Seriously hypnotic tune and gets in your head very easily. Sounds like a bunch of people having a party who suddenly decided to go out in the garage and cut a disco record live to 2-track. I love it! Here it is together with its original heavy metal-looking sleeve:

I really like that Jordan Bros. on Golden Chariot. I have it sorted amongst my sunshine pop 45s though... The Volcanos "You're Number One" scan above is the second issue/bootleg. Top tune in any case!

Didn't know that it existed on Blue Candle. I always thought it being released on Soul City was a bit strange. Superb tune! Here's the Soul City release:

This is in my opinion a differrent thing. The O.V. Wright and Buddy Lamp versions (or the Solomon Burke for that matter) of this are clearly not the same recordings and that O.V. Wright version has got some seriously annoying backing vocals (to my ears). As you can see on my avatar, it's pretty clear which version i prefer... "Sock Some Love Power To Me" by Lee Rogers which utilises the same backing as Buddy Lamp is very nice as well.

Yes, it is. It is the EXACT same recording. The mixing and mastering is however different and the WFB release is in stereo, not mono, and as a result of this the Breakthrough release has got much more punch and does indeed sound crisper and "better". But it is the same recording, with Buddy Connor/Conner on vocals on both. The actual "a-side" on the WFB 45 is by the sounds of it recorded by an entirely different group.

"Check It Baby" is indeed a nice stomper, but I find it a bit surprising that the flipside on this, "Take My Love", hasn't taken off yet or indeed had ANY attention at all. It's a superb mid-tempo dancer with superb vocals and also available on the cheaper same-sided white demo copies so shouldn't be too hard to pick up.

Keep your eyes peeled on eBay. It's sold for £40-£50 every time it's been up there. UK Sellers indeed usually charge £50, £75 or £100 on lists, but most records go cheaper on eBay than "dealer prices".

I like that one as well. Very hippie-psych-rock-rare-groove-soul and a bit strange. I've got the LP on both green/black Dash design and on TK Holland. Did this track ever slip out on a 45 in some country?
