P.J./Patti Jerome is not Patti Jo. They sound nothing like each other, and Patti Jo apparently was some kind of "prodigy" and recorded those 1972/1973 Wand and Scepter sides with Curtis Mayfield at the age of 16. Patti Jerome recorded (to my knowledge) as far back as the mid-50s so can't possibly be the same person.

The Radiants original hit version is without a doubt my fave. Proper mid-tempo, characteristic Chicago soul. In my opinion, The Tempests take on it is too messy and the Jimmy James has got annoying girl backing vocals. Loads of versions of "Ain't No Big Thing" out there and apparently a very influential track. As far as a Tempests Top-3, here goes: 1: Can't Get You Out Of My Mind 2: What You Gonna Do 3: I Don't Want To Lose Her Top group!

According to the "LA's Silver Soul" comp on Kent... the group was also known as The Vines (on Sutter) and Ike & The Vines. They were three male and two female singers. The main songwriter was known as Saint Coombs and also sang background. There is no picture of them in the booklet. Not a garage rock outfit in any case though. Really like the Everly Brothers sound-a-like vocal harmonies on "How Does It Grab You".

I have a copy of the Charlie Rich LP on Hi UK (released 1988 and long out of print) which includes his brilliant and unissued "Don't Tear Me Down" (included on the Kent CD "Northern Soul's Classiest Rarities"). Indeed, a copy sold two days earlier on eBay for £37 or so. I sold a M- UK copy some months back for $85. It's a solid £30-£45 record on its UK issue.

Mindblowing! Not for a northern soul dancefloor perhaps, but seriously one-of-its-kind funky psychedelic r&b type stuff.

Yes, I think it's fantastic and sounds quite a lot like the unissued version of "Love Is Allright" by Jesse James (not surprising considering its writer credits). The flipside, "Everybody Is Weak For Somebody", is even better IMO and a fantastic piece of deep soul. Must say that over the years I've seen lots and lots and lots and LOTS more Atlantic copies of "My Love Is Getting Stronger" than "Your Love Is All I Need".

Great double-sider. Don't forget the uptempo funky r&b flip, "What Can You Do".
