Are you sure that the King, Event, Dolphin and Mainstream 45s were all recorded by the same group?
-
Off the top of my head... how about: New Orleans sounds PRELUDE label Early 80s CAPITOL releases Leroy Burgess related tunes etc. etc. etc.
-
I've never seen a #406 and I suspect that it doesn't exist. I've had three different copies of this 45, two demos and one issue and all of them have been Broadway 503. Only one of the demos plays the "Hold Back The Tears" track. One demo and one issue plays the proper "One More Try" and it's clearly sung by an entirely different singer. I'll post up a soundclip below. The b-side is the same on all issues. Some scans below. This is the "Hold Back The Tears" mispress demo: Correct "One More Try" demo: Correct "One More Try" issue:

It's a seriously superb tune. I've done quite some digging and searching and have checked out loads of tunes called "Hold Back The Tears" but as far as I know, that tune hasn't turned up on vinyl anywhere else apart from the mispressed Tommy Andre 45. Sounds a bit like Don Gardner singing to me.

** Recording On Your Telephone / Interviews **
Sebastian replied to Mal C's topic in All About the SOUL
I've used a similar product to that in the past. Works great. Just plug it in to your soundcard on your computer and record as a WAV file or plug it into a tape recorder. Easier to rewind/fast-forward in a computer file though. -

Yes... but if you think about the people born in say... 1992, they are 15 years old now and the absolute majority of these people have NEVER EVER owned a purchased "official" record and have probably never even cared about owning one either. They've had music around them during their teen years blasting from computers, portable MP3-players, mobile-phones etc. This has been the "normal" way to consume music. So why go to the trouble and buy music on a form of media (CD) which you then have to dump into your computer in order to be able to play in your MP3-player? It's better to cut out the "middle man" and download immediately. There will always be people, like your son and his mates, who have a special interest and collects vinyl/CDs/etc. but when it comes to the majority of people, records will have little or no relevance to future generations. Once agan, this concerns the MAJORITY of people, not people on a specific scene which has a tradition of collecting actual records. I'm personally convinced that in the long run this is a good thing and I welcome endless choice and availability. Saying that... I will most likely be collecting and buying records as long as I live...

It's on his second LP "Spaced". Sorry don't have a copy for sale.
-
It's LP-only. Great tune!
-
You're damn right about that!
-
The Minit recording is absolutely superb. The one on Keyman is one of my pet-hate soul tunes, I simply can't stand it.
-
Shoud be about £40-£60. Got myself a copy for $40 not long ago, but that was a cheap one.
-
I absolutely love this! Has got both Edgar and Johnny Winter playing on it as well, those guys sure were productive during these years.

If We Were Still Together - Jimmy Bo Horne - Alston
Sebastian replied to Russ Vickers's topic in Record Wants
There are copies all over the place, Manship has got it at £15, Craig Moerer at $20, and here's a nice buy-it-now eBay copy at $9.99: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=250100987471 -
And a very, very fine CD it indeed is. I wasn't knocking it, was just a bit surprised (as I suppose you was!) about the inclusion of the fast version. That sure is sad. Think we've sold 20 copies or so in the store I work in here in Sweden. Most of them to people who otherwise buy almost exclusively "traditional" soul stuff. Canada would make sense. But where does the Witches & The Warlock 45 fit in with the Byron Lee connection? With the Shout 45 being Rick Hall produced and the Capitol one having Robert Banks involvement, the tunes like "I Gotta Get There", "Inspired To Love You", "I Can't Stop" etc. must've come out on US labels prior to having a jamaican releases don't you think? Will keep a look-out for a jamaican issue of "Can't Believe You're Gone".
-
So... is BRA a jamaican or US label? If it's a US label... what was the original jamaican label for "I Can't Believe You're Gone"?
-
I think we're now talking about both... "I Can't Believe That You're Gone" (on BRA) and "I Won't Let You Go" (on Kentone) are different tunes.
-
...and also... there are two different versions of "I Won't Let You Go". Just speculating here, but perhaps one of them is on BRA and the slightly slower (and in my opinion much better) one on Kentone? Tony... help us out!
-
Yes, that sure is a nice flipside. But wouldn't mind to have "Soon You'll Be Gone" on BRA as the flipside on that one is "Can't Believe You're Gone". Wasn't BRA a jamaican label? Have always thought that it for example was the jamaican release for Witches & The Warlocks "Behind Locked Doors". But... I honestly don't know...
-
Utterly superb tune! Just out of interest, what's the US label for this? Have got it on a nice picture sleeved United Artists Holland release myself. Sorry, not for sale.
-
As far as US releases goes, I've seen "Keep My Woman Home" on (and I also think this is the order of release): Atlas white demo Atlas blue issue Atlas multi-coloured issue Atteru white demo Atteru issue Unity issue What's the deal with the blue Atlas copies with poor sound quality, are these bootlegs? Sounds muffled as hell! Here's a scan of the Unity release (which says "formerly on Atas [sic!] Records" on the label so obviously a reissue of some sort): Atlas multi-coloured issue: Atteru white demo: Atteru issue:

Jimmy Bo is first class Florida soul, Bobby Powell is r&b-ish, Johnny Copeland is deepest of the deep. I'll throw up sound clips in a minute.
