  1. Today I have mostly been playing Dylan's CD. Really liked the Bobby Barnes on Poormans, Ernie K Doe on Island and the Johnny White on Dalle Valle, excellent stuff, thanks Dylan!
  2. I'm with Ian on refosoul. It's easier to google the title and get the refosoul clip directly or through some other source than try to search through the refosoul function on SS. As to loading something not sure I've ever managed it without some moderator instantly posting it is in the wrong place! Disagree with Ian about the SAPS accounting system, just get a new accountant / SAPS admin, not that I work anymore but have done loads of SAPS implementations / upgrades for my sins and come year-end it's a godsend, full year accounts in 5 days. There was a project launched to catalogue all the soul-clips on You Tube but I'm not sure of it's progress. I found it on an excellent site run by a guy in the NW of England. I still think as a regular traveller to the US nothing beats looking and listening for new stuff and being in touch with the many dealers in the UK who still put in the hard yards. It is hard now but can still be worthwhile. The important thing is to be open minded about what you hear / find. If it's good buy it. If it's crap, don't and be happy about what you find. Just a few thoughts, Ady
  3. Just playing Gary's CD. Fantastic selection that flows brilliantly, great stuff, Ady
  4. Hi All, all recorded, burnt, packaged and ready for the eddie tomorrow so you should have them on Friday / Saturday. Except Sam of course, Hi Sam!, as she'll have to wait a while longer. I think Alan is making up Speck&The G.H. Outlaw Gang and the Twenty Dollar Friendship! They sound like a C/U titles dreamt up by Cliff and Val after too many sherbets. Apologies to Eddie if there are too many repeats, Cheers, Ady
  5. I have had contact with one of the band members. They are a US group and has an interesting career including backing Christine Cooper on her Parkway recordings but the guy didn't remember "Heartaches Away My Boy" but did remember "Good Looks (They Don't Count)"!
  6. Thanks Haydn for posting that. I thoroughly enjoyed it, Cheers, Ady

  9. Well, I'm off to Bamberg tomorrow, so that's 2 x All-Nighters and 4 DJ Spots and a Saturday afternoon session and a Sunday wind down. I was at Soul Essence, same story and Lifeline, just an All-Nighter, lightweights. In between I went to a local Soul Night and listened to 100's of Soul Records of every type you can mention. So tomorrow it's a drive to the airport, a 90 minute flight, a 3 hour drive and 3 days of Soul Heaven along with alot of the people mentioned on this thread DJing who aren't worth the breath they breath. They have also had similar journeys to get there, for 2 of them a whole day of train travel. Let's not forget the Spanish Armada, the Soul Germans, the locals and Max and the Aussie Boomerang crowd. Adjourn yer asses! Young Ady.

  17. I appreciate Pete's initial post because it is astonishing what some people ask for records. If they get the price good luck to them but some frankly common records now, always on EBay, lots on Gemm, Discogs etc., not in the past, are priced at what I presume are full book price, regardless of condition. I don't have 1 Price guide on the premises but I know how often I see or find a record and what I paid for any copy I have. I am also becoming more and more wary of buying records on line or on SS as the condition of some of the stuff I receive is way off the mark to say the least. There is a simple Marketing rule that to succeed you must under promise and over deliver. If you do the opposite you will fail! I think it was raised in another post about buying off people you trust and the sooner we get some proper feedback system the better. Everyone can knock the EBay system but at least it is a guage of what you might expect. All we have to do is fix the negative feedback options that EBay use. Please excuse the 'red mist' moments from the discussion, we've all had those, at least I have. As for the EBay lottery, sold a fairly obscure UK item for $83 in December, thought I'd done good, followed by a big up from Scandanavia, not my copy, with a worse soundfile, went for $550! Also the singers other UK only release it far far superior! Go figure! Anybody looked at my 12" list from a couple of hours ago, bargains! It's still fun, Ady

  19. Afternoon all! All these are R&B, Early Motown and the odd doo-wop! Consequently most are 40+ years old! I have use 3 grading scales to keep it easy (for me!). I have played through them all so there are no severe scratches, gouges etc. Some will have crackly starts due to the poor pressing quality. If you want specific details on anything get in touch. The gradings are as follows:- 1 = clean vinyl and labels, no problems. 2 = Minimum VG+ may have minor writing or ring wear on the label and a drill hole. 3 = VG, probably crackles on the intro but the music will overpower once it starts, may have minor writing / ring wear on the label and a drill hole. 20. I'll bump this one as I was talking to Dave about it this afternoon. Dave knows Gordon Keith and as he put it to me "he's in hard times and $100 would mean alot to him". I'm not about to start a Gordon Keith fund but I do think we should back up the principles we (soul fans) often put out on here about artists getting their just rewards. So do we know who puts out tracks on Dragon and are they legit? Ady
  21. Fun thread this one. In the 70s at Record Fairs, when we were bored, John Farrell and I used to play Record Fair cricket with an LP as the bat and 45s as the ball just to wind people up! The looks of horror were brilliant. Pete Wid was the king though. He would take crap completely obscure UK 60s records to places like St Ives all dayers and spend hours winding up people, mainly DJs, that this was the best 60s record he had ever heard. Once it got to final price haggling he'd smash it over his knee saying "that's not enough". And one well known chap from the East Midlands was often seen picking up the pieces, and I'm not joking. I throw records in the bin nearly everyday. Today I threw Hot "Angel En Tus Brazos" on Big Tree in the bin as it wasn't even worthy of recycling! Lars is far from being an idiot, my favourite German Tart yes, but no idiot! Dee Dee Warwick "Foolish Fool" is a brilliant record! Ady
