  4. If you mean "Blues In The Night" then the most desirable release of it is probably the french Atlantic 45. It's otherwise a US LP-only track but was also issued on a french Stax 4-track EP which has got lower volume than the 2-track 45. The Atlantic 45 usually goes for about £150, but has sold for £250+. The Stax EP usually goes for £75-£100.
  5. Superb! Has anyone got scans of his 702 and 801 releases as well?
  6. I found a reference to a John Lemon Quintet 45 on FLODAVIEUR in an old sales list from Nancy Yahiro as well, but it was not listed with a catalogue number (can it be 805?). I've included it below. FLODAVIEUR 1301 - Preston Epps - Rockin' In The Congo / ? FLODAVIEUR 702 - Billy Larkins - That's A Lie / Looking On FLODAVIEUR 801 - Billy Larkins - Play It Cool / But I Wonder FLODAVIEUR ? - John Lemon Quintet - Doing The Doo / It's All Right FLODAVIEUR ? - Ruben Wilson - ? / ? What's up with the Billy Larkins 45s? Are the numbers right?
  7. Inconquerables - For Your Love / Wait For Me - FLODAVIEUR 803 A copy sold on eBay back in January 2005 for $671, but as it's so long ago that really doesn't mean anything I guess.

  9. Just for fun, it would be great if you could list 20 or so titles from your record collection that doesn't throw up any kind of search result. I'm not saying that you can download soundclips of everything on the net, but in my experience the 45s that are truly unknown and un-googleable are extremely few and far between.

  12. It's very obscure and not much seems to be known. Issued on a label called DOI'T BOX. "Magic Lady" is co-written by "R. Howell" and "D. Wilkinson". I suspect that one of those guys might be Reuben Howell, but this title is not mentioned in his BMI file. I sold a copy of this 7" about two weeks ago on eBay for $305 and unless copies starts to turn up, that was probably quite cheap.
  13. About 2 days left on these auctions now.
  14. It's still expensive but not especially difficult to find. A quick look at Popsike shows 5 copies sold on eBay during the past year or so and 3 of them were described as being high grade copies. Those 5 are certainly not the only copies that were sold on eBay (or elsewhere) during that year. I think it's safe to assume that at least one copy every two months is turning up these days. Some recent prices: 2007-10-30 - $761 - VG 2007-10-14 - $1591 - M- 2007-09-12 - $610 - VG (no clicks, no noise, plays great) 2007-08-15 - £610 - (Manship auction) 2007-03-01 - $676 - VG+ 2006-09-17 - $860 - M-

  16. I had no idea what it was, but heard that they sang "I Can't Give You Up" in the soundclip on the eBay auction so went ahead and googled: "I Can't Give You Up" soul funk And the very FIRST search result turned up what this tune actually is (gotta love Google!). It's apparently "I Can't Give You Up" by Smoove featuring John Turrell. Released in late 2007. More info here: https://www.myspace.com/smooveacidjazz
  17. "Darlin'", with its proper vocals, and much of the "Wild Honey" LP is heavily soul/r&b influenced and Beach Boys was going through their post-Smile/Pet Sounds back-to-the-roots phase when they recorded it (some of their stuff from this period is extremely stripped down, primitive party stuff, "How She Boogalooed It", a cover of Stevie's "I Was Made To Love Her" etc.). I've never really thought about "Darlin'" in the context of being an instrumental northern soul stomper... and I've never checked out the "Stack O' Tracks" album... but I bet it works fine because it's a lovely stomping tune. I play the vocal take every now and then when I DJ at pop clubs etc.
  18. You're probably right about not everyone being aware of Soul Source, or having time to read every thread on it... But if you can access eBay, you can also access the net's biggest and most popular search engine Google. If someone was to use Google to research how to tell the difference between an original and a bootleg copy of this particular record and put the following into the search field: pages heartaches & pain ...then they would get the following as the very first search result: /SUNSTRU...HES-t63310.html
  19. In my experience, bonafide originals of this 45 are extremely hard to track down. In fact, it practically never turns up for sale. The ratio is probably less than one copy per year (at least out in the "open"). More info, better and more detailed scans, soundclips etc. would most likely have pushed this auction to a much higher price.
  20. As Cunnie mentions above, the scan is probably not from the copy for sale and indeed it looks exactly like the scan of my old bootleg copy which I sold on eBay a couple of months ago! The seller is a well known contributor to this (and other) forums and in the questions box at the bottom he describes the matrix number as being "Superdisc TBS-1001-A" which is correct for an original copy. The matrix markings on the a-side of the bootleg has got "TBS 1001 A - 196 SUPERDISC". If it indeed is an original copy, and I suspect that it is, then $671 (about £335) is the bargain of the month! A terribly hard to find 7" on original.
  21. It's rare, but there must have been at least 10 copies on eBay during the past year. I sold a M- vinyl copy for $456 about 2 weeks ago on eBay and I'm very satisfied with that price.
  22. Nice to see that Transfer 45 getting some well deserved attention. "Nothing" is a superb storming dancer and as Steve hinted at earlier the ballad b-side is nice as well.
  23. Only about 2-3 hours left on these auctions now. Thanks for looking! :-)
  24. It's a good tune (but far, far from their best though!) and I luckily don't think it sounds anything like The Inmates.
  25. My copy reads "...Life" as well. I bought it here on SoulSource and just thought that the seller had written the title wrong in the sales list, but sure enough when it arrived it actually read "Gonna Find A True Life" on the label! Here's a scan of my copy:
