  1. Yes, the concept of this thread seems to confuse quite a few... "I Wanna Holler" is a truly monumental track in my opinion and I was extremely glad when I realised that it was issued on a legitimate 45.
  2. How about "I Wanna Holler (But The Town's Too Small)" by Gary U.S. Bonds? Only ever issued as the flipside on the 80s (or even 90s) Legrand "golden oldies" reissue of "New Orleans". Fantastic over-the-top kinda tune!
  3. Has anyone of you got a copy of Badder Than Evil - "Hot Wheels" - BUDDAH for sale? Please, PM me if so. Thanks in advance.
  4. I agree, it's a superb CD. Great liner notes as well (and as ususal from Kent/Ace). I'd also like to recommend the "Can't Be Satisfied - The XL And Sounds Of Memphis Story" CD which was released in the same batch. And the fabulous Main Ingredient "Singles 1967-1975" CD compiled by our very own Tony Rounce! Finally a decent compilation with The Main Ingredient (and it contains a couple of early Insiders tracks as well). And also, for those of you who are into that kind of stuff... the absolutely WONDERFUL "Gerry Goffin and Carole King Song Collection 1961-1967" CD which also was released very recently. These have all been released (we're selling them from the record store I work in anyway...) and should be available from pretty much everywhere. www.amazon.co.uk definitely have them.
  5. For those of you who might've missed the above post over the weekend: there's now about three days left on these auctions.

  7. Eleventh Commandment - Then I Reach Satisfaction - FAST TRACK Label:FAST TRACK
  8. I totally agree, that George Perkins 45 is superb. I'd like to recommend "Then I Reach Satisfaction" by Eleventh Commandment on the FAST TRACK label. I like it a lot, it doesn't seem to be particularly well known and it's still cheap and easy to find copies of. Soundclip to follow.

  10. I personally think this is a decent tune, but very 80s sounding and probably too 80s for a lot of people. Used to go for $50-ish, but several US dealers seems to have quantity of this so has dropped to about $20-$30 if eBay prices are anything to go by. She issued a rare LP on the Prince label as well: Have been told that she's a local Chicago cable TV-show host these days.
  11. Do you have that list of 10000+ tunes that are better than "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". I would really, really like to see it (and hear them).

  13. Don't know if this is of much help as these pictures are so small, but here are scans of an original copy:
  14. Yes, that's correct. But as Soulmac wrote, it is also available on UK 7" and 12". Here's the 7":
  15. The UK Island 45 being credited to Phillip James is a good tip. The BRA discography is a mess though, and higher release number doesn't necesarily have to mean that it's a later release in this particular case. But I agree with you and will most likely keep the SOUL label release. Here's an updated BRA discography: BRA 001 - Lloyd & Glen - Minnie Skirts & Go Go Boots / A Good Man BRA 201 - Phillip James - Wide Awake In A Dream / ? BRA 502 - Blues Busters with Byron Lee - How Sweet It Is / I Had A Dream Last Night BRA 503 - Blues Busters - Wide Awake In A Dream / My Girl BRA 503 - Byron Lee & The Dragonaires - Your No Good / Behold BRA 506 - Blue Busters - Can't Believe You're Gone / Soon You'll Be Gone BRA 602 - Blues Busters - Happy Man / My Girl BRA 602 - Blues Busters - Wide Awake In A Dream / Wings Of A Dove BRA 901 - Byron Lee & The Dragonaires - the record / Hang On Sloopy BRA 904 - L. Perkins - Sandra / No Love No Money BRA 1101 - Witches And The Warlock - Behind Locked Doors (vocal) / (instrumental) BRA 2011 - Ken Boothe - I Don't Want To See You Cry / ? BRA 201? - Blues Busters - I Won't Let You Go / Love Me Forever
  16. Released on RIM. Manship has got a M- copy on his site for £100. I sold mine for £50 a couple of years ago. Didn't exactly fly out of here at that price either. Can't imagine that there is too much demand for it. Quite a rare record though.
  17. From earlier I have "Wide Awake In A Dream" on the Soul label credited to Phillip James (The Blues Busters), but I recently picked up a copy on the BRA label (#602) credited to The Blues Busters. I know that it also exists credited to Phillip James on BRA (#201), but I don't personally have that one. I'm trying to decide on which copy to sell and which to keep, so does anyone know which was the first issue for this tune? It's also strange that there is another Blues Busters 45 issued as BRA 602 as well, "Happy Man" b/w "My Girl".
  18. That's not correct, they are definitely different recordings. Compare the drum intro on "Funky Eight Corners" and "Ton Of Dynamite", they are different. The guitar part during the "chorus" is also different, it's slightly disharmonic on "Funky Eight Corners" but that's not the case on "Ton Of Dynamite". The same goes for the drums on the chorus - straight on "TOD" and syncopated on "FEC".
  19. This is a much harder 45 than the £30 guide book price suggests. Indeed, it usuall sells for around that price, but it's still pretty unknown and copies (especially in decent condition) are hard to locate. As DelTee mentioned, it was issued on both Cab and Camille (both labels had the same owner), but the Camille copies has got poor/muffled sound quality so go for a Cab copy if you're buying!
  20. Are you sure that you're not thinking about their OTHER superb 45 on Hep Me entitled "Give Me Your Love"? Some of you seems to be mixing up "Running Back To You" with "Give Me Your Love". "Running Back To You" has hardly ever come up for sale during the past 2-3 years and there have been less than a handful of copies on eBay in that time.
  21. It's a gritty gospel track, and judging from other posts on this forum, that might not be everyone's cup of tea (or suitable for "northern soul" plays), but it's got some amazingly gritty lead vocals and I personally would gladly pay a fiver for it just to have that guy scream at me in my living room.
  22. 23. I'm sad to hear about Ganche's problems, but Brian is in my experience an extremely honest dealer. I have ordered from him probably 30 times over the past couple of years and the records have always arrived within a week (he's in the US, I'm in Sweden). A very accurate record grader as well.
  24. "Cool" is a Major Bill Smith "special"... He released it at least 25 times as a "filler b-side" on his labels (Charay, Soft, LeCam etc.) when he didn't want to fork out more money on his artists. The same tune was also issued numerous times as "Patsy" and "Alpine Winter". "Kiss And Run" is written by Bobby Skel (Bobby Skelton). There are also versions recorded by Bruce Channel on Soft, J. Frank Wilson on Josie and by Bobby Skel himself on Soft. I haven't heard the Soul Of Georgia version, but it wouldn't surprise me if they all utilise the same backing track (another MBS "special"...). Any chance of a sound clip of the 45 on Black Sheep? More info about Bobby Skel here: https://www.geocities.com/spikeopath/bobbyskel.htm Nowadays Bobby Skel runs the Rinky-Tinks Sandwich Shop & Ice Cream Parlor in Granbury, Texas.
