A rule of thumb is that: Styrene records have their labels glued on to them and you can peel them off if you want to. This is true for all styrene 45s except the Amy/Mala/Bell(-distributed) 45s which have their labels painted onto the wax. Vinyl records have their labels moulded into the wax and you can't peel them off.

"Birth Of A Playboy" was officially issued on three different labels in the following order: 1) Lee John 2) Maple 3) Canyon The LEE JOHN label 45 was released as by Crown Four, it utilises the exact same recording as on the Maple and Canyon releases but has got a more "thin" sound. It also has got a different uptempo straight northern soul flipside.

Thanks for the comments! I'm really glad you enjoy our mixes.

Chalky is partly right. It seems like all issue copies does indeed play Tony Galla's "In Love", BUT the white demo copies play the correct Southbound Freeway tunes. They are both psych/folk type of tunes. I'll post a clip of the correct "Revelations" below. Here is some more info about Southbound Freeway which I found on the https://www.beatbehindthedykes.com/ site: The Southbound Freeway were a band from Detroit, Michigan. Their debut 45 (Swan 4272) from November 1966 goes for big bucks amongst Northern Soul collectors! Why is it here? Well, black label copies actually play Tony Galla's highly collectable "In Love" (released as Swan 4275). Craig Moerer sold such a mispress on eBay with "Buy It Now" for $750.00. The demo version of #4272 that actually has The Southbound Freeway into it's grooves is regarded as shite by the soul connoisseurs. Not by me! At least not the flipside. "Crazy Shadows" is horrible indeed, but "Revelations" is a fab slightlydelic folkrocker! Their second 45 "Psychedelic Used Car Lot Blues" from '67 was released on several labels (Tera Shirma, Red Rooster, Roulette) and can be checked out on the "Michigan Nuggets" compilation.

Yes, I foolishly sold my only copy of this 45 about a year ago (and regret it). Superb sweet soul ballad 45. I got $162.50 for my copy (which was good though), have seen it around cheaper.

The Peanut Gallery 45 is folk-ish garage rock/pop. Have a listen here: https://helium.lunarpages.com/~funky4/sound...anutgallery.mp3

Wow! Huge, HUGE thanks!!!

A very hard repro to spot indeed. There are two radically different versions issued of this track which were released with only a couple of weeks apart. The first gritty "regional" version was withdrawn and replaced with a slightly cleaner "national" release version. If anyone would like to trade the regional issue for the national one, let me know.

King Pins - Two Hearts/ I Won't Have It - Federal 12517
Sebastian replied to macca's topic in Look At Your Box
You shouldn't have to pay more than £10-£15 for a mint copy. There's a buy-it-now copy for $10 right now on eBay and Craig Moerer has got 11 copies in stock at $25 each. -

Billy Watkins - Love Line, Unreleased Or Not?
Sebastian replied to Tommaso's topic in Look At Your Box
Billy Watkins "I'm Tired" was issued on three labels - Robell, Chartmaker and Jerhart. The version which Ady included on a recent Kent compilation as "unissued" is, however, unissued because it's got a 10-15 second saxophone break which has been edited out on the 45 releases. Apart from that, the "unissued version" and the 45 releases are the exact same recordings. I love this tune. Very frantic! Perhaps a bit hard to dance to, but just throw yourself across the livingroom floor, grab an imaginary microphone, do your best Jackie Wilson impersonation and that should take care of it. -
This is superb! Goes very well together with Bileo's "You Can Win" tempo-wise. It still seems to be played covered-up on the current underground disco scene as First Family "That's Love" - it was even released on the "Disco Demands Part Three" compilation under this name.
-
As far as I know, the label is glued onto the record prior to the large hole being punched out.
-
Probably to be able to fit more minutes of music onto one side.
-
This is the craziest one I've got (and the only solid-centre copy of this title that I've ever seen): It's an original stamped US copy that haven't had its centre pushed out.

While on the topic of this group, has anyone of you got a copy of the following for sale? Soul Bros. Inc. - Hot Pants / Girl in the Hot Pants - SBI 1003 Please, PM me if so. Thanks in advance.

Northern Soul - What Are The Worst Mixes?
Sebastian replied to Ian Dewhirst's topic in All About the SOUL
Precisions "I Wanna Tell My Baby" on D-TOWN. Superb tune, but the mixing/mastering leaves a lot to be desired. -
Anyone Know Anything About This Off Anglos List?
Sebastian replied to Pete S's topic in Look At Your Box
The record you won is not the record on Anglo Americans list. Allison and Calvin Turner released at least three 45s on the LuLu label. I haven't heard the "Everytime I'm Near You" track. -
