Bobby Long & The Dealers - I Gotta Have Love Too
Sebastian replied to Steve L's topic in Look At Your Box
A truly superb tune. Fairly well known in my experience though. -
But he wrote 33 1/2 (and not 33 1/3, which is correct).

Recently found an oddly picture sleeved copy of Lou Johnson's "Magic Potion" on swedish(!) Bigtop! Have never EVER seen this before! Check it out:

Two Set Sale 45s With Sound Clips And Label Scans
Sebastian replied to Sebastian's topic in Record Sales
A gentle BUMP for these two records in case you missed them yesterday evening. -
Hello. Two set sale 45s up for grabs here. PM me or e-mail to: sebastian [at] shingaling [dot] com Airmail shipping is included in the prices. Payment via PayPal. JACKIE SHANE - Stand Up Straight And Tall - MODERN (w/d) - EX+ - £300 SOLD! "Stand Up Straight And Tall" was pretty much unknown up until Ady Croasdell included it on the first "New Breed R&B" CD. Extremely few copies have turned up since then and demand for it is high. Here you have it on a nice white demo copy in stunning EX+ condition (apart from the writing on the "You Are My Sunshine" label). The b-side is decent as well. An awfully rare 45. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO "Stand Up Straight And Tall" CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO "You Are My Sunshine" LEE SHOT WILLIAMS - It Ain't Me No More - MT - M- - £50 The original and rare MT label release for the updated version of this classy dancer. The flipside is intrumental. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO "It Ain't Me No More"
-
The flipside is great as well.

Thanks for the info, but would prefer an original jamaican copy or the UK Duke issue. Anyone got a copy for sale? That Boris Gardiner track is a real fave of mine and I'd like to track down the 45 and knowing the label would make it easier, so if it's not too much trouble for you Tony... I'd really appreciate it!
-
SUPERB! Thanks for the info, Tony! Do you perhaps also know the original Jamaican or UK label release for Boris Gardiner's "I'm Alone"?
-
Might as well ask this while I've got both of you here... I've wanted to find out one thing for years and this talk about Dave Barker got me thinking about it again... I've got a tune on an old tape credited to Dave Barker and the title is "I Got To Get Away", it consists of him DJing over a rather fine tune. It's the tune in the background I want to find out what it is, the lyrics to the tune in the background starts off with "there's a man that lives next door, in my neighbourhood, in my neighbourhood, he get's me down". It's probably some well known tune, but my rocksteady knowledge isn't what it could be so... If anyone of you could help me out here I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
-
Realised just a couple of months ago that Jim (Jimmy) Webb's original version on Epic is decent as well. Has got more of a rough edge compared to Shane Martin.
-
Thanks for the comments everyone! I'm glad you enjoy the sounds. Will try to post up some label scans for these mixes soon if I find the time to do it.

Dennis Linde-penned Tunes Recorded By Soul Artists
Sebastian replied to Sebastian's topic in Look At Your Box
Yes, Arthur did record "Burning Love" prior to Elvis, and there's a nice version of Linde's "Call Me Honey" on that LP as well. I know that Dennis was a prolific country songwriter and has written hundreds of songs, but I'm primarily interested in his 60s and early to mid 70s material that was recorded by soul artists. Obrey Wilson recorded his "X Marks The Spot" on Mercury for example. Would be great to have his BMI entry sorted by "date of registration". Tony, it would be really nice if you could send me a list of titles in case you have one. Does Ace own the rights to any Linde-penned songs recorded by artists other than Linde himself? I assume you can search the Ace files by songwriter? Any info would be great! Thanks in advance. -
