra. E-mail me at fonzeus@telia.com if you're interested in anything. You can click on some of the titles to hear a sound-clip. Here we go: Jessie Mae - Don't Freeze On Me - DRA - EX - £20 (great storming r&b dancer) Little Willie John - I'm Shakin' - KING - M- - £30 (one of his best records and a big spin at the r&b clubs, a truly awesome track) Salem Travelers - Give Me Liberty Or Death - CHECKER - EX - £35 (fabulous and obscure male group tune - slight warp NAP) Jimmy Robins - In My Heart - JERHART - EX+ - £10 (someone buy this off me now, it's fantastic) Dynamics - Misery / I'm The Man - BIGTOP - EX+ - £10 (two great uptempo dancers, an essential 45) John Andrea - (Just Can't) Let It Ride - MGM demo - M- - £10 (original version of Boston Hitesmen on MTA, big production, old Wigan spin) Dey And Knight - I'm Gonna Love You Tomorrow - COLUMBIA w/demo - EX+ - £10 (atmospheric mid-tempo tune) Big Mac - Rough Dried Woman - RONN - M- (dh) - £10 (rough uptempo r&b belter) Thanks for looking.
  5. Lillian Offitt's "Miss You So" on Excello has had some plays... it's from 1957...
  6. Ridiculously overpriced indeed! :-o No record is worth that kind of money. I personally don't like the tune at all.
  7. There's a copy up for auction here: https://www.cdkm.co.uk/en-gb/dept_85.html Minimum bid £7000. That's quite amazing...
  8. Oh yeah, by the way, his nickname was "Shagg" and he owned the label with the same name (responsible for Guitar Ray etc.). He also had the Hep'Me and loads other labels and recorded Charles Brimmer for Chelsea.
  9. His "Call The Sheriff" on Whurley Burley is also a brill dancer IMO. There's lots of info about him (plus a photo) in the booklet to Grapevine's great "Northern Soul Of New Orleans" CD from 2003.
  10. Absolutely fantastic tune! Such a screamer. Keep a look-out on eBay. A friend of mine has bought a bunch of copies (but given them away, sorry...) in the past couple of months for $3-$15 each. It was also issued on Athens. "Bill" is Billy Lee Riley, but who is "Will"?
  11. Totally agree, "Easier To Love" is a fantastic tune! It can also be found on the flipside on the "We Are Family" 45.
  12. I'm with you Ady. His version of "The Bottle" sure is utter shite! Really awful stuff. Don't think I want to hear his take of "IICOBS"...
  13. Yes it's true. They backed Nolan/N.F. Porter on most of his recordings ("Keep On Keeping On", etc.). Wouldn't compare Little Feat to Grateful Dead though and definitely not hippie... They were much more of a rootsy The Band kinda group and released quite a bunch of nice records IMO.
  14. Me neither. I can't understand why anyone would place bids prior to the last ten seconds of an eBay auction. It just doesn't make sense.
  15. No you are probably not. But on the other hand, I haven't heard that many people raving about it. I mentioned above that I love this tune. And I do (wouldn't say that it "sums up northern" but I can't be arsed about whether it's (northern) soul or not either - I like all kinds of music and a lot of my all-time faves are sung by piss poor vocalists), it sounds magnificent at a venue and is a good dancer. But in relation to how much it is selling for it is absolute crap. I do think it's a good tune though... Don't know if this makes any sense...
  16. Click here to download an RA of it. I love the tune! And the times I've heard David Flynn spin it (3 times I think, all in Gothenburg, Sweden) it has sounded absolutely fantastic. The last copy that went on eBay that I know of went for several thousand dollars.
  17. Must say that I prefer the original version by The Wildweeds on Cadet. Better vocals and without that over-the-top string section. Can be had for £10 or so. "No Good To Cry" was recorded by a whole bunch of artists and there's a decent version by Jimmy James & The Vagabonds on US Atco and UK Piccadilly.
  18. The one on Swan came out in 1965. The BB is a (most likely illegal) re-issue from 1967. The ITZY label out of Pittsburgh also booted lots of Swan tracks in the 60s like Mickey Lee Lane "Hey Sah Lo Ney", Sapphires "Who Do You Love" etc. These are all boots made in the 60s for the Pittsburgh market.
