Record Mountain Growing By The Day
Ady Pountain replied to Mark Bicknell's topic in Look At Your Box
"Oh by the way Ady I've still got the Ascots and Bobby Kline I bought off you when we were still in black and white £18.00 each I seem to remember lol" Great example of keen pricing Mark! Was it you that turned down the Eddie Parker for £85? If I remember rightly it was about 25 years ago! Cheers, Ady -
Record Mountain Growing By The Day
Ady Pountain replied to Mark Bicknell's topic in Look At Your Box
One element is people looking for something new / different, not just the same old, same old. If something comes up for sale on E Bay, JM or anywhere else that is rare / different / new it usually fetches good money, whether it be Funk, Modern, Northern, or definitely now, Boogie. If you look as this from a 'selling records' point of view, the losers are NS records in the £50 - £300 bracket, or maybe even higher than that. If people have to sell records for financial reasons, that is unfortunate and to be expected. But , if your trying to sell records for a profit, then it tends to be being able to offer something out of the ordinary, or even maybe at the right price. One point to remember is how much you paid for what you are selling. I have many friends who sell records for a living and if they have the stock, usually sourced from trips to the US, they are doing ok. I only dabble, but have still managed to sell recently a Hip Hop LP for $700, a UK Contempo 45 for $107 and 2 x Motown Promos for $60 each, as an example. I've still got the Larry Davis on Duke, Bobby Jason, Bobby Sheen's, Velvet Satins etc, etc. So maybe it's not a Mountain of Records, but a Mountain of the Wrong Records. Just my thoughts, Cheers, Ady. -
Very sad news and my condolences go to his family and many friends. As a stall holder at his Stoke Record Fairs in the 70's, myself and many others had a great time with Chris. HBS was was the first Soul Fanzine I remember. R.I.P., Ady
-
Very sad news. They are, to me, without doubt the greatest Soul vocal group. The interplay and force of their voices is phenomenal. Thanks to Larry for the You Tube clip, which showed what great people they are. Feelin old and sad. R.I.P. Johnnie.

History is all about dates. I first heard this in NC in 1991 courtsey of a house guest on an acetate sourced in Philly. The acetate was uncredited as far as I remember but the title was " I Wish You A World Of Happiness ". Both of us remarked Oh! a vocal to Bird Walkin' ! Cheers, Ady
-
My apologies Steve as this is not helping your search but the other version by Willie Hatcher on Columbia is also great (flip of "Good Things Come To Those Who Wait"), possibly even better, same backing, clearer vocal, offski, Ady

For Northern Soul I enjoyed David Nowell's 'Too Darn Soulful' Robson Books from 1999. For a 'Soul' book Peter Guralnick's 'Sweet Soul Music' is a must, Virgin Books from 1986. If you're a Record Collector then 'Vinyl Junkies - Adventures In Record Collecting' by Brett Milano US Only Publisher is St. Martin's Griffin is a great read. I am currently reading 'House On Fire - The Rise And Fall Of Philidelphia Soul' by John A. Jackson, Oxford University Press US, and it is a great informative read full of great insights and well written, Cheers, Ady

Gordy, Luther King's, Wonder And Robinson Out For Jackson
Ady Pountain replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
Best quote of the night was Stevie Wonder saying "this is a day I didn't expect to see" ! I would never ask anyone to expose a young child to appearing on Global Television to say goodbye to her Father on the day he had his funeral. Unforgivable. Sharpton was a joke. Lionel Ritchie sang a Gospel Song and got it spot on. There are some uncanny similarities between Micheal Jackson's death and Elvis Presley's. If you read Guarlnick's 2 brilliant books on Elvis it comes down to a 'rogue' Doctor over administering prescription drugs. I spent my working life in Pharmacueticals (see I can even spell it!) and mixing the wrong drugs is very very dangerous. As to the hype and Pete's original post well this is now. Best thing is ignore it as the media will always take fame over importance. I heard he's coming back as a shopping bag....white, plastic and a danger to children. As for him paving the way for Obama,oh please! Cheers, Ady -
Hi, If you still have Little Rena Scott, Lee Eldred and Mary Davis I'll take them. Please Pm me, Thanks, Ady

I've lived in North Carolina twice in the early 90's and early 00's, plus I've visited nearly every year for decades. If you want to compare the Northern Scene and the Beach Music Scene then the biggest similarities are:- - It's all about the tempo / beat, that's why records from different sources were popular on both scenes. - They bootleg everything! - They make 'tailor made' tracks. - The majority of people are over 50. - There are lots of record collectors on both scenes. - They are both very passionate about their music. It's called Beach Music because it started on the (Myrtle) beach on the NC coastline. Nowadays it's all CDs. Having been around both scenes I think they are very similar, Cheers, Ady

Ted Massey - I Got That Record You Were After
Ady Pountain replied to Pete S's topic in Look At Your Box
Don't worry Ted they are dreamin' already. I suppose we will have to suffer their 3 seasons in the Premiership Autumn, Winter and Spring! Sullivan sets top six, FA Cup target for Birmingham 08.06.09 | tribalfootball.com Birmingham City co-owner David Sullivan has set their targets after returning to the Premiership. "The aim is still to be in the top six or seven and qualify for Europe. We've said, myself, David Gold and Ralph Gold, that we would like to do something that nobody has ever done at Birmingham," Sullivan told the Sunday Mercury. "The highest the club has ever finished is sixth and we would like to finish sixth or higher. We'd also like to win the FA Cup. "Small teams used to win the FA Cup. Now even that and the Carling Cup seems to be the same four or five teams. "The one exception was when Barnsley knocked out Liverpool and Chelsea and Portsmouth beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. "You have to have massive luck in the draw and hope the big teams play each other and knock each other out. "I know the FA Cup is a big important thing to Birmingham City supporters and we've underperformed in it ever since we've been at the club. I'd love to be in the cup final and survive - that would be wonderful." -
Yep, bought it in the US many, many years ago. In fact I never knew it was rare until I played it out and got the "never knew that existed comment", Cheers, Ady

I think they are the same 'take' just the timings are different, LP is 4.35, 45 is 3.30. It's never mentioned but the 45 has 'I Wanna Get Next To You' on the flip which is a great modern / xover track. I'm not making this up I just played them both, Cheers, Ady
