There's an (incomplete) Charay discography on David Flynn's site, check it out: https://www.capitolsoulclub.homestead.com/Charaylisting.html

And to answer myself here some six months later... yes the Fiery Spartans "Talk About Love" 45 does exist, I've got a copy. It's the exact same recording as Pic & Bill and was most likely the first release for that tune. Do you need to know anything else Gareth?
-
There have been a bunch of different labels around using the Red Label name. One with Linda Clifford, Silent Treatment, Buckinghams and Osborne & Giles. One with some The Emotions releases. And then there's the one with some Barbara Trent 45s. Don't know if it's any of these you need info on.

Hello! I've got a copy up for grabs of one of the rarest Tamla Motown LPs, the original UK mono release of: EARL VAN DYKE AND THE SOUL BROTHERS That Motown Sound (Tamla Motown TML 11014) Side A: Nowhere To Run Come See About Me You're A Wonderful One How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) My Girl All For You Side B: Too Many Fish In The Sea Try It Baby The Way You Do The Things You Do Can I Get A Witness Can You Jerk Like Me Money (That's What I Want) The previous owner obviously liked the LP and played it a lot as it is not in perfect condition. There are some scratches on the vinyl and the sleeve has got some creasing at the opening. It plays with some slight clicks here and there but nothing serious, especially not if you're gonna use this to DJ with. Great instrumentals to loads of Motown classics. Mint-ish copies sell for £125-£150-ish when they turn up. My copy is up for sale for £75 including shipping. PayPal payment only. Contact me on fonzeus@telia.com if you're interested. Thanks for looking!

Craig Moerer has got 18 copies of this on his site for $20 each. That's at least $10 more than what it actually "should" cost considering how easy it is to find in the US. Here's the link to Craig's page with Geater Davis 45s: https://www.recordsbymail.com/artistPage.ph...rtistLast=DAVIS

I don't know the story behind it... but it seems to be rare... Manship is selling a copy on his site for £200. I also really like the Chips Moman produced version by The Dynamics on Cotillion.

Here's an RA of Blues Bag Ltd.

The more uptempo version by The Royal Jacks on the Big 5 label is also nice. Blues Bag Ltd also recorded a dull version on Plumm. Listen to the Royal Jacks here:

Great one Chalky! I'd go for: Dan Penn - I Need Some One - MGM Absolutely love it!

Hope you like it when it arrives. I think it's a fantastic piece of music. If you don't like it, let me know and I'll take them off your hands as I've got friends who needs copies of that Blue Bull 45. Really looking forward to your tape!
-
That's really nice of you. I'll PM you my address. Yes, I'm a big fan of gritty, dirgey r&b and I know the Little Joe Hinton track very well... a bit of an understatement perhaps... as it's been one of my top 10 wants for a couple of years now! Anyone got a spare? Have you heard "I'm A Loser" by Blue Bull on UNI (amazingly!)? Damn nice uptempo r&b shuffler.
-
Sounds interesting. I'm always into hearing new tunes, but I'm in Sweden and can't easily get to those places. So I'll probably never hear it.
-
Sound clip please.

It DID get a US 45 release. Here's the info: Mel & Tim "Forever & A Day" b/w "That's The Way I Want To Live My Life" STAX 0224 1974

Not "soul" according to most I guess... but anyway... I've heavily disliked "Oh How Happy" by Shades Of Blue on IMPACT for a long, long time. Then the penny dropped about 6 months ago. Absolutely love that tune now and it moves me to tears every now and then when I play it. Does anyone know if it came out on vinyl as well as styrene? Seeing some vintage video clips of them performing it on a local Detroit TV show a while back was awesome.
-
Didn't mean to offend you. It's just that stuff like this sometimes gets taken as gospel.
-
When did Ben & Spence on Bell suddenly turn "shit rare".

Are you on about "Tell Me Why (Can't We Be Friends)"? Sorry, haven't got a copy of the 45, but here's an MP3. Don't know if it's of any help to you. Check the following out for a label scan and some info: https://www.soulmusiccollector.com/four_bel...be_friends.html Here's some general info from https://www.allmusic.com about the group: Four Below Zero, a New York-based quartet consisting of Dornell Chavous, Moses McNeil, Cleveland Dickerson, and Harry Watson, had grandiose dreams of stardom that went unfulfilled. Armed with song, they caught the interest of Patrick Adams and signed with the producer/writer/arranger's P&P label in 1974; the song, "Tell Me Why (We Can't Be Friends)" made some noise in New York but never made a whimper outside the city. A second P&P single, "My Baby's Got E.S.P.," written by Adams, John Cooksey, Eugene Lemon, and Fay Hauser, dropped in 1976 and did better locally. This enabled Adams to license it with Roulette Records for mass distribution that unfortunately failed to amass much of anything other than providing some cash for uniforms and a few doodads. Popular with collectors, you can find it on some select Northern soul compilations. Nothing else by Four Below Zero connected and they soon disbanded. McNeil delved into songwriting, albeit unsuccessfully. Fay Hauser, one of the writers of "ESP," recorded solo before embarking on a successful acting career.

Were those four first ones really released on Instant? Only know about this one: 1972 - INSTANT 3317 - Brothers Two - How To Make Love / Come & Make Me ...but it doesn't match your flipside.

No, not as far as I know and I've never seen it mentioned in any discographies. Great track. The fabulous dancer "Waiting On You" from the same album is sadly also LP-only. What the hell were they thinking not releasing such smashing tunes as singles!?

What You Playing That You've Never Span Before?
Sebastian replied to mischief's topic in All About the SOUL
It was released on a 45 on the Etiquette label back in 1965. It's the flipside to "Shot Down" which is the side I personally would be buying it for. Not that "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" is a bad tune, it's just that "Shot Down" is one of the meanest, most distorted and blasting 60s tunes ever recorded.
